It's been one year since I shared the tutorial of how to create a completely renter-friendly board and batten accent wall. Today I'm sharing my BIGGEST regret from the project and doing a Q&A of your commonly asked questions in the comment.
I'll share how this wall is holding up in my apartment, what I'd do differently and if this project is still worth it a year later.
I created a completely renter-friendly board and batten wall using Command Strips and removable wallpaper. It required no nails, no painting and no power tools.✨

UPDATE: Wanna see if this wall will actually come down without damage? I have a whole video on the tear-down process here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lwh7P-JolcU.html ✨

Love the follow up! I own my home, but I want to try this out this way, so I don't mess up my walls.

I'm surprised some people didn't like the white and grey wall. I think that is an excellent choice, it is classic and elegant. Also rather calming. Great job. Love your channel. New subscriber here!🇨🇦

The command strips you used are the same ones I used to put up a hand towel box and when I took them off last month it took the paint, texture and drywall paper off with it. Mine looks horrible and in need of repair. I would suggest maybe use a hair dryer and lightly heat them before you remove them. you may want to lightly do the same thing on any paper that might feel like it is sticking. Just a suggestion.

That's a great idea, thank you! I haven't had any issue with command strips on my walls temporarily, but that was my fear with keeping them up "long term" like I have with the wall! I will definitely give the hair dryer a try

Omg yes that happened to me! I need to hang some heavier art & got the canvas command hangers… have you had any other issues with “damage free” hanging strips or removable wallpaper that i should avoid or tips to avoid removing paint & the drywall cracks ive had issues with in the past?? Love the hair dryer tip btw!!! 💡🧠⭐️⭐️⭐️

You can always go to the Apartment office and ask for touch up paint for your apartment. We move every year for my husband's job and so usually the first thing i do is take a Mason jar to the office and ask for paint. I absolutely love your wall ans it has inspired me to do this in our next apartment 😊

My landlords are quite difficult, I shake in my boots to ask them anything! 70 year old building, plaster walls?

Thanks for the update. Good lessons learned! I was definitely on the side of folks who thought it looked plain (just watched that video this morning), but now that I see how you've styled the room, I really like it. Will I ever learn to wait for finishing touches?! 😆 I've been wondering for two years or so if painted contact paper would work on walls, so I'm SO glad you posted your trial! This gives me more faith that I won't end up with a huge project and bill on move-out day.

This was a great way to do a follow up on the original video. I loved that one and will do a wall like that someday. You have such great tips. This video really takes it to the next level. 🥰🤗

Amazing, Alli.☺ It was kind of you to answer all those questions. In the original video, you were very clear about how and why you were taking a particular course of action. Having never produced a video for public consumption, learning why white was such a great colour choice was interesting. White and grey are a classic colour combo-not boring! It was a great choice. ♡

I watched your video, loved it and am doing a whole room. I’m doing whole room, with door and 2 windows. Wish me luck. 1 comment I’ve read is paint wall 1 st too. I’d love to see a crown moulding tutorial, I’m going to try it 🤭.

Great video! Yeah, I would have painted the boards first, to avoid getting any paint on the wall. It was genius of you, to use the caulking to give it a more professional look. I hope you are able to match that grey paint color, maybe order a sample. You could try going into a paint store or home improvement store and bring photos taken in different lighting conditions.

Great job Alli! I watched both videos because for months I've been thinking about if I could put trim up with command tape. I own my house, but there is old wallpaper in some rooms that was glued directly on the dry wall which makes it impossible to remove without damaging it. The only thing I could think of was covering it with some panels. But seeing you paint the contact paper made me wonder about painting the wallpaper. Some edges of it have curled up though so maybe use some type of clear glue like modge poj on those spots, then paint. I don't know if that would work, maybe your contact paper stayed on so well because of the boards every 17"? Anyway I loved your video and seeing you do exactly what I've been thinking of. Thank you! Anyone who reads this should share opinions about painting wall paper. In any case I know you can out up trim with just command tape😊

Taking the wall I built down today from your tutorial… pray for me 😂😂. It’s about 17x10 ft. I went hardcore hahaha

Omg yes! Good luck! I removed mine and it came down no problem! My only tip is to take your time. If you used the caulk, you can use an xacto or utility knife to carefully cut away the boards. Let me know how it goes!

@@ActuallyAlli it was so easy to take down! I did take my time and it took 3.5 hours to take it down and spackle a few marks where the paper lifted the wall paint. I didn’t use the exact type of paper that you did, so I bet if I did it wouldn’t have lifted the paint. But overall so happy w the install and removal process! You’re the bomb, I appreciate you!

omg, I swear, some people are just miserable humans. It's completely not true that there are no stupid questions. lol Half of them could have been answered with "because it's my business and that's what I wanted!" You were very gracious, much more gracious than I could have been. It looks wonderful and I'm currently trying to figure out how to do it on plaster walls...which is a while different animal. ugh
@MamaCoton
@MamaCoton Год назад
Have you ever used bead board as a “wall” then attached whole thing to a wall? 🧐I’ve heard that bead board is super thin. I have plaster walls, paint, & wall come off when i put things up. 😢I can spackle, however this is a new animal for me! Love your videos!❤
@ActuallyAlli
@ActuallyAlli Год назад
Yes I actually used Command Strips to hang up bead board in my entryway right here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-obi_QdEKU3g.html I think if you can spackle over, then a few nails or screws wouldn't be so bad!

I know it says you’ll post an update when you remove, but before you get there… how would you remove it, since there’s no access to the command strips?
