There was a lot of care in trying to fit multiple immigrant communities into the letters of the alphabet. No video of 26 dishes can be completely comprehensive but the attempt at inclusion is seen and appreciated.

This is proof that quality takes time. I love how enthusiastic Berryl is.. and you can tell it’s because she took her time. She wasn’t exhausted from taking about all this food and history because she did it slowly over time. The result is an enthusiastic hostess that keeps you interested.

As a New Yorker, a restaurant worker, a history buff and an enthusiastic home cook - I absolutely loved this! Beryl, you've helped me try cooking new foods in my own home kitchen and now you've inspired me to get out and try so many of the amazing things our city has to offer. Keep up the good work, you're quickly becoming one of my favorite creators on RU-vid!

As a Sydneysider (Oz), a former waitress, a history buff and an enthusiastic home cook - I absolutely loved this! (*THANK YOU KATE TOO*!) I'll never get to New York, let's be honest, but I LOVED seeing the food, the venues, the history, the honor and the passion to maintain that heritage. Food, fashion, language, music, culture NEVER EVER stand still but they always echo and reverberate throughout humanity. Food brings us all together - we may argue over who's version is best but it very rarely ever leads to bloodshed. *THANK-YOU BERYL FOR A BRILLIANT VIDEO!!*

Beryl- you outdid yourself! This needs to be on PBS or another major food/history network and blow up on social media. I can't believe you have less than 1 million subscribers. You not only cover the food, but the history behind the food. Entertainment and educational for the viewer. I follow lots of food YT and you outshine them by miles!

Being a foody and history nerd this is up my alley....PLUS being a New Yorker I can honestly admit that Beryl you have helped me explore our city more to many places I have never been and be aware of many places I've never been to and be adventurous in our own backyard. I feel like a hermit because all I do is work work work 😅 and not really stop to explore our city which is vast and has a lot to offer with a ton of cultural delicacies from around the world itself 😍🤤. Thank you for your content and hard work and sharing all these wonderful foods/history/culture with us❤.

The New York Prezels look almost exactly look South German Pretzels. Only we would never pair them with mustard. They are eaten as is or cut (partially) open and buttered. Sometimes with chives sprinkled onto the butter.

I don't hate Action Bronson's RU-vid channel for discovering new NYC restaurants/food but this video from Beryl was great. It's interesting how little information there can be out there on social media, via google etc., when it comes to discovering things that aren't simply the latest hyped thing/whatever the algorithm is favouring today.

This was honestly one of the most interesting, enlightening and fascinating videos I've ever seen on RU-vid. It's not just food appreciation but also cultural history and urban history all mixed in. What a ride! I enjoyed every minute and can't wait to go to NYC and experience all this. Thanks so much Beryl! I love all your food videos but this one really stands out from the rest because of all the extra work (including extensive research) that must have gone into it. I'm guessing that it must have taken months to put together! 🤩 A fascinating watch and I've learnt so many new things (about food and also about NYC, one of my favorite cities in the world, _as well as_ the people of this amazing city). This video is a gem and I'll be coming back to re-watch it again and again for the content - and will definitely be recommending it to my foodie and travel enthusiast friends as well! 💖

I loved seeing how so many cultures are represented. I feel like you could do this project all over again but with street food/food trucks only and still never run out of ideas. As a New York Jew, what really blew me away is how many of these covered deli food included the New York Jewish experience, from the bagel to the to-go cup, even Zabar's! And just in time for the New Year, too! Shana Tova (Happy New Year!) 🥰

I grew up on Long Island’s south shore and this video was a delightful trip down memory lane! My older brother used to take me into The City all the time. When I was older I took the train in with friends. I have ordered bagels & black and whites from Zabars and use the Zabars bag all the time! I remember our drug store had a soda fountain and served egg creams. We had great deli’s(German & Italian) and wonderful bakeries(German & Greek). Tell me Beryl, can you still get a pepper & egg hero in NY? That and clam rolls were a family favorite.❤

And I love how you take the time and make the effort to learn about different cultures and languages, and the respect you have for them. New York has always been one of my dream destinations and I'm sure I'll finally visit it soon! I'm Panamanian with Spanish heritage (my grandparents were from Mallorca). New york is a good place to be an introvert weirdly. There's so many people in Manhattan that you kind of walk around unnoticed and can stay entertained by yourself watching people, eating on the go. Its a place where you can be weird and people don't look twice at you and it's considered fine to be alone in stores and restaurants

Great content, most interesting I've seen on this channel (as someone planning their first trip to NYC and looking forward to basically spending the entire time stuffing my face). This was fantastic. Every great city needs a food guide like this hosted by a local like you Beryl. You weren't afraid to head to places that many people wouldn't because you understand that they are culturally significant and inherently worthy to be explored and appreciated.

My current hyperfixation is the history of American food. Your channel has helped itch that scratch so much but this video in particular was chef’s kiss! 😘🤌 Thank you for all the insane work you put into these top tier videos!

Beryl, you should do a “foods they are better the next day” episode. A tuna pasta salad and meatloaf and many rice hot dishes come to my mind.

Since your style has very apparently carried on into your personal channel after, I am so happy to follow you as you continue to make wonderful videos that have so much care, research, and personality in them. ❤

Living somewhere that the food scene isn't very diverse, I'm always so in awe of NYC and the cultural and historical variety in food there. This video must've taken so much time and effort, thank you for this, I'll def have to check out the food scene next time I'm down in NYC 💛
