I am the same way with snakes man. I answered a craigslist ad once, back when I bred ball pythons. I was looking for females. This was a free ball python. I showed up...it was a baby ball python, in a 10 gallon tank, screen lid, no substrate, no heat, tiny water bowl...and at least 3 layers of stuck shed skin. They were feeding him one mouse a month. I didn't want or need a normal male baby...but I saw him, immediately said "I will take him", and walked away. I didn't look back either...for fear that I would punch the idiots who let him get this bad. When I finally rehomed him, he was 5x the size and completely healthy.

That's nice of Jeff. That's a huge hit for a LFS. It's hard for them to do that. You've got a great store and a great relationship with them. Glad he's starting to fill out and color up. He's looking great!

I really don't care if I win a copy of the book Jeff. In all seriousness best of luck to the one you do pick to have a copy of your book. But at the end of the day the even bigger thing is that the Pearl Stingray has a home, it's well cared for, and I think will be a great fish to display in that tank. To be completely blunt, I would have given 1 Fish 2 Fish's fanpage a like, and rating whether you asked or not, because selfless act aside. You trust how he runs his shop, how he cares for the fish there, and his knowledge of the hobby. You also deserve a round of applause and thanks for doing what you do for us that are getting into the hobby as well. As it stands I'm using the knowledge I've gained from watching and observing your channel to help my parents with a 55 gallon tank they have, which is having it's issues, and resulting in some loss of fish. But seriously thank you for what you do Jeff.

Hi Joey, I to visit this store often. I'm in Pictou area only about 40 minutes from you. I have a 75 gal at home and 10gal on my desk at work, my youngest son took over my 20 gal at home, my wife has a 7 gal Fluval Floral and my oldest son living in Dartmouth has two 20 gal tanks. We are strong supporters of 1Fish2Fish and visit as often as possible. They have excellent quality fish. Excellent prices and the staff is super friendly and VERY knowledgeable. Keep up the great work!

It is so amazing that they put the fish's life in-front of making money! It's also amazing that you will take the ray and care for it! This is probably the best scenario for the ray THANK YOU FOR CARING FOR THE RAY and being willing to buy the ray at full price just for it's good being (although you can't be too sad getting 1 more water puppy! ;D)!

This is such a wonderful story, and kudos to you and Jeff for thinking about the health of the ray. He's going to be absolutely stunning in your care, and it's so good to see someone willing to take on the responsibility of taking care of him. We have a lfs employee that's very kind to us in many ways, and its wonderful to hear of others around the world that do the same.

I'm glad you got him instead of someone who might not have taken care of the pup the right way. Let me tell you that I believe things happen for a reason and the reason was he pick you though the store owner. Thanks a lot for sharing this beautiful story with use Joey. And since he took such a big loss on it I wouldn't mind throwing him a couple of bucks to pay back his generosity.

wow this is one of the best videos yet in the year that I've been following you. here you realize that the ray is in dire straights and go to purchase him because of its needs even though you knew it was going to be expensive purchase. then Jeff no it knowledge that he is not capable of giving the care the Ray needs but to give him to you Justin the acknowledgement of saving him. this only shows that both of you are outstanding people

I was at petco once and I was looking at their fish and noticed a beautiful big blood parrot cichlid in a tank. I was told he was 5 years old and outlived most of his life in a restaurant before I got him. I was lucky enough to get him for free, and he lived with me for a few months before he passed away. I love my petco cause they always make me proud and sometimes even give me discounts on fish. Like another pair of jack dempseys I got both just for $10

Not just Jeff you deserve a big thanx from all the hobbyists out there for doing something like that. Fishes take lots of abuse in the trade but things like this really brings life into the hobby.

Incredible, this store is about 15 mins from my house but I've never checked it out. All I have is a 5g betta tank now, but I want to get into bigger tanks after I move and after seeing this video I will DEFINITELY be checking this store out!! It looks gorgeous! So many LFS here fail so I'm so happy to see that this one is still thriving and want to support it once I'm more able to do so!!! :D

I am very against animal industry, and fishkeeping. BUT I rescue a lot of animals including fish, and need info. When I found your channel it restored my faith in humanity, and your fish store friend is sweet too. I'm still not on board with the pet industry but I am grateful that there are people like the 2 of you, that remember animals are 'people' too! Also, Canadian accents give me life and the way you pronounce emaciated has me lolling

While I don't own fish. I would love some, but I feel my house especially in the winter gets too cold and wouldn't aid in keeping an aquarium, I still love your vlog. I appreciate how informative you and some others are, that one day I could be a successful aquarist. I gotta say though, you don't always get to choose your pets, they choose you. That little guy chose you. I own 2 cats, they are not the "breed" I want, but for reasons, they chose me. For one of them I can say I have the luckiest black cat in the world. So remember that, they choose us too.

Awesome story, I really stoked for your new projects, between asian arowanas and the salt water set up. And all the other stuff that's been going on in your fish room, I really have to say im really looking forward to seeing that pearl grow up, I know the black diamonds are just as cool, but I like the back story, I really love rays both salt and freshwater, but im scared to buy one cause I don't think I have enough experience.

I would never be able to care for it properly so I won't get one, but they are just the most beautiful and majestic creatures ever. Joey you have inspired me. I live in Dartmouth, a few minutes from 1 Fish 2 Fish. I used to be into fish keeping when I was younger, grew up and life happened. I used to love watching and helping my dad with all of his fish tanks, falling asleep calmly while watching the personal tanks in my room. I now have a daughter and wanted to get back into fish keeping, even though my husband hates that idea... But I've never trusted pet stores for the quality of their fish and can't find local breeders through Kijiji that have something I'm interested in. To be honest we've moved recently and I don't want to spend money my husband works hard for on something he considers "stupid." So, I don't have much to afford the aquarium size I want, nor the setup. But I have traded in my Exo Terra for a 30 Gallon! It's just sitting there, not sure what I want to put in it yet because everything I really want requires a larger tank. But watching this video and listening to you say how he let you have the stingray for free, really lets me know that this place can be trusted because they obviously care about what they have in the store. I'm going to go take a look in store when I can, I'm so excited!
