I wanted to stop by and say thank you sincerely for this video and everything you said in it is absolutely true. I have stopped investing as much as I have at the middle of Alice Cluster (3 sets ago now) because of the direction the game is heading in. I sincerely hope things turn around, but with the huge announcements for other TCGs I think FOW might lose the last of it's player base. I sincerely hope, like you, that we will be proven wrong in the long run but as of right now things are looking poor. I tried to tell my followers this but apparently they don't understand how the market works and all they're doing is bitching at me. I've tried to reach out to Force of Will and they don't seem to care about what I have to say, so maybe your video will make some waves because I really don't want to see this game die.

From a professional standpoint as one of the largest singles vendors in this game, there is a lot of merit in this! Though I still believe there is some value left in this game and its slowly plateauing but it may come back! I still maintain 10k+ a month in sales...

Hey what do you think about the new magic set thats coming out, Masterpiece Series: Kaladesh Inventions? Im not really into magic, and haven't kept up, or played standard since m14, or Theros, so ive been really lost with all the new stuff.

I totally hear you Rudy. I was blown away by the first three sets and got in heavily. There were multiple fun decks to build - crazy combos, solid control, top notch aggro - and the balance of the game seemed at a high, Legacy MTG level, but actually balanced. Then two things happened: 1) The Turn 1 Kill Bahamut deck. 2) Millennia of the Ages. Millennia of the Ages seemed cool but didn't have a single card that actually helped against the Bahamut decks. Sure there was the promise of more useful cards in the next set. This is like Homelands being released in the middle of the Tolarian Academy Combo Winter, and WotC doing nothing about it, just saying "Wait for Mercadian Masques". Everyone I knew who played the game just stopped. You can't in one swing negate EVERY DECK BUT ONE and expect players to stick around. I've even took a peek now and again to see how the game is doing and when you see tournament after tournament after tournament with 8 copies of the exact same deck, you know that the company DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE. Honestly, there is a great game in there, they just F'd it up HARD.

What is your opinion on the new set Curse of the Frozen Casket? They actually changed a lot of what you particularly talked about toward the MOA and others.

You're 100% right - I knew some shit was up when CFB stopped carrying FoW months ago. It's nice for the game to be affordable...until it becomes impossible to buy anywhere.

I went heavily into Fow at release. I had sold off my Magic and switched. I had multiple sets of everything. I could not get the game to take off in my area despite whatever I tried. I stuck through MoA to see what happened and then Alice Cluster came out. I saw a glimmer of hope. I soon realized the error of my belief and also the error of the company as you brought up. I sold off my stuff asap to cut loses before it was completely worthless. Still took a huge hit. But the game was immensely fun to play. I loved playing it. But the small community we had is down to about 3 people now from 20.

I have to say, I'm sort of glad you made this video. You raised some fantastic points (and good lord can only imagine how you feel about the new card layouts/redesign with the points you made about them not caring about peoples collections, oohfs). It's really sad to see the game dieing out but I understand a bit more why that is now. It's always nice to hear from a passionate retailer and it really is a shame how down hill things have gone. I really agree with you on the early sets, they were so imaginative and fun! So many great designs (like a Werewolf Red Ridinghood, honestly what got me playing the game! That is an AWESOME idea!) and so many great card abilities and so on, even though we had a ton of powerful cards it still felt balanced because almost every card was value! But... I think they tried to tone down the power and sets just started becoming worthless. Like you I really hope the game recovers but yes... things are very painful right now. Thank you for being honest and passionate with us! I really hope more people see the video.

So I'm a strong fan of FoW, and I do have to say it's a great argument. A bit inflammatory, but the same frustration I had with the MoA/Alice Block timeline. However, my favorite part was where Rudy makes a point by putting a card in his mouth.

I discovered this game one day when the Towers set had just come out. The artwork, style, use of classic fairytales and all the other unique stuff about it was mind blowing to me and I was loving the shit out of it until the spoilers started coming out for MoA. Aside from all the points you've brought up in this video there's also one other thing that's gotten me to stop being excited and that is the artwork itself. A lot of the amazing artists who did illustrations for the first three english sets either stopped or are doing something like only one card every other set now. The artists I didn't like as much have taken over and when coupled with all the other bullshit I hated like the changing of how they do foils and all that I got tired of it all. Really sad and I hope they have a change of mind/heart soon.

I started and admin the original UK fanpage since we started stocking it in my store over 2 years ago here, and after they changed the rules from Valhalla, then came out with a great product, they then just.. seemed to try and steer their own game off a cliff. Crazy. I don't stock it anymore, sticking to the Big 3. If they sort out their mess both distribution and content then maybe, cautiously give it a 3rd try but we've been stung on stock that's now worthless before and tbh.. why try harder to push a failing product?

Price of the cards is why I play the game... standard looses value to nearly worthless... but if i'm going to spend my money id rather have completed decks to play with later... I have one box with 10 force of will decks in it... aggro, midrange, combo and control... bought a box of the newest set and i almost have the entire 100 and something cards "in playset" minus the rulers... you and a friend each get a box you can build decks and play solid matches... standard it's always more, more and more money... the newest block is a step in the right direction for FOW... One more thing they also just released a trailer for a short film (1 of x) and it has a decent amount of views already! In terms of it being lucrative yea that ship has sailed

Hey, I agree with many of these view points, especially about the multiple rarities per card. I just wanna know how you feel about this newest "block"/"cluster" with their new line of structure decks and rarity. I now work for a card shop in KC and this new line of product from force has drawn numerous players, old and new. I think that the company is making the steps in the right direction. I have been a supporter and a player since its first release here in America, and I would love to see the game strive. Please let me know what you think!!!!

I like the fact that your points in your content create so many different reactions, so allow please to give you my points as well and I would really appreciate your reply (everyone of course is welcome to reply) because I find your opinion interesting and I respect it ( Note: I will try to cover the investing part as well as I can ).As you told in your video when FOW first released in English edition everybody was really excited about it and it was matter of time before it had a huge player base because it was something new. First I would like to say that with both cards ratio system that fow used were easy for people to get their cards but in Grimm cluster the only way to get started was only from booster packs(in terms of seal product) so of course the only way to get them was by buying either a huge variety of sealed product or (and probably the solution) was buying singles.That had as a result to increase the demand on singles so you the invenstors could easily have a better profit and sell at higher price because of the demand(keep in mind that then there was still a really huge player base) and the restricted supply.Great examples of card that had demand were ''Thunder''(15$), ''cheshire cat''(30-50$) , ''Fiethsing magus of holy wind'' (20-30$), ''little red the pure stone''(lower at 20-30$) and even some Uncommons like ''Gretel''(4$). Moving forward ''MOA'' was indeed not a good set because it containted only ''resonators'' and ''spell'' it was just the little things that this cluster didnt cover.Also it was the time that they were using the new cards ratio system that added the non-foil version of cards, so ''Moa'' Should not exist as booster set but something as a starter deck or something similar. to the last part of Grimm that was the 'vingolf' set. To be honest I believe it was both good and bad because some of the more staple cards it would better to be treated in promo version with different Illustrations.On the other hand though The dual attritube stone were good reprints because it was a helpfull starter collection and it was preparing the newer players for the ''Alice'' cluster so that was good for the player base.Then the new cluster was released, there were even starter decks.Some of them had a nice value, the set ''SKL'' was released and the new ''Regalia'' cards were cool.In general a good set.However mistakes were made, the fact they realeased the dual starter deck before Alice cluster it was really bad for the game.Also when they played the finals with only the Alice cluster , the judge who missed the resolution rulling , it made a huge part of the player base to drop the game , that really made the game suffer a lot from both the investment part and the play base.After that when the ''TTW'' set was released the game was not healty due to the Reflect/Refrain ruler for whole 8 months dominating and that happend because its designer was too sure for himself/herself or he did it on purpose for reasons.To conclude that the rest Alice cluster was not so good and with no value because of Reflect.For that reason there where always left the in stock a lot of supply because they were played the same card over-over again. Finally now It seems that they learned form their mistakes and they have fixed a lot with the Lapis cluster and with the ban of Reflect.There some valuable cards from frozen casket (example given: zero, melfee,), they made a healty meta again , the shake up the market a bit with their ascension campain and I believe they took back some of their player base. So to conclude I think for the most part the game deserves some love because a card game it made from it's player base , they should start printing on their own their product because (at least in Europe) the quality made on cards (made in Belgium) it's really low and lastly I agree with you that the third version of the card(non-foil) it's really needed it's good but not really needed. That's all I hope you found my opinion interesting as well.

I would love your input as a collector and investor, personally I'm looking forward to it even though I recognize the lack luster like Uber rares and chase cards, (because from what I've seen they do that shit too) but I Love FF. And yet yugioh can print a million different rarities and have a ban list that is always changing, yet they can somehow survive just fine.

I love force of will, it's an absolutely great game! However, card shops need to beable to make a profit. This doesn't mean making it like magic where you need $300 for a standard deck, it just means cards need to be a little less accessible in boxes. What this does is gets shops involved with the market and makes them want to support it. When shops want to support a game they then want to hold tournaments which stimulates the community! Yes shops are seeking a profit when doing this, but every business is seeking profit.

Completely agree. When the game was released I bought more sealed product than I ever have in any other tcg. The secondary market was great and you could easily make 150% on every box you bought at retail. Non-foil supers are honestly what made me get out of the game. I'm only really a player but I still like to have some value in my cards after I'm done with them and that's pretty much non-existent nowadays in the game.

Hey Rudy, this video was really intriguing as somebody who doesn't play FoW. I did however used to play Yu-Gi-Oh and they also have a history of reprinting multiple copies of the same card with different foiling. I was wondering if you could give us your thoughts on Yu-Gi-Oh financially? I have a couple of friends who are power sellers on eBay of the cards and seem to be doing really well, but that game, like FoW, reprints their cards over and over again yet continues to thrive.
