I love how everone was hating on the 64gb steam deck and now love it because it is so much cheaper to upgrade yourself. I bought my 2230 ssd the day i pre ordered for $25....i wish the 64gb was true emmc memory so we could add more storage. But still good they made it easy to replace and upgrade. If they hadnt sold so many high end models they could of shot themselves in the foot with the easy of ability to upgrade the steam deck.
I think I'm getting the 64gb and just getting a 512gb SanDisk extreme. From everything I've read performance is the same between SSD and micro SD. I'm going to play elden ring do you think the open world will perform fine on SD card idc about instal or load times.
@@Spencerwalker21 i dont think you would notice performance drop much coming from the micro sd instead of internal storage. Valve has done good work it seems to incorporate micro sd into the system without performance hit. Mostly just load times maybe but who really cares about that when u are saying yourself 100's of $ doing to upgrade yourself. I was only able to get a 128gb at the time i purchased but got it for $25 CAD...which is still super cheap compared to the 128gb model.
They never explained it and even have the default controls use the shitty joystick so no one thought it was better than a regular controller. look up aperture desk job and you will see what they should have done.
It's the first of its kind by valve, they are bound to make mistakes with it, i myself can't went for steam deck 2 where they will iron out all the physical and hardware flaws they have come across through feedback and see what steamOS will shape up to be by then once it has been polished to near perfection.
@@thecrwster Of course it will, but will it be affordable? Honestly you're paying 3X the price for a GPD win max 2. Paying that much for that kind of performance gain ain't gonna be worth it, Steam deck is still bang for buck.
@@vovical yea but your paying a premium for build quality and peformance and since it's a small company. It has to cost that much. Ur getting a 6800u that has 8 cores and 16 threads. It will be around 1200
Well since my Steam Deck is going to take almost 2-3 months I might as well order that 1TB SSD so I can replace the one in my Steam Deck by the time it arrives.
Very surprised Valve is essentially blessing opening and changing the SSD. The connectors used are not intended for multiple insertions. The connectors and cables are both weak. Especially the battery ones. Yes, I have a Deck to know this.
NOTE: You must have a high speed SD card to get good load times. I believe at least an A2 card. Also, the format for the SD card is custom to the Linux system. (FAT or NTFS will not work AFAIK)
This is not true. An A1 sandisk ultra vs an A2 extreme for example will make no load time difference. However, it will greatly help in write speeds, so downloading/installing games
@@bland9876 No there is an 'A' speed class for SD cards too. The A is ment to signify application read and write speeds. It needs a minimum 30 MB/s bus speed which is what 'U3' denotes, so you will see it combined with that on the card. So 'U3 A1' or 'U3 A2'. 'A1' must meet or exceed 1500 IOPS random reads and 500 IOPS random writes. 'A2' must meet or exceed 4000 IOPS random reads and 2000 IOPS random writes. IOPS stands for input-output access per second.
Corsair sells a 1TB drive that can be used for this. Probably the most reliable company to make one. I ordered it, the dock, and the steam deck all the same day. Drive arrived first, then the dock, then finally the steam deck about a week after the drive.
Because to-niiiight will be the niiiight that I will fall for you... Over Agaaaaaaain!! (every time I see that guy, that song plays in my head I swear)
I thought about getting a Steam Deck, the decided not to. But this episode makes me reconsider and maybe a will get one. I checked on games that will run on it and it's quite a few. Not the ones I want, but maybe I can get them to work. Awesome episode! 👍👍
Sadly scalpers gonna get it anyways. But it’s a pretty cool handheld I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on someday. I’ll probably upgrade the ssd to higher level.
@@bedrockanarchyrealm2762 right!! 😂😂 I still haven’t got my hands on Xbox series X yet. But waiting patiently for it being in stores. But I am still happy with Xbox one s I ain’t complaining.
@@ghostcat8244 I got my series x for retail and I'm Q3 on the steamdeck. It doesn't hurt to put in a reservation that you could always cancel its just holding a place in line
i mean nobody can deny aya neo next is beautiful to look at compared to steamdeck but i just get steamdeck because the support and gpu power is there and the fact i've been waiting all this time to get it q2 and i ain't waiting no longer for an aya neo next on backorder now if all of these handhelds was availible all at the same time i doubt id go for steam deck id go for a higher priced handheld I question the build quality of the steam deck it seems so fragile despite what we saw from the punishment demo.
@@JimmyChampane I was gonna report you for bullying and fighting but I'm just gonna praise you. Sometimes Austin needs to be put in his place 😅👊🏽👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Hey guys also if you're wondering what what SSD to get you can get there M key and also the B&m key SSD,. I've just seen a video where a a person had the 64GB model and when he took out the emmc storage it showed B&M key as it had two notches instead of one so that means you can either have what everyone else has all you can if you did mistakenly by the more with too much as you can still use it it I don't really know what the difference actually is maybe there would be like less than clear for something but it's still available to lose use and that's great instead of me shelling out another hundred quid on something I've already bought what just to end up getting my steam deck and realising that it was a mistake that I didn't need to flush out more money
For me the Steam Deck is the Game Gear of this era. Since everyone likes to compare and bash the Switch cause of the Steam Deck. The Game Gear was way more powerful than the original Gameboy back in the day... Heck even the Atari Lynx was more powerful. Yet the Gameboy was the go to.... I feel the Deck is the device for the "cool kids", like the Game Gear back in the day. Yet most everyday Joe had the Gameboy.
Not sure that's a very apt comparison. The Steam Deck instantly has access to a much larger library than any console out there. The Game Gear had to rely on developers making games for it specifically.
If I remember right the Phawx said in some podcast that a company he was in contact with plans to make Hall Effect Replacement Sticks. So he maybe confused it with this.
I wouldn't call this device necessary better in terms of performance compared the the aya neo next unless you're going watt for watt.. Also it's subjective but the aya neo looks far better than the steam deck... But tht price point is unbeatable, Ill take the ugly duckling, big clunk, thick bezel device any day at tht price
Actually it looks was nicer in person. My opinion on design from the videos and photos was it's just "ok" and nothing more, but after receiving the unit, it was quite nice looking.
30fps is more than playable for huge games like Elden Ring or GTA V. Just because 30fps doesn't look good on a widescreen OLED monitor with a 660 gpu pushing the image out, doesn't mean it its ideal with the hardware and software on the deck.
Valve is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Valve is quoted on RU-vid on their steam deck videos as saying this for the steam deck: "It's your PC, you have every right to open it up and do what you want". The warranty does in fact cover this, you read it on the steam support page on their FAQ on their hardware sold. Opening it yourself is covered under the warranty, but if you do break something while you're inside the deck, that falls under "improperly maintained" under their warranty exclusions again on their "Valve Hardware Warranty" page. Unless you have a quote from a valve official saying otherwise, you are wrong, like hard wrong
