I suspect there is a zugzwang involved here...

White's turn and he has checkmate in 2 moves. Can you solve this?

Always nice to see the king deliver checkmate by moving out of the way.

Simple ... But only if you know a mate in 2 exists in the position

Yeah it’s the kond of puzzle I might fail if I didn’t know mate in 2 is possible because I mostly stop searching as soon as I see a winning move. And there are several winning moves. They just take 3 or more moves. Which in a real game usually is not a problem at all.

This wasn't too hard, once I figured out the Queen had to go to the a-file for the discovered check after b2. An elegant puzzle, thanks for posting it.

Puzzle: 1 Q-R8! Now, the only legal moves are for Black to move the Pawns; but if: 1…PQ5, 2 QR1; if 1…PB6, 2 KxP; and if 1…PN7, 2 KN4.😀

Enjoyable. As always it took me a minute or two to get even this easy one.

This is very clever, but I prefer puzzles where the solution is the only good way, or clearly best way, to win.. There are so many forced mates in three in this position that all the thinking you need to do to achieve mate just one move sooner seems a bit wasted. That opinion probably shows that I am more of a player than a puzzle guy, which is true!

While it wouldn't be 2 turns, but 3, wouldn't Qd5, Qd1, Qb1 also lead to a checkmate?

There are many 3 move checkmates... the puzzle is to do it in 2

Terrible puzzle lol QE6 QG6 or QH6 black can only move a pawn then all three QE1 QG1 OR QH1 ARE CHECKMATE IN 2. 🙄

Sorry, you are wrong. Black will move pawn to b2 and when queen comes to first rank he plays b1, promotes to anything and blocks mate so this is not mate in 2 moves.

Just what I want from a quick fun puzzle. Looked at many of the wrong moves you mentioned, and also Qb5, and the reason they fail lead me logically to the solution.

Wrong. If white takes the pawn next to it, black can move his closest pawn down to one promotion away. Then you move the queen down and check. He is forced to promote, then the queen takes the queen with checkmate, being protected by his bishop. It’s checkmate in three, not two. The beginning queen move will get you checkmate regardless of whether you start by taking a pawn or not.

Obviously, white will win the game. That's sure. But instead of regarding this problem as a player, look at it as a puzzler. Can you find a mate in two moves (not three !)
