Meeting the LAST Wakhi Shepard woman:
One year ago I met Naseehat. A 76 year old Wakhi woman living ALONE at the end of a rugged valley. For 20 years she attended day and night to hundreds of animals. She lived in solitary, but in peace. Doing a job that would be daunting for most, she did it with dignity and pride and...without proper attire for that region. Chapursan valley runs parallel to the Afghan border and the terrain is barren and hard and gets VERY cold in the winter. When we visited last year with Omer Farooq / @omr9 we noticed she was only wearing a thin shalwar kameez and tennis shoes with no warm jacket, while we were all bundled freezing in our winter gear. She admitted that in her old age she is starting to feel tired and her body is starting to wear down. Her knees were not good and her health was getting affected because of her harsh lifestyle. I promised that I would return to her and bring her a few things she requested. I always keep a promise. One year later, we returned to surprise her and gift her a few things.
