Yep, owned several German cars in my past, 13 bmw's(e36 m3, z3 etc.), 6 ford's(Sierra Cosworth, xr4i 4x4), 2 Opel's... each and everyone of those sucked and had a lot of problem or some problems, expensive to keep / fix.. bought my first Honda 4 years ago and never going back to German's. 4 years of Honda and 0 problems, just normal maintenance.
@@micara981 civic sedan 2008, 1.8 r18a2 140hp, also i am 2m tall(6'7) and that civic has more room for driver than many bigger cars. 👍(oh and all my country Hondas are made in Japan, i know that is big thing also with the quality)
I previously owned a BMW E90 and I have to say that after going with Honda I probably never go back to BMW again. The BMW was nice and all but the maintenance expenses were just not worth it.
Thanks alot for the comment. Very interesting comment too. Thanks alot for sharing your thoughts. My friend had a E90 and had lots of electrical issues. Was in and out the garage alot !!
I have civic 2.2 C-TDI from January. And my plan is to keep that car for as much as I can. It is going to hit 320kkm next week for sure, despite of injectors being faulty which will be replaced very soon it is a hell of a good car. Not so comfy as its a civic, but that does not bother me as i am young guy (my first car was citroen xantia which was flying carpet :D). Engine does not take a gram of oil after 7000km its smooth despite injectors being worn out. But it suits me well. Small and agile with good diesel engine 90% driven on highway as i am commuting to work. After sorting out all mechanical aspects I want to give last visual touches an make it usable for years :D
I own a 2.4 tourer , its been faultless in the over 3 years I have had it . Decent fuel economy from the big petrol engine , loves revs to 7000 rpm , mine has beige leather which improves the interior , brightens it up . Easily the best , most reliable car I have owned , will not be parting with it . Lloyd vehicle consulting has done a recent review of my car .
@@spottedmotors yea it was in response to the poster above who said the petrol gets decent fuel economy. I think the diesel auto gets about 38-40mpg according to Honest John Real Mpg, but the petrol about 28-32, which is too low for me.
I had an older model and it was probably the best car I owned, up there with 80s Mercedes for quality. Considering how cheap and old it was it was reliable. The switch gear made lovely clicks. The only thing that started to go wrong was the cruise control but that was pre-electronic so not suprising. The sun-roof design was clever, it could be left open even in the rain for ventilation and the water would magically drain out. The seats were super comfy, the handling was great, it felt safe and planted at 120mph (autobahn). Have now got a civic which is a step down, it's better on fuel and more practical but not as comfy or solid feeling. Also the Civic had to be a manual as the automated manual is really bad! The Accords have proper slushbox autos. These newer Accords dont seem that cheap 2nd hand though, I think people are sticking with them as Honda don't import them anymore.
Thanks so much for your comments. Really nice to hear other people's experience with the Accord. My Dad is thinking of his next car being a Civic... ill pass on your thoughts on the Civic. Cheers Spottedmotors
@@spottedmotorsGreat review! But just for the record, listening how excited you were to count the options,I had to mention the ones on my 2003 E46 330i. I got 3 position 8 way memory seats with power thigh extension and power lumbar support,16/9 TV/DVD/Navi color screen, heating seats, automatic xenon lights, automatic wipers, automatic AC,cruise control, power sunroof, trip computer,hi-fi stereo Harman Kardon, parking sensors ( only rear ),power folding, heated and automatically dimming mirrors, power rear sunshade and full auto power windows. The only thing that Honda has is dual zone AC,which I don't think makes any difference, since I had E39 with dual zone and never seen any real zone temp differences. But yeah, consider mine is like 10 years older car 😆
Bought a 2005 2.0 VTEC SE Accord, 85k miles on the clock it cost £1900 and I used it to cover so big business miles a couple of years ago. Did 10k miles in four months, no problems at all but traded it for a 2007 CDTi EX model, paid £3k for the better fuel economy and all the toys . That car has now covered another 50k and no problems except a minor diesel leak. Just got back from a trip down to the South of France. Covered 800 miles each way in one hit, the car ate up the miles and is the most comfortable car I have owned. FWIW I have owed new cars mostly for the last twenty years and only bought this as a motorway hack, I have had BMWs, Lexus, Range Rover, Mercedes and this is as good as any of them. I will be looking to get one just like your dads when mine finally breaks but that could be some years away.
Fantastic comments. Since filming this video I've had a audi and bmw. Both had problems and turned into headaches. My Dad's Honda which he still owns has never missed a beat. And has probably covered more miles than me... I'm currently looking for a car and am drawn to an Accord.
@@spottedmotors Go for the 2.0l VTEC, unless you are doing lots of miles, really great engine and with the differential between diesel and petrol prices these days the mpg difference doesn't cost that much more. Also the EX trim come with absolutely everything as standard.
For me this is like having a BMW 3 series without the reliability problems. I was gonna go with the BMW 318i E90 until I found out how unreliable the engine is, even though the 318i is a lower insurance group and slightly more fuel efficient and slightly faster, I didn't wanna run into repairs every few months. Ever since I got my Accord CU1 EX 2.0, the only expenditure I had to make was replace the front door speakers as it had come with the driver side door speaker being blown (common issue with that speaker system). Other than that, everything else on the car (especially the driveability) was in brilliant condition and fully working. And the BMW 318i as you said wouldn't have even had half the interior features that this Honda Accord has got. This car is specced to the brim. Shame mine doesn't have a sunroof, though I don't see how I would've found any use for it.
@@spottedmotors imagine that BMW 318i that I was looking at on AutoTrader didn't even have automatic headlights when I saw the pictures of the interior 😭
@@spottedmotors It just didn't sell that well when compared to the previous version. The UK press was not very positive about it. I have one and love it, also had the previous version which sold like hot cakes. A reliable, comfy and enjoyable car to drive.
@@spottedmotors the UK press and the likes of TG can make or break a car. I also had the previous generation with the ctdi, great car. This version with the idtec is a improvement all round. Ride, handling, feel, quietness, solidity etc.. Are all improved. Yet it didn't sell. Honda did price it a bit higher than other main competitors so that did not help matters. Still I like the fact I drive something that is rarer on our roads than the German mainstream you see everywhere. Great review and your Dads car is a lovely example.
Just purchased a 93,000 mile 2008 EX GT. Oldest car i've ever owned. A little worried it'll be reliable but the spec, rarity and look-n-feel of the vehicle convinced me to take a punt.
Honestly think you won't have a problem. 93,000 is really that much. As long as its been serviced regularly and you keep up on that. It should have many more happy miles left in it
Great cars, nowadays i'd avoid a diesel due to them all being ULEZ non-compliant but I purchased a 2.4 petrol at the start of the year and absolutely love it. My only real complaint is the satnav is hopeless, even in 2013 I think it would've felt out of date, and there is also no bluetooth audio streaming. And Honda were still installing this dated system up until the car was discontinued in 2015! It's quite a lot of work to convert to an aftermarket stereo but not impossible so it can be fixed, or just go for a phone holder + AUX bluetooth adapter.
Excellent comments. I am totally with you about the Sat Nav! It's useless being honest! And again will agree. If I was to buy one now. It would definitely be the petrol one. Great comment and thanks for watching
i have a 2011 accord type s auto . I have been driving it for nearly 3 years and love it. My 3rd Honda accord, a pity you cant get them anymore, not so sure about the civic as a replacement
Hi there, yes all 180 (177 I think) auto or manual. Although the Manual will be faster to 60 mph. The type S is a fantastic car, really like it in this spec. Is a shame the Accord isn't available anymore.. such a good car !!
This honda was very nice, well built and good desgins being modren but not ugly or stupiditly made like new cars are these days, my uncle had 2011 accord full leather and etc 2.0 Vtec petrol, he used is for minicab as luxury car, and when he bough it car only had 80k miles and in 2 years he had 200k miles on it and it still had no issues looked like it never had 200k and still looked on 80k miles, these cars are very nice built no matter its diesel or petrol both great engines.
They’re not that cheap, I own a eighth generation Honda accord 2.4 petrol. One of the best cars I’ve ever had built solid like a tank. But definitely not that cheap. Mine has over 100,000 miles it’s a 2012 and it’s still worth £7500
I recently bought one of these (automatic). Its consumption is about 10 L/100KM (28 UK MPG, 23,5 US MPG). However, some blogs and websites claim that the real consumption should be around 39 MPG. My car burns way more than that and I don't know if it's an indication of a potential problem. Could you please share the real fuel consumption of your car (more precisely, your dad's car)?
Thank you so much for asking your dad about the stats and writing back. This confirms that there is something wrong with the car. I will try to find the reason
Well I'm in BMW ownership right now and I'm constantly spending money on it. My Dad still have this very Honda and apart from tyres and a DPF clean he hasn't spent anything else on it. Very reliable car. Happy motoring
Yes great point. They do need a good run out from time to time. Or the DPF can block... A run down the motorway every 300 to 500 mils normally keep this at bay
Watch out when you get the car serviced. The iDtec diesel engine requires the correct type of oil. A independant garage I had mine serviced at used the wrong oil type, within a month I had dpf issues. Dpf cleaner did not work. A new dpf required and a sensor on the dpf as well. All fine now for over 3 years and 99k. I also only use Shell vpower diesel for the additives contained in that fuel. Any other premium fuel would be fine too, steer away from supermarket diesel.
Does this Honda Accord have a Six CD changer? If so, is it MP3 compatible? I appreciate it does have USB stick input. If you could confirm the CD MP3 bit please.
Hello, sorry for late reply. This is a six disc CD player and on the front of the Head Unit it says R.D.S MP3 WMA. And yes a USB AUX Input. Hope this Helps.
Hi thanks for your question. Ita hard to see if they are less reliable. Depending on how they have been looked after and maintained. The i-CTDI is a fantastic engine. Very very Reliable. But as is the i-DTEC. After milage, id go for The CTDI.. Cheers Spottedmotors
You always have the trouble that you have to clean or change your particle filter sonewhere between 80 and 100000 miles when ypu have got the diesel version. That is really costly.
Correct me if am wrong but I believe the i cdti Diesel engine came with NON DPF, which means 1 less major headache for diesel drivers as DPF problems means expensive repairs!
