I have two rig combos I use: My "A" rig is a Lumix G80 with the Panny (non-Leica) 12-60mm Lumix lens (recent buy, super glad I did - it's the most Goldilocks of all my Goldilocks lenses and water sealed, sweet lens!), a tiny little Lumix 35-100 zoom, an Olympus 45mm as my in-the-bag prime and some macro rings. My lightweight "B" rig consists of a "classic" Lumix GX1 body (highly recommended if you can get hold of one, although they are becoming like unicorn b*****ks) with the little Lumix 14mm pancake and the somewhat rare Lumix 14-42 pancake powerzoom (H-PS14042). I have immense respect and feelings of awe for the G80 (awesome camera), but the GX1 is the twinkle in my eye. I might sell the G80 to up-scale in future, but the GX1 is one of those "pry it from my cold dead hands" items. You have to try a GX1 at some point if you haven't already - I am confident you will like it.
I just got one for $350aud, 1275 shutter count and in new condition with the grip. I also ordered the 17mm 1.8 oly which im still waiting for. Cant wait to take it on the streets of Melbourne oz. Coming from fuji (x10 + x30) I'm looking forward to see how the oly performs. Ive got a feeling its gonnna be good
Great video David! I literally know nothing about this camera, but it looks like it really did a nice job. Definitely a nice compact set-up for a walk around. Some really great shots like the pink suitcase (random is quite right) and the red balloons tied around the street sign were my favorites, as well as the guy on the bike against the brick background. The restaurant worker in the alley was mint as well! Really enjoyed the video, always a great look around! Hope all is well with you and yours mate!
Thanks, Paul. It’s an incredibly fun camera and surprisingly capable. I’m happy the lad took a shine to it. I love that grungy industrial area as there’s always random things and new artwork around. I’d certainly like to have a poke around inside some of those buildings. Thanks for watching, Paul. Have a good one, mate🖖
I feel your pain Man... it's a great camera. I got the EM10 mkii as my first interchangeable lens camera and I loved it! Especially in rgds to the form factor and capabilities... but a few months in, I realized that I got the wrong one. An Olympus camera isn't like a cel phone, it will last for many years with care. So I decided that I wanted to leave it behind for my daughter, which is a problem for me since I live in very high humidity, so I got the EM5 mkii on sale used for about 350USD because it's water sealed and I love it even more. Rarely use the EM10 now. All of the customizable buttons , one on the back for exposure lock for skin tones with spot metering or general lock on red for great color rendition. One on the front for focus peaking for vintage lenses, articulating screen for selfies.... about 6 buttons in all I think, try one if you can, leave the EM10 with your son.
Oh I have the EM1 mark ii now so the EM10 is his, it’s still a great camera for street though and I might pick up an EM5 just for that form factor. Thanks for watching 🖖
Well at least your son gets to benefit even if you lose full time ownership of the EM10 David. There's been some really nice light recently, definitely my preferred time of year, but the autumn colours don't seem to be popping that much so far, don't know what it's like up where you are - I'll undoubtedly be too busy to take advantage when they eventually appear. Love the guy on the bike about 6 and a half minutes in, and the light looked good throughout the video - we do like a bit of good light.
Yeah that winter light is the best. We finally started to see some colour around here but we’ve had some crazy wind after the recent storms so a lot of it is already on the ground. I’m gearing up for the first frosts now😁 Thanks for watching, Tim🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I haven't finished all my summer jobs yet so I'm definitely not ready for winter yet! I think you probably had a bit more of the storms up your way, we had a fair bit of rain but not that windy here.
@GrumpyTim I was in the local woods yesterday and there were downed trees all over the place. It looked like it had taken quite a bettering, the colour was ace, but one of the main paths had been completely blocked by a fallen tree.
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Definitely sounds like you had a bit more wind up there. I got to see some floods round here where the River Severn had overflowed a bit.
It's an amazing Camara. The Mkiii is also really nice. Best carry around I own, and the flip up screen is the stealthiest. Great for candid shots. For the money.... absolutely a no-brainer.
I'm still rocking my E-M10 mk1. Don't know why it never gets any love, but it's just as solid as the ever so popular mkii! Not sure why the "middle child" gets all the attention in this family... =P
I think the most notable difference between the two is the fantastic 5 axis ibis in the mark ii. I’m not sure how good the 3 axis works in the mark i, but the 5 axis in the mark ii is outstanding. Thanks for watching 🖖
Given that I have essential tremor (sometimes called familial tremor because it often runs in families), I need that 5-axis IBIS. That said, the E-M 10 mk i is a formidable machine in its own right!!! And I have seen several recent videos touting the mk i as a budget alternative to the Fuji x100 series of street photography cameras. 📷
Had my 10MkII on a little outing paired with the Pana-Leica 15mm (but wished I had brought the Lumix 42.5), downtown Oslo tonight, first foray since I got a second hand MkIV early in the summer. Both of them are proper working cameras, and even if i do prefer the MkIV, the MkII is no slouch either. If you get a chance to try the MkIV, please do. It must have been dipped in Pixie dust or something. The output form it, in my opinion blasts both the EM5MkIII and the OM1 out of the water.
I definitely think another Em10 is on the cards, I just love the form factor. I’ll take a look at the mark iv and see what’s going on. Thanks for watching 🖖
Well, David, I have more or less the same experience. I think I told already that I gave my E-M10 MKii to a Ukrainian refugee. I am happy with that decision but on the other hand I miss the E-M10 MKii deeply. I replaced it with a bargain E-M5 MKii, but the E-M10 MKii has in my opinion a better grip and it fitted me, with all the customization i made, like a glove. Strangely enough (or maybe not) the E-M10 MKii goes for almost twice the price as i bought the E-M5 MKii for. As usual I very much liked the video and photos.
I used a em5 mkii briefly but I preferred the em10 mkii for reasons I couldn’t pin down. Thankfully I still get to use it whenever the lad isn’t so it’s not all bad. Thanks for watching, mate🖖
I'm not far from this shoot. We do live in a bit of a tip, don't we. Great that your photos see past that. There's beauty everywhere if you look with an open mind.
Aye there’s definitely some cleaning up that could be done, but for folks who don’t live here I expect a lot of it is quite interesting. I hope that’s the case at least😂
Definitely need to take my em-1 mk1 out with the 14-42 and 9-18 for a street session I think. Much a compact but hilariously powerful combo - just wish the tiny lenses were weather proofed like the body!
Yeah I love the em1 mk ii and while it’s not a massive camera it’s still way more noticeable than the em10. If the 45mm was weather sealed it would be just about perfect 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Mk1 is just that bit more compact, tied with the 12-40 pro it might be an ideal all weather street set up. Kind of wish I'd not sold my 12-40 now though 😅
I’ve never used any of the GX line. I have a GF2 which is pretty damn small, but the em10 is just a better feeling camera for me. The lad loves it too. Thanks for watching 🖖
I just found one for a good deal in the fox brown colour. I've really been struggling with enjoying my photography and thought I needed a brand new full frame etc but I'm going to try this, have creative fun and try spark my love for the photography I love again, not doing events for others. Your videos in this camera have gotten me SO EXCITED!!! Question, how processed are you images or are these the colours from the camera?
It’s a wonderful camera and I hope you have as much fun with it as I do. All my images are shot raw and processed to varying degrees. The main reason for this is that it somewhat represents what you can get from the files, rather than just what can be adjusted in camera. If you’re interested in how I edit there’s a free preset pack on my website and I often use Clearly Autumn dialed back to about 50% and use that as a base for my street edits. Thanks for watching 🖖
Finally got a good silver one, about €150, hardly used. E-M5 II used prices are OK-ish but might as well look for E-M1 II or even OM-5 or E-M1X then. Expecting it to become my main grab-and-go for most shots. Also looking very much forward to casually leaving it on tabletops while sipping espresso. With the 45mm paired with the 25mm on a Pen or Lumix for events and stuff like that. Haven't got the 12-32 or 12-60 yet.
The EM10 is a great looking camera and I have the EM1 mark ii, but I think maybe a lumix gx8 or something is on the cards for street. I like the lumix menus better and the quirky articulated evf and weather sealing sounds like a good idea. Thanks for watching 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial GX8 is sweet as long as you don't need bells and whistles IBIS (or dual IS). GX9 or GX80 probably better if you do. Both are quite rare around here though. G100 could be a photo+video sleeper if you've already got good panasonic IS glass like the 12-60 and don't need low light handheld adapted MF. Oly 45mm might be light enough to get away with most shots also. Agreed on the menus, so much easier to handle on the Lumix series.
I have video covered with the GH5 so it’s literally just a street photo camera and I don’t need ibis etc as I learned on dslrs and manual lenses so I still have relatively steady hands. Am I correct in that the gx8 does have an older type of ibis for stills but not video?
Hi David. I have a Mark IV. I love the camera. Its great, especially for street photography. Why not pick up a second one on the used market. On eBay the Mark II is going for 200-250 pounds. Anyway I enjoyed the video. I watched it twice! Thanks for making it.
I didn’t bother buying a new one as I still have access to this one, but I did buy a different camera to take its place. It really is an enjoyable camera to use and I completely understand why my son likes it🖖😁
Well I don’t know, because it hasn’t arrived yet😁 I don’t mind a bigger camera though, before switching to mirrorless my main camera was a Nikon D800 and even now in m4/3 I use the GH5 daily and that’s no compact😂
Hi, I need help. I just got my olympus om-d e-m10 mark ii and I've been messing around with it. Im leaning towards learning to shoot in manual mode, but one thing I cant figure out is how to set the exposure? it stays at -3.0
You need to up your ISO or lower shutter speed. Then the exposure will start to move towards the 0. Try taking a picture in M-mode with the -3.0 exposure - you'll notice it will be horribly lit. It's just the camera trying to tell you to fix your exposure settings.
