Awsome content it would be awesome to see more pond fishing any content you make is fun to watch just to learn more about crappie and other kind of fishing you do
Negative. We all love crappie but adding them to a small body is disastrous! I learned the hard way. They will cause the whole pond to be in competition for food
The only way I would think black crappie would be “better” for a pond or small lake is because black crappie have smaller mouths and can’t eat what I white crappie can? Idk that’s a tough question. Thanks for watching! God bless
WELL IF WAS ME I WOULD BE DOING SOME SEINEING WITH A NET TO GET SOME BIGGER FISH OUT OF THE POND AND START FEEDING FLOATING FISH PELLETS ...... THAT WAY YOU CAN KINDA SEE WHATS GOING ON IN THE POND WITH FISH POPULATIONS !!!!!!
Have mixture of a few brood (13-15 inchers) with a lot of 7in to 9in. All are black crappie in which some we did stock as fingerlings a few years ago. They get a refresh reload of fathead minnow stocking as you mentioned. The pond is approximately 2.5 acres. Otters invade it every winter and as much as I hate it, they probably help with management. Love your videos, keep 'em coming.
We have that same issue with crappie and to fix the issue the NC Fish and Game came up with the rule no creel and no limit for white and black crappie.
That’s the kind of pond I want raised upon and your right about it being over stocked and you would be surprised at the people that don’t know that from the comments they make when they see you keeping your catch. Keep doing what you’re doing!! God Bless!
Only thing worse than throwing crappie in a pond that small is Green sunfish. Easy solution. Throw out every crappie and green sunfish you catch. Everyone of them. And introduce some big bass!
@@903fishing Im not a fan of bass either. But im smart enough to realize the pond isnt balanced and needs bigger predator fish or human to fix the problem. You can start by not throwing those fish back. Until then that pond will be what it is. It wont fix itself.
It would be great for you to do another at the pond or other close by pond. What is the size of your pond, interested in making one on a small yard. Thanks . Great vids!
State fish biologist in Illinois told a friend of mine that crappie should not be stocked in any pond less than five acres. Friends pond is about an acre and the crappie in it are stunted
A good friend of mine asked me to stock his pond with crappie about 20 years ago. I added about 30 crappie. He was happy. About 3 years later I caught my first one. It was a beautiful 11 incher. We thought we did a great thing. Recently I learned it was a horrible thing. The pond is not big enough to sustain the population. It’s about 3 acres. Now when I go I can catch a load of 5-7 inch crappie 😢 The huge bream are almost nonexistent. My buddy is older (late 80’s) and I’m not sure he understands what happened but maybe I’ll tell him next time I’m at his lake
A friend of mine has a 4-5 acre lake that was once a catfish pond. Over the last 40-50 years bass and bluegill were added and by the time I started fishing it you could never catch a bass over 10-12 inches. The experts told me to fish it as hard as I dared for two years until either I caught nothing or the average catch was over 2 lb. I have caught and ate 100's of bass with once a year catching a big bass and release the big ones. I threw in 5 adult crappie 2 years ago and now that population is about 9-10 inches. The crappie provide food for the bass and the bluegill are still making plenty of food for everyone. Next are a small handful of tilapia to make it better. they keep threatening to drain it and start over so its is not hurting anything. @@903fishing
@@903fishing fortunately I learned how to use an electric fillet knife. Little delicate morsels of fish goodness with hushpuppies and fries. I can fillet and eat 15 without breaking a sweat. So tasty.
Just watched a video with you and Cole catching summer Croppie, so I came over to your channel. Glad I did, and I just sub'd and rung the bell. Ron and Putnam, Texas!
We will just have to start over more than likely. Make the pond bigger, drain it, see what’s in it and go from there. It just needs to be bigger. Thanks for watching! God bless
thank u for the informative video today. I got a question for you. what size split shots do you use ? I would like to see another video of you at the pound
Hey man it’s not ruined yet start pulling some fish out I wouldn’t work too hard because it is a small pond the heat could make it turn over at some point
Takes time but soon it reverses did the same thing to a childhood pond I fished but the mighty survive eat the fry till it balances out. Then caught huge crappie, took ten years. I Added cattails after it caught up to allow the minnow population to advance. Then lost the use after the owner died and his wife leased it out.
If you plan on a restart plan on cattails they last longer than Christmas trees and are pretty much hassle free, if it were my choice the other side of that fence. Have fun seining, done my share uncle raised channel catfish next to Cherokee lake once a year seined out moss that came from the lake birds transferring into the ponds.
@@903fishing I’m willing to guarantee that a lot of viewers will watch your video if you seine it..I know I will! I used to do a lot of seining as a young teenager down in southeast Texas and it would bring back a lot of memories watching you do it lol…plus there’s nothing wrong with frying up some of those goggle eyes ( warmouths ) for a catch and cook!!
