I’m American. I’m overwhelmed that the Dutch have individually adopted every grave of ever Allied fallen soldier buried in Netherlands. Most since 1946, most passed down in the same family throughout generations. Thanks for caring for our fallen so very well.🇺🇸🇳🇱🇨🇦🇬🇧🇵🇱

To see actual soldiers that liberated us.. its like looking at angels. At a wonder. Their numbers dwindle each year. Soon, there will be none left. We cherish them: more then jewelry. More then any money can buy. It brings a grown man to tears, to see them: still alive.

I am studying History in the Netherlands. Because I want to be an history teacher. I visited a lot of cemetery's of ww2 veterans. It is such a beautiful but chilling site all those men who fighted for our freedom. We will always remember those who still stand or have fallen. And allot of people think the same here I can tell because all those times I visited an cemetery there where allot of people visiting as well. Sometimes I needed to wait to read something. Love your genuine reaction in the video. Take care and kind regards Hessel

My kids already know everything! As we did...And a small story from my side. Only 60 meters from my house is a Church called Witmarsum Protestant Churchyard and contains five graves of airmen who fell on May 28, 1943. Three of them came from the United Kingdom (Sergeant Peter Cosgrove, Sergeant James Fitchett and Sergeant Eric Short), one from Canada (Flying Officer Stanley Bishop) and one from Australia (Flight Sergeant Arthur Chapman). The flew in 1943 to a city called Essen in Germany to bomb that area. On there way back the plane was hit by a German Jager and crashed just at the edge of my village into the countryside. Three man from the crew survived the rest found there way on the graveyard of Witmarsum Friesland in the Netherlands. The graves are kept well by the community, and there is even a website about he story...Still lots of respect for those young guys who gave their lifes.

I had the honor recently of donating some original WW2 chapel service programs to the 11th Airborne's new chapel in Alaska, as I deal in militaria and came across these. The "Arctic Angels" as they are now called were recently reactivated, and the original 11th was one of the most famous airborne divisions during the war being heavily involved in the Pacific. Both my grandfather my uncle, who were also brothers (married sisters), served in WW2, grandpa in Europe and uncle "Keo" in the Pacific. They ARE America's Greatest Generation. The programs were one of a kind, very rare and valuable, but I would not want them anywhere else. I cried too. I always do. Just thinking about what they sacrificed, and where we are now. God bless these Angels.

Thank you. And what struck me is that woman who was telling about her memory of those parachutes appearing in the sky. The age difference with the veteran wasn't that much, which shows how young these boys were that were basically fed to the lions. Absolute heroes.

Thanks for the Great video! May the vets long live ! Appreicate their service! This comes from a soviet fella whos great grand fathers foughted in WW2. One defending Odessa in 1941 in July-August and with just a platoon he was able to hold the advancement of the whole army for two long hours. Allowing civilians and other troops to flee the city of Odessa who would fall to enemy. grampa badly wounded barely made it alive on the last ship. He survived the war, was a respectable man who toughed me everything. Never bragged about this and always remembered with sadness and tears.. It took many years for him to get better, yet he was silent about war. There were secrets.... Just after he passed away i found out about the battle, him in the old newspapers. Oh God, those man.. They saw hell.. Literally. .. They alll fought for humanity, no matter their nationality and race. We cant just forget that. Cant allow another World War. We need peace! So for those of ye who get to read this message, know that in case Hell breaks loose, no matter, Russians, Ukrainians,French, German , Italians etc . We are all brothers and sisters. Stay merciful and remember that back in the day our great great parents, ancestors might aswell fight along side eachother. Peace and love to each and everyone! No matter the political or religious bs! My regards!

from childhood we're taught about the war, what happened, what it ment.. as kids on elementary school we would go to graveyards to learn more and pay our respects to our fallen saviors. My parents, school, at boy scouts, everywhere we where taught about the war, and in my turns I teach my children the same lessons. National Remembrence day is something very important, my grandparents lived through WW2, and because they where liberated and survived the war we where able to be born. Everybody that is alive today in formerly occupied territory owes their life to these people. That's why we think it's so important, and that's exactly why it's so important to never let this happen again.

My dad was born in 1941 and was a little boy in 1945, but the memory of the American soldiers stayed with him his whole life. The first candy he ever ate was one given by an American soldier. And before the liberation his parents had 2 American pilots hidden in there Barn, because the Germans werd still around. His uncle was deported and never came back. Every family has his stories about this war. I hope this can unite us. Love from Belgium.

Some of the footage showed Margarten Cemetery, I grew up near there and many a times I went there (to take flowers and little flags that were donated by merchants where I lived) I was in the boy scouts, and we went there to clean up the graves, rake leaves, wash the little crosses etc, that was before that got a lot more organized. I saw people there that were wondering why we were doing that. I also lived inNijmegen, for a good while, where WWII veterans are welcomed as the heroes they are. There's a square in Nijmegen called "Plein 1944", accidentally bombed by the allies (de geallieerden) in 1944... The 'allies' airforce thought they already were in germany lready... the locals.. "oh well ... sh*t happens..."

Hey man, stumbled upon your channel. Love the Dutch content and it hits like no one else can explain. Living in Germany nowadays as a Dutch, i feel, see that Germans dont get our stance on freedom, given from those who liberated my grandparents. I miss my grandfather each day a bit more. He survived a concentration camps. And he thought me pike no one else, that our freedom was hard fought for, lives of young men sacrificed. And now in Germany, I'm heavily misunderstood by many, if not all, regarding this topic. I dont blame them, for not having grandparents who experienced and learned from the ww2, but still, telling people here, I'm taking 2 minutes of silence on the 4th of May is misunderstood.

My dear HC, we Dutch know what it took and we will never forget our heroes!!! We'll pass it on to our children and on forwards to their children... Freedom is never taken for granted, you'll know if you'll have a history like ours. I am a not very gifted musician myself, but every year we'll play the remembrance in our town on the fourth of may. During the first corona period this was cancelled, and there was a call to play it from your backyard, and even though I do not play a trumpet but clarinet, I participated because I wanted to honor the fallen soldiers and the fourth of may... My mother and father lived trough the war, they thought me and I thought my children, as they will teach theirs when they will ever come.
