There are different types of bedspreads, as well as manufacturing methods. The easiest way to sew a bedspread is from a beautiful rectangular fabric. A popular option when you can turn it on both sides.
I have already sewed quilted bedspreads with a thin layer of padding polyester for myself and to order. I also used one side in a patchwork style made from squares of different colors.
The latest work is a Yesenin double-sided bedspread, a blanket sewn from squares, which, in turn, are sewn from 4 smaller squares. It also contains padding polyester squares as filler.
Summer is coming and a light cotton bedspread will come in handy.
Calico, satin, chintz, and any cotton breathable fabrics are suitable for its manufacture. Another advantage of these fabrics is their low price, unlike other materials.
I have chintz from Soviet times, a rarity these days, but despite its age, the fabric is strong and the quality is much better than what is now sold in stores.
This blanket is sewn from circles that consist of 2 layers of fabric.
For work, you can take 2 colors or several that match the tone.
The diameter of the circle is 19.5 cm, you can take any size. The whole secret is that the circle turns into squares that are sewn together. This circle produces a square 9.5 x 9.5 cm.
- I folded white fabric and polka dot fabric and drew circles. I cut out two layers at once, having previously secured them with pins.
- I stitched the circles, leaving room for turning, then turned them inside out. I ironed and sewed the hole by hand.
- I ironed each circle crosswise, thereby dividing it into 4 equal sectors. Each ¼ part of the circle was turned inward - it turned out to be a square.
- Then I turned it over to the other side and connected all 4 corners at one point.
- To connect the ironed squares together, I unfolded each corner along the fold and stitched it. First in stripes, then the stripes were sewn with one line.
The result is a continuous fabric with all the seams on the inside.
On the front side of each square, I sewed 4 petals together by hand.
So far I have sewn a small fragment to show you how to do it, but soon I will make a size 1.5.
