I was also unafraid of crashing about 2 weeks ago. Now I'm still waiting for 2 new motors, a bottom plate, and a new FC to arrive from China. I think I'll stick to being afraid next time.

I feel like soldering is such a small part of the overall troubleshooting/repair process that I'm not sure it's really a benefit to go with a no-solder build. It doesn't even seem like it would save all that much time either. The average FPV hobbyist should just learn to solder. Maybe it could help some people with disabilities that prevent them being able to solder though.
@Brian-S
@Brian-S 2 года назад
One benefit is very very fast motor changes. If your someone like me who only flies 2 quads who also runs through motors like it's nothing it can be nice in the field to swap quickly. Though I just use racewire and it's only a bit slower
@r3beatty
@r3beatty 2 года назад
As an analogy, I mess around with 1:1 scale racecars. To facilitate fast repairs in the heat of the moment, you keep spares prebuilt into complete assemblies including the wiring. Break a control arm? Unbolt and replace that entire side as opposed to messing with the individual bits. I think my next 5" will include connectors whether i build it myself, or get it from RR.
@YaboiBlkRob
@YaboiBlkRob 2 года назад
Preparing everything for soldering is one of the most time consuming things imo.. cutting wires the right length and tinning etc. The actual soldering is fast for me.
@VeloVios
@VeloVios 2 года назад
Laziness is the only reason to go solderless. There is no other reason other then that and dont say because you race you want to quick change a motor... if you burnout a motor you are out of that race and have plenty of time to solder a new motor on before the next race. Lazy lazy lazy

@@VeloVios I know how to solder, hell, I know how to weld. Doesn't mean I want to. Drones aren't my only hobby. I actually have half a dozen expensive hobbies and I work 18 hours a day, so my time is valuable.

"More money than time", a problem I wish I had. Although one of the bigger problems I have is finding a safe area to fly. I have the luxury of a modestly large side yard, large enough for some tight ripping, but if I take a turn wide and high, I'm going to have to get to know the neighbors. Especially since my kwad predates turtle mode, or if I break a prop. Burned an ESC out trying to limp it home on a broken prop - and that was back when we still used individual ESCs. Doing that one on a modern 4-in-1 would have me reaching a bit deeper - a full disassembly and replacing a more expensive full set of ESCs.
@Vousie
@Vousie 2 года назад
Agreed. One tip though - I've heard of people having a second set of PID tune values on a switch so that if your main tune is "to the edge" and you're likely to smoke an ESC/motor if you have a damaged prop, you can switch to that second PID tune for the flight back (i.e. have a very soft tune on that one).

Great philosophy ... don't be afraid to crash. It's working well for NASA Integrity Mar's Helicopter. So far has flown 28 flights, covering a distance 6,909 meters (4.29 miles) and accumulated 54 minutes of flight time ... WITHOUT A SINGLE CRASH! (yet) Not being afraid of crashing is a mindset while flying, not an excuse for poor planning, or poor preparation.

I want to stop being afraid of crashing, but the chip shortage terrifies me. Both on how much stuff costs and also the (lack of) availability of the parts I like to use. What luck! I would like to have the same thing for a weekend. but I must say one thing: you are too nice with your drones, and I understand because I am the same, but that prevents you from really trying difficult things outside the simulator. (I haven't found a simulator that fits my settings and configuration/power in order to have the same feeling as in reality..) that's why I have an Alien (old but still effective, and the Chinese frame (sorry) which is not expensive, I bought a lot of them!) to be able to say to myself: good ok you can go there and make fatal mistakes! and yes there is breakage, but it taught me lots of little things to do in order to avoid breaking expensive components. thank you for this video, the flying sites are great!

Question regarding by rpm , flashed 4.3 went to the blheli 32 flashed 32.9 set the ppm per your suggestion low to lowest high to highest to by rpm smoked 2 esc and 4 motors just trying to turttle, 2nd one just trying to take off out of 6 inch tall grass. that option might be great if your flying freestyle but for racing no good. Then I went back to default esc setting no more problems. What is the problem with this by rpm setting ? I'm not the only one smoking a lot of product which are very expensive now.

But so far #1 is the xilo 5" JB edition and no I'm not just saying this because it's the "JB" edition....it is legitimately a freakin beast of a quad! I love building rcs as much as flying or driving them maybe even more in some instances....I can't wait to build my first quad😁 the moongoat is also on that list👍🏽I don't have any friends that are into fpv so I'm solo dolo 99% of the time when going to fly😞 I need a spotter!!!! Drew cracked me up by being most enthusiastic about him cutting a wire & buying a new ESC! For real though Joshua, you were really pushing yourself. Impressive blind drops and blind maneuvers as well as many tight gaps/dives. I'm not really looking to buy a new BNF but when I am, I might consider getting one for the reasons you pointed out. It sucks how a few solder points or other annoying parts of repair can exhaust the remaining day light and essentially end your day of flying if you truly strive to improve and or push yourself and your gear. If I had at least one spare motor and an arm that could be swapped out in less than 5 minutes I would probably push myself and improve or nail some to do tricks quicker. I know it's probably on your website but were you using the latest Newbeedrone DJI face pad on those goggles? I noticed the little extra strip on the nose area and want to know if they're good. They sold out quickly at one store I was going to buy them from.

It's funny because he almost concluded how tough the build was and how few parts needed a quick replacement, but it's his friend's concept and product so he said oh yeah I clipped a few wires so I bought another esc. That's probably the only time ever that Joshua or most pilots would just buy another $50+ esc. Especially in this economy but 5 years ago when I clipped 3 motor wires, I figured out how to solder new ones on. I get it, the whole point is no soldering. It's kinda funny but nice of Joshua to buy a new esc pre-soldered from his friend's company considering how capable of fixing it he is. And it just came up at the summary of the drone's durability and concept.
