As a Vietnamese fan, i'm glad Joey was enjoying the traveling experience in Vietnam. Btw, just a small correction only, Hanoi is Vietnam's Capital city, while Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam's major economic center, which is why most people mistook HCMC for the capital. Hehe anyway, thank you for showing us your trip. Hope someday you will be back in Vietnam for more experience. I would recommend trying Vietnamese authentic street foods, they are delicious!

@@shino4242 I do find that kinda weird actually, how common Joey makes the videos you're talking about. Because I saw his stuff on Trash Taste first, where he's always happy and joking around. Then a lot of the stuff on his own channel is all doom and gloom.

Joey learned fast: In most of Southeast Asia, the higher up you go, the less humid it becomes (with some exceptions for coastal areas, or anywhere near large bodies of water); this is usually why people escape the hot weather by either going up the hills, or vacationing by the ocean. Japan is further up above the equator, and thus would usually be cooler and drier. Joey and his family hit all the great spots and took joy not only in the scenery and the food, but also getting to know the people they met in their travels. I think that makes for a perfect tourist experience.

Some fun fact about every place Joey when by in Việt Nam: - Hà Nội is one of the oldest city in Việt Nam and had being the capital since the 1010 (yes). - Bus trip in Việt Nam mostly have a half way break every tip, mostly for the driver because maybe it were their only break time for them, plus car license test is expense and most of bus trip driver is 100% do have license from military duty. The rest area is mostly made from the local though - Sa Pa is the only place in Việt Nam able to have snow in the winter, it not as beauty as you would think. Sa Pa is a small province, it was never been a tourism place before because it was mostly small villages of Vietnamese ethnic live. But since the weather was so great that they open the tourism from it. - Hạ Long bay is an UNESCO World Heritage and the second one in Việt Nam, the name meaning is "descending dragon". - Hội An is also an UNESCO and the third one. The town official name if "Ancient Town Hội An", although have been keep the look since the 16th-17th century and way before that more. - Hồ Chí Minh city is maybe not an ideal place for tourism but since this is the biggest city and not the capital, they have a lot mark of modern history in Việt Nam and you mostly know it was the Vietnam War (we called it American War though). The France influence in Việt Nam also made this city having more better environment than the North cities. Those are reason made this city a second best place to go in Việt Nam, Hội An is the best after all - The Củ Chi tunnel was dig bigger for tourism, imagine it was smaller and darker and so fricking deep in the war. Still can't imagine how the veteran made that.

I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I personally always wanted to travel the Greek isles. Love me some Greek mythology and taking a cruise in the Aegean Sea would be a dream come true. Probably why I loved the caves the most in this video. So spiritual and mythical. They also somewhat reminded me of the temples in Final Fantasy X.

I'm Filipino and I've been to Halong bay and experienced the overnight crew ship package. I've also been to Coron/El Nido but I must say that the view and the islands of Halong Bay are way better than ours.

As a Vietnamese viewer (of your anime channel though), I can't believe you reached Sapa but didn't go to the Fansipan! The view and humidity up there is insane, definitely worth an experience (be prepared though)

Watching this video gives me insane flashbacks on when I went to Vietnam several years ago. We only stayed around the parts of Hue (middle Vietnam) and Saigon, but I loved the view rewarded climbing on top of those mountains. Even the mundane lifestyle I stayed at a relative who owned a small coffee shop, was such a sight and an experience! Glad you enjoyed the trip!!

Not related to the video but I would love to hear Joey talk about Japanese literature especially those that can’t be translated (or just books in general)

Thank you for vlogging your trip to Vietnam. I hope you and your family enjoyed yall's stay there! Before covid me and my family would visit our family there every other year, along with being able to visit other cities and touristy areas. I really do miss it, so this vid helped fill in that hole a little bit. I would also like to provide some info from the vid to give context or correct some things that were said. 1. Larger vans are fairly popular in Vietnam as a means of group travel or as rural busses. They can be a bit more expensive so an alternative would be to take a big long distance bus instead, or just scooter the entire way. Also the rest area at 5:34 are located everywhere and would be the equivalent to the Japanese highway rest areas in terms of what they offer. 2. Local Vietnamese businesses/restaurant's will just slap on English words or popular characters on their signs cause its popular and would stand out to attract customers. Most of the time they don't have permission to use those characters or logos but no one really cares there. 3. Night markets/streets are pretty popular in Vietnam and are in most cities/big towns. They are used as a spot for people to hang out, eat, and chill at night when its cooler outside. 4. At 28:12, the game that the two statues are playing is Chinese Chess. My grandparents/aunts/uncles taught me how to play it when I was younger but I don't remember any of it now. I think it plays pretty similarly to western Chess but I could be wrong. 5. A small correction at 37:51, the capital of Vietnam is Hanoi. Ho Chi Minh City (Formally known as Saigon) was the former capital of South Vietnam. It was renamed to Ho Chi Minh City after the war. 6. Another place I would recommend for people to visit while in Saigon would be the Independence Palace, which was the former capital building to South Vietnam. Its a museum now and I remember going through it as a teen with my family. I remember it being a very powerful and humbling experience about how war can be. 7. The Cu Chi Tunnels are another reminder of how brutal war can be. I remember visiting this as a teen and saw the deadly traps and tight caves. My parents used to tell me stories of the war and how close the fighting got to their small town that is just a few hours away from the southern most point of Vietnam. It really is scary how close war can get to you.

Okay, you've convinced me that I very well might want to visit Vietnam! 15 days is a pretty long stay and I don't have any friends or family who would join me for this, so I would be on my own and would cut the time down. But I would love to do maybe some of the hiking shown and explore the Buddhist caves. And as an American, wouod definitely visit the war museum. I've seen some images of what "Agent Orange" did, but I know that's not even the half of it.

26:22 oh dude you have no idea, a lot of people travel to Hoi An *JUST* to buy suits. It's the town for some of the best Italian style tailor of the country, and it's mindboggling how they're able to do it for a ridiculously affordable price

Your comparison of Cao Lau and Udon were spot on. Hoi An was a trading port for foreign merchants back in the 16 century. Many Japanese merchants come to trade and brought Udon with them. They also built many temples that are still in the city to this day. One of them even married a princess here.

about those tunnels, back then the us soldiers had to clear those tunnels with nothing but a flashlight and a M1911 pistol. they were nicknamed "tunnel rats". those boobytraps you saw were also placed in those tunnels knowing that in case they get discovered they would fall in them in the darkness of those tunnels
