That's true but I more wanted to look at what he did before Givenchy to see how he got there, I should have acknowledged it by the end though as to why the collections got worse but at the same time shouldn't he still deliver the same quality?

@@fashionlover4 Even Raf Simons the brand has suffered since he began working at Prada; it happens. To expect him to produce the same volume of innovative designs for two brands is precisely why we lose so many designers before their time whether they pass at a young age or retire from fashion due to the unrealistic demands. My only thing is that what he was doing at Alyx is very similar to what Clare was doing at Givenchy before he was appointed. However, it's clear his true talent, like most "designers" these days -- kim jones, demna, virgil even hedi to name a few -- is in creating very marketable fashions and predicting and adapting trends. That's the only real answer to his appointment at the house. Givenchy needed someone who would make clothing that would just sell regardless of whether the person purchasing it is really into fashion. He sells accessible inaccessibility, and the definition of that ebs and flows so much due to hype and clout that it's hard to portray one solid vision in a brand with this mindset of clothing as commodity rather than art.

It's a strength for helping them sell clothes but doesn't affect the design really. It seems most brands run on hype than design or artistic value.

@@fashionlover4 Yes exactly, so many brands run on hype or creating virality alone. Though sometimes that's literally the point of the brand and the self-awareness makes it cool (think early days Vetements) but being ignorant of that and not in on the joke is lame

@@DDF1600 Matthew is an overrated designer. His designs aren’t unique or don’t have anything new to them. His collections lack the intellectualism of Demna’s and the elegance of Rick’s ones, yet he tries to target their audience. If it wasn’t for the Opium / Playboi Carti affiliation thing there wouldn’t be any hype behind his clothes

@@DDF1600 it’s like his only talent is to make clothes that look cool. But there isn’t any consistency behind his work. If he had some he could have been as good as Slimane maybe. Not in the designs but in the execution and the overall commercial success

@@Annq974 idk my guy to be able to handle not only just ur powerful brand but a brand bigger than urs like givenchy for the amount of time he has been doing it is tuff u cant lie he has introduced some things to the fashion world that wasn’t really noticed fr before and to b able to do that in this wild ass fashion era says a lot🤷🏼‍♀️
