Loern, I think it's the first time that I actually heard your nationality. My grandmother was Czech. So I grew up learning some Czech. Growing up with my parents, our neighbors were Hungarian. I thought it would be cool to try out some of my knowledge of Czechoslovakian on them. As a tween, I knew the 2 languages were different, but I thought they'd be close enough for them to understand the basics of what I was saying. That was my first history lesson of the Hungarian culture! lol It was my first introduction to the Finno-Ugric people! Hungarian: Nagyon szerettem a szomszédainkat. Egyik lányuk a bébiszitterem lett. Annyi időt töltöttem a kertjükben a kertészkedés tanulásával. Az egész hátsó udvaruk zöldség-, gyümölcs- és virágoskert volt. Ilyen volt a nagyszüleim hátsó udvara is, de a szomszédaim a szomszédban voltak! lol Az évek során az ő ételreceptjeikről és kultúrájukról is tanultam. Még mindig van nálam egy fából készült magyar italosüveg, amit Kostelanski úr adott nekem. Még mindig minden karácsonykor előveszem. English: I absolutely loved our neighbors. Their one daughter became my baby-sitter. I spent so much time in their backyard learning about gardening. Their entire backyard was a vegetable, fruit & flower garden. So was my grandparents' backyard, but my neighbors were right next door! lol Over the years, I also learned about their food recipes & culture as well. I still have a wooden Hungarian liquor bottle that Mr. Kostelanski gave to me. I still bring it out every Christmas. Filipino: (didn't forget you Leah, 🥰) Mahal na mahal ko ang aming mga kapitbahay. Ang kanilang isang anak na babae ay naging aking baby-sitter. Gumugol ako ng napakaraming oras sa kanilang bakuran sa pag-aaral tungkol sa paghahalaman. Ang kanilang buong likod-bahay ay isang hardin ng gulay, prutas at bulaklak. Gayon din ang likod-bahay ng aking lolo't lola, ngunit ang aking mga kapitbahay ay nasa tabi mismo! lol Sa paglipas ng mga taon, natutunan ko rin ang tungkol sa kanilang mga recipe ng pagkain at kultura din. Mayroon pa akong isang bote ng alak na gawa sa Hungarian na ibinigay sa akin ni Mr. Kostelanski. Inilalabas ko pa rin ito tuwing Pasko.

Boy Loren, you don't know how much I wish I could transport my steering column troubles to that garage in Nanaimo, from Manitoba, and at least work "beside" you so that we 'could' wrench together!
