Most people pay an arm and a leg to go to animation school for 4 years. You got paid by your youtube channel, and ended up with a whole short film that you made on your own. Real win! By the end of my 4 years of 3D college my demoreel was just a bunch of stills. And I paid $60,000

This video and channel is great. I’ve heard many people try a project on their own and never finish. School can provide a framework of assignments, help and other people in the same boat. Surprised you paid $60,000 in four years for just stills. Though I have heard much more for top animation schools that have contacts in the industry and you leave with a film.

I just released my shorfilm (yesterday!) after two years of festivals route. I made it because I was playing with Blender to learn how to use it, and must to mention that I tried some of your clay textures tutorials but didn't fit with the style and I sweat a lot with textures and rig. Super, super inspiring project! Speaking of impatience, I just rewatched the film for the 3rd time, hitting pause every couple of seconds and still didn't fin Southern blob creature thing. Guess I'll just buy the materials when I'm a more advanced Blender user :DD

Waig this 5 year project took 10k hours, because that would mean a fulltime job 38h a week. Amazing job! I always thought you already were an animator when you started Blender or that you came from a different app. What is your background then?

I've been working on and off on it for many years. I'm counting the failures and learnings. I am an art director and art direct for tech and more. I actually have more experience in 2D and Adobe than I do Blender in my career

When you were talking about the story circle I fully thought you were talking about you and your project and not the character. Long technical projects like this definitely seem to have a long stretch of going through the "Trial," "Find," and "Suffer" phases, lol. It's interesting how the cycle seems to apply to your own life story as well. Very good insight and really impressive what you've accomplished!

YEs this is what I do with Scriver. I jot down scene and random ideas. and then start filling in chapters with clusters. it really works. I have a whole file of just random scenes and dialogues idea to pull from when needed. or I get stuck for inspiration. Great Job!!!

Hi, I really like the animation. Right now I'm using it to prepare my graduation students for their art exams. It's so nice to use an easy-to-relate-to style while explaining the influence of light, colour, compositions, depth and point of view. Well, what I'm actually trying to say is: Thanks you! I am literally having the same story and understanding the all struggling. It is been 3 years already. It is learning and creating at the same time. I also did menthorship and educate students so they can help my project. Paid of course but they left and betrayed me at the end aswell. I would like to hear more about your journey!

This was fantastic not just for a look behind tbr scenes, but it also shows expectations vs reality of the creative process. After 2 years learning blender, i start to create short movie. But its finish with failure, yes, the biggest are the script. Just like you. And then i re create old short movie and it finish well. I did it for motivating and learn how to make script. And now i had a contract with drinking company to make a 10 movies with 15 minutes per episode. i learn a lot from this channel.. It's weird. On my short film(s) I came up with the idea and the script pretty quickly. I kept putting off learning animation, which is a pretty solid bit of the puzzle!

Wait, "7 a.m. in the morning, working all the way till 2 a.m. at night, this spanned 2 to 3 years during production". Subtracting the time needed to get ready for bed and for work, 2 to 3 years of sleeping only for 4 hours per day??? Is that right? I truly admire the persistence and the result, but this seems really really bad for heath and relationships...
