Ever wonder how badly your battery will degrade if you permanently Supercharged it without following the rules for battery longevity?
Well, I pretty much broke those rules and did a test for you guys on my 2021 Tesla. I hope this help you guys get an idea of a worst case scenario, enjoy.

I do appreciate your comment, and I do agree that it's not nice to abuse the battery and then sell it. However, it's a car that I had purchased and I'd like to use it to my convenience. A car is a tool that works for you and shouldn't be the other way around. Some people like to get gas at the very last gallon, some people don't. It's purely just preference on how we treat our cars. The people buying used cars already know what they're signing up for when they buy used. You can check the battery degradation before purchasing it before entering into a purchase agreement. Is a used car going to be perfect? No way, you're purchasing it at a discounted price for an AS-IS product. I made this video simply to share what would happen to the battery for informational purposes, simply for observational purposes. 🙂

Doesn’t matter if you supercharge every time you need to charge as long as you don’t over charge. There is a guy that owns multiple teslas and proves the super chargers don’t degrade the battery more. It’s all proven and if you want the proof just search for the videos. Also people can’t calculate actual degeneration until another driver puts thousands on the car, it adjusts the range over time based off driving conditions and style of the driver. If you’re heavy footed then your range is less - fact. Used teslas are perfectly safe to buy especially if only a couple years old as they all have an 8 year warranty.

One thing to know is battery degradation occurs fastest during the first 10% of loss. Theoretically if you continued this charging habit for another year you would be at 85%. Also you can’t overcharge your battery because the BMS prevents that. If overcharging was a thing you would see phone fires probably on a daily basis.

More fud. Older 2015 Tesla model xs with Tesloop have over 400k miles on the battery while supercharging 4x a day after years and still have 88% of their original capacity. They have a graph showing battery capacity of the fleet good and bad and most of the cars fall into a very acceptable and minor range loss ever after 100k miles or more. There is nothing wrong with using 30 to 80 percent. How much are you going to drive in a day anyway. Superchargers are all over and will cover using that range without any issues in the usa, china and most of europe. We put our model 3 lr car through 110k in 3 1/2 years with some supercharging with minor loss and fill up each night at home on 220 60a in a 3-4 hours at 43 mph charging speed after driving many times what the average driver does with 130 miles per day.

I’d be more curious of doing this to a few year old Tesla. EVs typically degrade 8-10% in their first year regardless if they were only fast charged or only slow charged to 80% everyday. Degradation happens the most in the first year, then it becomes almost nothing until the battery just dies.

Wouldn't overcharging actually be like charging to 101% or more? I don't understand how charging to 95% is overcharging. I charge my phone to 100% 2 times a day it never goes below 50% used. Ive had my S20 Ultra for 4 years and have not lost any power potential. I think if EVs are going tk become viable they need to mimic ICE vehicles 100%. Meaning you must be able to refuel to 100% in less than 5 minutes and be able to drive it at full power to 1% just like a gas powered vehicle. Then refill it to 100% again in 5 minutes or less. Its been 20 years now and EV makers have not figured this out yet?? We must have a bunch of dumb engineers or greedy engineers. I know they likely already have it figured out, but are purposefully holding it back so they can make money and every few years release a slightly improved vehicle, much like every other tech company. Phone makers release a new phone every year with minor improvements, never any revolutionary, its always evolutionary. Thats why I dont replace my smart phone every year, i replace every 6 to 7 years. Same goes for my PC. I build a new PC every 6 to 7 years, because its not worth doing it more often.

Honestly. I have no complaints about the Model 3, overall it's a great car for what I've pay for. Sure, there are imperfections about the build quality and the interior road noise was definitely not up to par (if you know what I mean). Other than that, it's a smashing good deal for a whole lot of car. It's amazing as a family car or just a daily commuter. The conveniece of the supercharger network does make everything much more efficient than owning any other EVs, but when the Supercharging network opens up to other manufacturers...then things will get a while lot more interesting. It would make other brands a better buy. I personally decided to sell the Model 3 because I want a more premium car, such as the Lucid, BMW i4. I'm honestly tired of taking my car into service for the tiniest rattle sound and really didn't know how stiff the suspension tuning is. (Head boobles) But for $38,000 OTD brand new and an appreciating value of the ridiculous used car market right now, I'd take it. Especially when you're from California with crazy gas prices at a whomping $5-$6! Yes, I'd definitely recommend getting the Model 3, especially if you're from California...but if you're from other states...make sure you do the math first to see if it makes financial sense. 😟 Ask me if you have questions 🙂

@@garybean2205 oh yes, the Mercedes EQS is real nice...especially if you commute in it. I'm actually working on an EQS video right now, haha. I went to the dealership last week to see if I can order one, but unfortunately they manage to mark it up 20K. I was going to buy one on that day, but they decided to have mark up on it. I even asked if I ordered one, would it have a mark up. They answered, "we don't know what's going to happen in 5-6 months." It's a crazy time we live in. I actually didn't record any of my servicing, but I can tell you that everytime I've brought in my Tesla...they always tried to blame it on me and try to charge me $300 for something that was never my fault to begin with. I would say you really have to be good to show supporting evidence that is their fault, not yours. For example, when I took delivery of my Model 3...I had a few panels of the car misaligned, all door handles not flushed with door, AC not working and the best one of them all: paint damage." They fixed all the problems, except my paint damage. I had 3 chips on my car when it was delivered to me. I should have documented the delivery with the paint damage, but I didn't unfortunately. It was before my RU-vid days. They said if I wanted to repaint the car, they would have to charge. We had to settle with free touchup paint. Over 6 months, I've taken my car in over 20 times. After the 20th time, I just gave up and decided to sell my Model 3 and told myself I'm done with being abused. Over the past 6 months, I've been to many different dealership including Porsche, Lucid and Mercedes. And all of them definitely care about their customer service. I do have to point out that Lucid, especially really do treat their consumers like royalty. Things like getting answers to you within the hour via email, if you go to their studio they will offer you sparkling water on a silver platter, you definitely get treated like a VIP. In terms of courtesy car, 16 out of 20 times, I've gotten a Model S as a loaner. Out of those 4 unlucky times I once gotten an SL400 top down, which was a nightmare because I had the car for 2 weeks due to my Model 3 had major repair issues including software and panel realignment. If you don't mind dealing with the hassle, Tesla isn't a bad buy but you definitely have to deal with the servicing. This is just my experience with Tesla in my area, it may vary from areas. I've been to mainly Burbank, Pomona and Buena Park servicing area in California. I have no good feedback for them. I hope this helps 🙂

EV batteries are BAD for city traffic. You are driving with steady discharging for long distance, so you don't have the worst case at ALL. The temperature range in your area is perfect for using EVs. For people living in the South of the North, the hot temperature and cold temperature are SERIOUSLY bad for EV battery charging and operating. So, you case is the BEST case for a EV, not the worst AT ALL. You will expect to have 150,000 to 200,000 miles for you car. But for people in California or Canada, they should expect about 100,000 to 150,000 miles. So, they will all end up paying over $20,000 to replace their batteries after 8 years.

Internal Combustion Engine also bad for city traffic. Cost of maintainance and gas is much much higher cost than owning an EV. Even ICE loses range on hot and cold climate. I expect that any ICE vehicles that are mostly driving in city will last 100k-150k. Your engine and transmission might break and will cost you over $10k and also add your maintainance and gas. Still be equivalent to more or less $20k which is the cost of battery.

People who are pressed or worried about a 20k battery replacement after 300k miles seriously confuse me when you consider the amount of money you would put into a ICE car with the same miles for maintenance not to say any breakdowns like a transmission, fuel pumps, alternator, starters, etc and Oil changes, not to mention the costliest of them all gas especially in SoCal.
