So as you know we've been having issues with the land rover TD5 after the Cowm quarry off roading day where the disco just wasn't starting.. and if im being honest, I almost didn't take it out on that day because I was contemplating selling it as I just dont like it as much as my old 300TDi. So when the car cut out after going through some (not even that deep) water, it just confirmed I preferred my old Land Rover and I wasnt a big fan of the TD5's.... so were are SWAPPING IT!

TD5s can be reliable, I’ve just done 4500 miles to Morocco and back in 14 days in my TD5 defender, ran absolutely perfectly, all I had to do was put fuel in it.

You should take the headliner and the carpets out mate then it’s easier to clean and looks a bit more tidier you will also loose some weight👍

You’ve done the right thing here. 300 is miles better. Run it on 20litre of veg with a little splash of red jobs a goodun. All I ever ran mine on

Glad you help the golf rather than the motorway wombles. They would have stood behind it watching the traffic back up for miles while the lads had to sort out recovery. Then the wombles would have got back into there nice warm cabin (as they wouldn't have turned their engine off) and gone to the nearest road maintenance depot and had a break from there hard work.😂

Love D1s, we had a D1 V8 was the best truck we've ever had and honestly probably one of the more reliable ones. Though fuel consumption was an issue lol and the reason we had to sell it 😢 Seriously miss that truck.

It it’s a proper Landy then kade will have one in already. Gauge is for oil pressure I think cuz he goes through a lot of water and doesn’t want that to drop

@gush teru a triple locked 80 can run 37's on stock axles and hslfshafts unlike land rover cheap toothpicks. Your shafts are no bigger than a 1 ton jimny ffs!. Also with front and rear lockers from factory, unlike a 2 wheel drive disco, and much beefier shafts they destroy the disco's off road. The 4.2 TD straight 6 is by no means gutless either. Have you ever driven one? As I have driven td5's, 200tdi, 300tdi and a 1HDT cruiser, and know which one pulls up hill better.

@gush teru clearly your loyalty lies with one brand, however @GTRpyro has a valid point about the lockers and axles. From factory the land cruisers and Nissan mentioned are seriously higher spec'd for off roading. But if you invest thay extra few grand into aftermarket half shafts, a set of front and rear lockers and transfer box rebuild with heavy duty gearsets, all of which can be done by Ashcroft, then they would be pretty evenly matched in terms of drivetrain.
