While this Romhack is a lot of fun, I do think spending 100 Hours on this wouldn't make for a very interesting video - I would recommend you trying this out for yourself! It's definitely a very good time sink.
I love how pokémon fans commonly complain about the laziness present in the main series, then proceed to make rom hacks that are 10x better. Looking forward to more content like this!
That's why the fans that make these rom hacks are still in generation 2. Lmao. Meanwhile gamefreak is in generation 9 this year. Gamefreak is always trying to get better not just copy and paste like these rom hacks.
I love the fact that you can actually rechallenge the gyms and they scale as well. Actually makes sense for a pokemon "gym". You literally go there to train your pokemon, and is a lot more fitting compared to beating up every single wild pokemon just outside town
Yeah after maybe 6 hours I'm pretty sure that's the intended way to grind. I wish I could just hack in rare candies but it's a gen 2 romhack so never gonna happen lol
Ah, dry and monotone narration combined with humour. My favorite type of content, really can't digest overexcited youtubers nowadays so this is a better set of pace for me. This and Pikasprey are the kind of content i enjoy 100% of the time
I believe that golden rod is the best starting town choice as you have easy access to Kenya the spearow which knows fly allowing you to access ALL of the map + the free gift egg and easier Whitney
One of my favorite starts for Crystal Clear is starting in fuchsia with Pikachu. You can have a surfing light ball Pikachu at the very start of the game pretty much. It's just as insane as it sounds.
So glad you enjoyed it! Crystal Clear is a fantastic experience, and is always my preferred way to play through gen 2. Hopefully more people give it a try!
Interesting fact, this is truly a Rom Hack of base Pokemon Crystal. So if you inject the Game and your Save File (optional) onto a Gameboy Color Cartridge or 3DS Virtual Console, it can connect to all the other Official Pokemon Games and PokeTransfer that the Original Crystal could! (It even works on the PokeStadium/SuperGameboy/GameboyPlayer TV displays) Iirc this means Cheat Codes like from a GameShark for Pokemon Crystal will work on Crystal Clear too, fun idea I've been thinking about doing for a while is picking the Team Rocket Character Sprite then activating the "Steal Trainer's Pokemon" Cheat Code and doing a Rocket Nuzlocke where I can only Steal Pokemon.
Highly recommend rocket edition if you haven't already played it. Fire red hack with the same premise. Super fun, if a bit too easy at times. Short though
Old comment, I know. But because of how the memory was optimized and rearranged internally for this hack (fitting in all the new features, etc), vanilla GameShark codes and other hex edits will break your ROM/save file most of the time. The game has added so many ways to skip around traditional progression that cheating is of fairly limited value.
Never gave this one a chance! I often get a bored with roms that give you too much freedom as I'm fonder of a little immersion and more directioned gameplay, but after watching your run I have to say I might even have to try this one for myself! Even the cutscenes and aesthetic changes weren't over the top. Also your team? Probably the most based one you've had through the course of these videos, but that's just my opinion. 👬
Maybe you know but Lt. Surge's team in this game is Guile's theme from Street Fighter, great vid, you picked an awesome game to showcase, very entertaining
@@ifti2162 That’s great! Though physical carts for many of the games are crazy expensive now so you’ll either want to dig deep or look at emulation! The 3DS titles aren’t bad at all but the DS carts have skyrocketed.
Heads up, this Rom is genuinely compatible with Official Pokemon Games. So if you inject the game and your Save File onto a Gameboy Color Cartridge or 3DS Virtual Console, it can connect to all the other Pokemon Games and PokeTransfer that the Original Crystal could! (Even works on the PokeStadium/SuperGameboy/GameboyPlayer TV displays)
I immediately made my Pokemon follow me/let out of the Pokeball, it's nice you see you discover things on your own P.S. at the party, just press Select at the pokemon you wanna follow you
18:08 FOOL received a SWORD! Counts as a reference to gen 4, being similar to the first line of one of Sinnoh's myths (A young man, callow and foolish in innocence, came to own a sword...)
7:38 just use the Flamethrower move tutor in Goldenrod or Celadon. He’s available pre-E4 in Crystal Clear and only charges 4000 Pokédollars per move (not Coins!). I’ve used the starter Growlithe in CC (which comes holding a Fire Stone) with my starting city set in Goldenrod several times, and as soon as I have 4000 Pokédollars I taught it Flamethrower and immediately evolved it before the first badge. Starting in Goldenrod also gives you access to Kenya (the gift Spearow) as well, which comes with Fly in CC.
I wish/hope they make a Pokémon romhack that’s like this but with all of the regions; Idc if it’s in Pokemon Crystal’s engine, or Gen 4’s engine, I just like the idea of having a Pokemon Crystal Clear -type game with all regions.
I feel like taking on Whitney way later in the game instead of it just being the 3rd gym would be annoying as hell 😂😂 but then I realized fighting type Pokémon and moves are fat more accessible later game anyway so it makes sense haha 😆
Not exactly what I was expecting at the end. Perhaps another Master Ball would have been suffice. But this game has been incredible the best rom hack I ever played. My dream of completing the original gen 1/2 Pokédex fulfilled.
I don't get why Goldenrod is ranked as a 3 star difficulty, as Goldenrod is one of the easiest starts. First, the gift Eevee from Bill. Second, Kenya, who has Fly
I love this hack, but my only complaint is the creator shoehorning himself in as the Champion. It comes off as narcissistic or whatever in my opinion, and he never fails to make it known to you that he loves Swinub. I can understand making him a special postgame battle (which he also does), but the Champion? Nah, man. And the Elite Four's Doom is a raging Cynthia simp.
Love this hack, though the elite four is a game breaker imo, like they should have the new battles be an option in the menu or an optional patch, or heck have them be the simulated battles instead of Gen 2's actual elite four. Besides that tho, Crystal Clear is perfect, and IMO perfectly shows how an open world Pokemon game could work to great success without having to deviate at all from the main gameplay cycle, though I will say I avoided most trainer battles since you can just train by re-challenging gyms you've beaten, but that isn't really a bad thing since it just cuts down on the filler, though I do think it makes any trainer battle you do accidentally get into much more annoying since it's not even worth it for the xp, due to what I said earlier about re-challenging gyms, if I were the creator of this hack I'd probably keep the gyms as a one time challenge until the post game and just include a vs seeker or something like that to allow you to re-challenge trainers with scaled levels without the call system, which would fix the issue of grinding for xp without turning the trainer battles into something you want to avoid. Either way tho, amazing ROM hack near perfect in nearly every way besides what I've mentioned, and possibly glitches though I've never encountered any, or atleast not any that crashed my game or affected my save or anything like that.
While I love the look of this hack, and I love that it’s compatible with official Pokémon games, I think the compatibility also holds it back a little bit. I think more Pokémon would’ve greatly helped it. While you could just throw in some later gen Pokémon, I think it’d also suit the game very well if the additions were scrapped Pokémon from gens 1 and 2 (Including the supposed Shuckle, Yanma and Piloswine evolutions referenced in the Spaceworld demo, with the latter likely just using the actual evolutions from DP). Trainers like Clair, Lance and Morty with limited Pokémon to pick from could’ve benefitted from Pokémon like Kyonpan from SW97 (pretty much the only fitting one with a name and typing, the rest are just sprites that are up to interpretation), and potentially Pokémon like 401, 331, 353 (although they’d require more interpreting) (Also, apparently follow Pokémon was a scrapped feature for GS)
Sorry but I have to disagree. I played this romhack wanting a gen 2 experience. My biggest gripes with the gen 1 and 2 remakes are that they felt the need to add later gen Pokemon when they weren't in the originals. At most, it should be an option to play with gen 3 Pokemon, not the standard.
@@dylanwest2308 yeah, that’s something that varies from person to person, but having beta Pokémon is at least a good middle ground. I really like Bug and Dragon types, so I dislike playing the earlier games, where majority of the bug types available are very bad, and there are little to no Dragon types until the postgame. I think having beta Pokémon would work well, since they were actually intended and designed for these earlier games. The scrapped Johto ones would add some great diversity, and even more if they added some of the scrapped Kanto Pokémon. The only ones I would add from later gens would be Yanmega and Mammoswine, since they have data in the spaceworld demo, but don’t have sprites and such. I’d also likely use the beta Gen 4 designs as well.
The only thing I never liked about this hack was the elite 4.. shouldn't have taken away the OG.. should've just upgraded them like they did with the other trainers.. took away the emotional aspect of the league
I have been trying to create my own Pokémon Crystal romhack but I don't know how to do anything beyond editing the Pokémon trainer teams. I want to add a roadblock to Route 40 where Whirlpool is required to reach Cianwood City, forcing Pryce to be the fifth gym leader.
Yes it's a lot of fun but why did they remove Team rocket from the game & also Silver. The point of the game is to defeat an evil organization & also have a rival that challenges you to become strong and if they remove Team rocket who's going to try to steal Pikachu now
Fairly certain they just ripped the sprite directly from the default MC textures and edited it to fit into a GBC game. Lol. I mean, hey, if it works it works.
I have this for my wii emulators , i never played it yet. Theres also Some other pokemon game with little fairies. And another rom hack with the main character uses a tyrannitar. Theres like 5 or more different Pokemon games from the real ones and can pick any pokemon you want as a starter. I have to play them
It's a bit unfortunate that, at some point, grinding gyms is essentially a requirement to progress further. This could have been fixed with either reducing level requirements or giving a bigger XP multiplicator for trainer Pokemon. And while the "you can go everywhere" concept is really interesting I think it would have been better for gameplay if you had to do some tasks to "unlock" some new routes (tasks that don't necessarily involve Pokemon battles, that is - i.e. the Squirt Bottle "quest" but a bit more complex). Maybe even have them be somewhat randomized based on the trainer ID so repeat playthroughs would be a bit more interesting. But still this is just nitpicking, the romhack is still really darn good.
How can i use the Pickaxe? When i get it, its telling me its to heavy for my bag and it will be put outside. When i go to the entry of the cave and want to use the pickaxe, nothing is happening
