How to replace the radiator on a Toyota Sequoia and Tundra without removing the protective shroud and without removing the fan.
How difficult is it to remove the fan? Very difficult and you need a special fan clutch holding tool.
This is the radiator I purchased from O'Reilly Auto Parts:
Murray Heat Transfer Radiator
Part #: 8012994
Information about the fan:
A fan clutch is a thermostatic engine cooling fan that can freewheel at low temperatures when cooling is not needed, allowing the engine to warm up faster, relieving unnecessary load on the engine. As temperatures increase, the clutch engages so that the fan is driven by engine power and moves air to cool
Some people use this tool:
SCHLEY PRODUCTS Universal Fan Clutch Wrench SL61600
Specially designed contoured water pump holder is easy to use on vehicles using bolt on water pump pulleys to remove and replace the viscous fan clutch.
No adjusting or fiddling simply, with only one hand, hook on the pulley bolt and hold to remove the fan clutch. Reverse the 61600 to install the fan clutch. Designed for the following applications:
Chrysler, Ford, GM, Land Rover, Mazda with bolted on water pump pulleys.
Ford 4.9L 6 Cylinder F Series pickup trucks '93-'96 and Econo-line vans '92-'96.
Audi 1996 and later (except Audi A6 2.8L)
BMW 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, X & Z series (except the 4.0L & 4.4L V-8 engines).
VW 1998 and later (except Passat 3.0L 1998 and later) with bolted on water pump pulleys.
Mr. Daniel Explains
2020 06 18 proof that you can replace your own radiator.

I have replaced my radiator 3 years ago, same way as you did. All previous videos didn't even consider that option. I was amazed that I saved myself so much time by not removing the fan. I'm glad that you made that video, so others won't have to struggle.

Thanks for your video, I saved over $700 as I was able to do it myself after seeing the video. Can't believe local garages were charging me $1,060, and the dealership said $1,380. Was able to buy it for $275 and install myself.

Glad I came across your video. I changed my radiator this morning. Like most I watched other videos and was prepared to pull the fan. The hose hookup and petcock on the bottom of the radiator needed some persuasion to get by the guard but it’ll go. I changed it by myself in about 2 hours. Thanks for the video and advice.

I just replaced mine on a 2010 Sequoia, but did not see your video. I removed the fan, but kept thinking...do I really need to? This will definitely save people time. Good Job!

How much coolant did you put in the radiator? Thanks, for the tip, I was thinking this would be a difficult job watching the other videos, glad I found yours. How does the radiator work so far after a month?

I purchased two gallons and mixed it with distilled water to add close to 4 gallons total. The radiator is doing very good. I took it on several road trips across Texas and everything is good.

Was your radiator leaking from the side? I have the same year and model and coolant puddles on the side of radiator by the drivers side. I have a new cap but still does it.
