It turns out that one of the Islands in the chain, Mayotte, is still part of France, and is, like, the MOST right-wing 'district' in the French elections, because the other islands are so poor that their citizens keep just sailing over to the (still poor by European standards) French island and starting new lives and families there, so the island is 48% immigrants, which pisses off the native voters.
