I recently studied abroad in the Netherlands, and the girls I boarded with truly allowed me to be myself. I never once felt judged or as if I needed to suppress who I was. I had never felt that way before. That freedom...it made everything possible. I've always had this impulse to run away, run so fast that I evolved into a better person and stumbled on a better life. I always wanted to go into some unimaginable distance and change everything. I've always had to suppress these feelings, but on that trip, with my roommates, all my impulses to change my life turned into action. With those girls any adventure was possible and we'd spend our days living life to the fullest. We would book train tickets to Belgium while wine drunk at 1 am, or dance in the rain outside our dorm from how happy we were to have met each other. I would suggest going on an hour walk and they'd come with me. When I was looking sad they would let me vent. When I would get separated from them, and end up lost they would find me. They made my life full. I know it sounds corny, but truly, they saved me. Completely and forever, they changed who I was. Being given the freedom to be who I always wanted to be, to do what I always wanted to do, and to enjoy what I have always enjoyed without judgment, healed me. Opportunities like mine and the one in the video can be frightening. There is so much that can go wrong, being in a new place and surrounded by total strangers, but having experienced all that can go right, it is worth the gamble. This video reminded me of my experience and brought back all those memories. Thank you for sharing Xx
That sounds amazing and so liberating. I will study abroad as well next academic year, i hope I' ll have a similar experience when it comes to the people i' m surrounded by, cause in my hometown I' m losing myself as days pass by and the people around me don' t make me feel like I can completely open up or show my authentic self, thank you that was inspiring and made me feel hopeful :)

my question is how did a 9 minute video about strangers becoming friends so quickly and finding themselves make me cry 😭 Does anyone know if there are camps like this for just artistic young adults?
Just today I was like it's so rare to see people that feel deeply and are expressive of that because majority of us (I'd say all but like leaving a margin) are scared of emotions. And even us deeply emotional ones find it hard bec emotions are so easily invalidated in today's world. Oh I'm seeing myself in you Bibi Jane. What you said at 7:15 reminded me of the lyric from Lana Del Rey's song "Love Song" that goes "Is it safe, is it safe to just be who we are?" It is so rare to feel that safety and connection but when you find it, it's magic.
