you definitely need to change the oil if it was dumping fuel into the motor. I wouldn't even drive it until the oil was changed.

Rule of thumb with carburetors, anytime they act up tap them with a hammer or crescent wrench a few times each on both bowls and the body. Very likely a stuck float needle or float itself... It might have required some taking apart and cleaning some crap out of it and reassembly, but carbs are SO easy to rebuild... No need to buy a whole new carb!
@mexicanspec

You have no idea how frustrating it is to watch you work. I grew up with these cars, and i ran a garage for 37 years. That qft has mixture screws for primary and secondary. On the floats the screw is the lock, the. Nut is adjustment. Please use your tripod so you can use both hands.i live in texas, and i will drive to ok and chase you with an ugly stick if you take those original style wheels off.

Randy i respect that you are always honest about your limits of knowledge. With that being said wouldnt this situation with the carb you were dealing with have been a great opportunity to have someone like Santa teach you about rebuilding the existing carb? I have to imagine that new carb was NOT cheap so rebuilding the existing carb would have been far less expensive and educational. Times like these are how i learned how to rebuild carbs. Trust me i know they look intimidating, but in reality they are fairly simple and carbs are pretty much the same from one to another. Again congrats on another great video, and for all the hard work you have put in to have the ability to have such an awesome car like this!! As a classic car restorer myself i am a traditionalist and i will always vote for the stock wheels over the new wheels you bought, but thats not to say they look bad, its just hard to beat original.....

@@trentkarmann here is an example of a "holley gone wrong". I built that 51 ford in my profile pic. I pulled a FI 5.0 out of a 93 mustang and put it in that. I converted it to a carb set up. Easier to tune, and more forgiving.....or so i thought. By the time i finally had it set up right i had pulled that carb off 9 times messing with it. The motor was nothing crazy. I put a very mild cam in it, scorpion rockers, and a 5 series holley. I had messed with every setting on that carb and the whole time it was my blade adjustment that was off.

Also check the oil when you dump that much gas into them cylinders you can't burn it off and it ends up going past the rings into the oil and it thins the oil out and you end up spinning a bearing in the motor so definitely check the oil if it stinks like raw gas drop the oil change it immediately I would change the oil anyways but I'm a fanatic so that's just me

Randy, put the original rims back on the car and get some period correct radials. Remove the stripe and get it polished by your guys but have them put or paint the strip on. Check your paperwork for what was original. Your car would do better in a show all original than with the new tires and rims.
@paulmorgan1897
@paulmorgan1897 2 года назад
You are right about the 4speed. You have to pull the plug and suck out the oil. I would run a magnet into it to check for any gear degradation l. Then just put the new gear oil in it. Take it to a transmission shop and have them fix the 4speed. If it’s the original it will help make it show quality. Check the VIN numbers to see.

I will be happy to Overhaul the Trans for you. Easy Peasy work. I have all the parts. You should get the Flex Plate cover and proper starter. Seals AAR nothing to replace. Get the double thick header gaskets. A days work if that for everything. I would replace the Clutch Pressure Plate and Throw out Bearing anyway along with the Pilot Bearing and keep the old parts. Except the Pilot Bearing and do a compression test. Etc Etc. BTDT.

You need to use flare nut wrenches on all the fittngs when you break the lines loose.That way you wont strip the fittings out.The power valve on the old carburetor is probably blown.All it takes is one good backfire to blow them out,and your dumping raw gas into the intake.

10:15 FYI, just I guess you could call it "mechanics advice" (not from me being a certified but mechanic by any stretch… but just from experience having worked on carburetors, etc.) whenever I've done pretty much anything to a carburetor (certainly replacing it) I like to (but haven't always) have someone there very carefully watching all the lines going into and out of the carburetor (as well as where the carburetor meets the block) for ANY leaks (as SOON as the fuel pump starts doing its work when trying that ol' first start. If I'm alone though, I will very rapidly RUN out of the car the moment it starts (like at about 10:16 in this video) and check for any leaks. It's not that you would have necessarily forgotten to tighten something or meshed something correctly, but when dealing with FUEL flow, immediately after any fuel line and certainly carburetor replacement/repair, all it takes is one forgotten or neglected fastened point to potentially be sprayin' fuel. Again, while unlikely, I guess I was expecting you to run out of the car and very quickly check for leaks (again only if you're alone and have no one eyeballing those connection points for the first few seconds, anyway, just to make sure). A safety message … from your semi-local, crazy voice dude (and occasional DYI "mechanic" :-)

Not a double pumper. The fuel dumping is either a) Blown power valve, b) gummed/stuck needle and seat c) bad gaskets. All pretty simple to fix. I had a power valve blow out from a back-fire once and went through 1/2 tank of gas in 30 min. It's one of the known weak points of a Holley. You can buy power valve saver kits which are a check valve in the base plate. Some of the newer models incorporate this design change since the '90's. Usually if the needle valve is stuck it will pump out of the vent if the engine isn't running fast.

Its a basic Mallory unilite mechanical advance distributor, no outside controls needed its all under the distributor cap. Its a duel line, vacuum secondary holler, a double pumper wouldn't have the vacuum pod for opening the secondaries behind the electic choke. Much more involved to tuning then adjusting the screws. The cam is Edelbrocks Performer Plus , great street cam, but could very possibly make the vacuum gauge jump.

Hey Randy you act a little amazed by the condition of the ole girl BUT you laid out 40K. Great price in my opinion but she should be in pretty darn good shape this is no 12K fixer upper that you bought. As for the wheels something doesn't look right with the rear wheel look? I think 18s were just a bit to big. Really nice ride Randy and you appear to have bought her right! Leaves you some bucks to sort thru the issues that sitting has caused. BEAUTIFUL 😍

Only M22 Muncies had drain plugs in 1969. In 1970, they all had one.

Ball joint boots are ripped, one side has a crack on it and the other side half boot is missing.
