Something to keep in mind regarding Isaac's characterisation: While he didn't speak in the original, the mission objectives in your log were actually written from his perspective, and they did provide a window into what he was thinking throughout the events of the game (namely, that he was flat-out terrified).

I think Isaac talking is a huge improvement. I've never felt silent protagonists work quite well when it's not a self insert. For something like DS or Pokemon or whatever its fine. But Isaac has his own goals and mind, having him be voiced makes more sense. I get it, the first game has its own identity separate from 2, large in part to Isaacs silence echoed further by the silence and loneliness of the Ishimura itself. But for the sake of story and creating a character. His voice is a huge improvement.
@lukegregory5392
@lukegregory5392 Год назад
I also think making Issac just another guy instead of a silent bad ass benefits the game. He’s not a guy sent in to destroy the evil on the ship. He’s an engineer who is trying his best to survive this nightmare and search for Nicole

Part of what set Dead Space apart was the internal logic of the Ishimura narrative and design. Everything made sense and your interactions within that space also made sense. So different when you have the so called 'spiritual successor' Calisto creating environments for gameplay only - spike walls with logical function except impaling enemies, monsters locking themselves in chests, messages on walls that couldn't possibly have been written by anyone etc. Good old-fashioned immersion in a game world and SO important for any survival/combat horror. The savefile preloading straight into gameplay has got to be one of the coolest, most amazing QoL features I've ever seen in a videogame ever. Edit: Also, I do respectfully disagree with Isaac's voice ruining immersion. For me, Isaac's voice enhances immersion because it finally completes him as a character, as a person: no longer is he an obvious video game self-insert character attempt that gets ordered around like a gofer by everyone else, he's now a space engineer with agency, with personality. A lot of my favorite survival horror games tend to have defined characters in them, from Leon S. Kennedy to Ethan Winters to Sebastian Castellanos to LSTER, etc. I don't want to get immersed by trying to fill in their shoes, I want to be immersed by me guiding their actions and seeing how they react.

Issiac is more than than a basic engineer, as soon as the game starts you find a codex that gives you his backstory his dad was a highly respected and accomplished engineer and Issac followed his footsteps.

Cannot wait until I get home from work to play. Do you think we’ll see them remake dead space 2 if this does well?

I really want to play this remake but $70 is a very hard sell for a remake of a game. I have played through multiple times. So I estimate my first playthrough of this remake to take around 6 to 8 hours since I'm familiar with the levels and combat already, Which is a steep price point for the amount of game time you get. Going to have to wait for the game to drop down to $40 during the summer sale.

The New Game+ and secret ending stuff has me sold for replayability, but I agree the price is steep. Not because this game isn't worth it, just because games in general are hugely over priced. Like most people I'll be waiting for steep sales.

I usually avoid survival horror because I hate gameplay designed around resource starvation. I didn't know this game was different in that, so I'm going to check it out!

Im glad the turret section is gone. I always got stuck there because I’m color bind. I am sad that the steam deck version doesn’t work though

Was only slightly nervous that the embargo was so close to the release date 😬 Very happy to hear this one paid off though and cannot wait to play through this!
