I Restored Nana's Rusty Bean Slicer - Restoration 

I came here to find out how to restore my mother’s old bean slicer. Both the video and the restored bean slicer are a work of art! I love all the sounds. Mine does not have separate blades. The cutting surface is just formed out of the disc that is turned by the handle. It still works perfectly but is quite rusty and the finish is very patchy. It really deserves some TLC!

My mother used this particular piece of equipment almost every week in the summer when the beans were growing it’s called a Sponger bean slicer every Sunday for dinner.👍

We used such a slicer when i was young, to cut beans and store them with salt in a big pott in the cellar. In winter, sometimes my mother took enough for a meal, cleard the beans in water and cooked them. It is a kind of storage, like German Sauerkraut.

That is awesome how you restored that bean slicer. It looks much better and it works like a charm too. Excellent work as usual.

Good colour choice. I have collection of Spong grinders for meat coffee and marmalade. 😀

The thinly sliced beans taste wonderful. Different from chopped. It is hard to explain why.

Never seen one of these...that was not at all what I was expecting. Interesting gadget.

I was initially sad that you used a Harry Potter playing card as a scraper to smooth the jb weld, but then saw you chose Peter Pettigrew.....lol

The restoration should have stopped at the wooden knob. The original was far more attractive than the finished product. Otherwise, it was a nice job.

Feeding beans down that chute one-by-one, you would have to be better off with just a knife.
