I Swear A 13-Year-Old Wrote This Terrible Anime 

The fictional fantasy story I make up in my mind before sleeping makes more sense than this...

So Adonis destroys the last tree that births witches? That makes him partly responsible for the witch genocide.

The main problem with Adonis is that there is absolutely no way we as an audience can sympatise with him and on top of that, his character is completely inconsistent. First he will say, that he knows that Chloe would absolutely NOT want him to carry out revenge, yet he does that anyway, which clearly implies that he doesn't even care about her. We also get to know, that he was budget Eren with anger issues before he met Chloe. He even deliberately targets and murders completely innocent people, justifying it with "sins of their fathers". Yes, the PROTAGONIST is past moral event horizon at episode two. Then he deliberately lures humans to witches moon base and effectively causes witches to be extinct. After he defeated human leader, he literally carved his face off, put it on his own and deceives humans that all is clear, while having a psychotic grin. This clearly implies, that Adonis relishes in it. Then he says, that he does the revenge because he must. And then he tries to manipulate and brainwash Doroka into hating humans by saying, that they destroyed last of the witches after he quite literally caused their extinction. And then author had the audacity to try and make him look like a good guy by putting those sex dolls out of their misery. I don't remember when was the last time, when I wanted the protagonist to fail so badly.

So let me get this straight Witches were good and helped humanity, and then humanity betrayed the witches, dudes master was killed in front of several humans, dude wanted to kill the King, the King got the easy way out, and then some other stuff happens, plot twist witches were evil? Man this whole story and plot is turning my head mushy.

Adonis's 10 year plan that he came up with during his imprisomment was to make a gundam sized robot to destroy the city and shoot a couple really big bullets. Which failed almost instantly. Gave me a good laugh.

Instead of killing the one man Adonis decides he wants to kill all of humanity

The issue is that Kingdoms of Ruin is apparently a manga sequel to a previous forgotten manga called "the kingdoms of caliburn". So we pretty much get an anime which is based on a sequel manga to a forgotten work that was never translated or made into an anime.

It makes *Redo of Healer* look expertly-written & restrained in its execution.

fun fact: there was this really good cartoon called "AXE COP" written by a 5 yr old that was better than most shows airing at the time. so...comparing the show writing to a kids writing is rude to kids lol.

If it's one thing I hate, it's when things stop making sense and I'm told to just accept it. I like dark comedy and revenge fantasies. *When it makes sense!*

Rather than seeking revenge against the person who wronged him, Adonis decides to become a mass shooter. Logic.

A lot of Manhua's have also been doing this thing where they justify psychotic behavior by making all the antagonists one sided inhumanly evil characters, and its one thing if like a specific antagonist is like that...but when its an entire city of people, an entire culture or what ever it comes of as cheap and lazy to me.

I remember this being one of the few shows to actually piss me off to the point of wanting to write a fanfic about it... VERY few shows have done that.

I liked how the moon battle got so bloody they were basically fighting in a lake of blood by the end. It was impressive in how stupid it was.

If this wasn't the years edgiest anime, killing off the king would be a baller move. Imagine this story if it was about a guy that dragged himself through hell, the only thing keeping him going being his goal of killing the one guy that he blames for all of his misery, only to discover that that dude died years ago and now he just has to live with that... somehow.

You wanna know something funny I just imagined? Why nobody writes a black-haired, red-eyed MC with a huge scar on his face and any other stuff that makes him look "edgy", but the character itself is very social, friendly, funny and somebody a lot of people would probably want as a friend on real life? That would be a promising premise.

Some of these animes must have been written by angry teens that got dumped or were angry that their crush didn't reciprocate their feelings.

The show lost me when he killed all the witches, like bruh just bring her back to life

It wasn't even just that it was one witch who just wanted to take over the world but she needed all the other witches dead to accomplish this

You can really notice how all rhe "Edgelord MCs' have the writer try to justify their downright evil, god complex characters, by making everyone else somehow even more evil. And often, they don't even try to have those antagonists or 'evil' *civilians* actually do anything evil. The author just says that they're all evil, while drawing some absolutely devious faces with some vague communal crime orgy in a flashback. While the MC leaves the entire town he massacred (for their lack of plastic straws) behind like an edgelord Redditor.

It's like the author tried to copy Vinland Saga but failed in every mark to write a compelling story, characters, and substantial lesson/theme.

Every season, I end up watching an anime which is horribly written. Last season was that ninja anime and this season it's this weird revenge anime.

This anime is a combination of both RWBY and Akame Ga Kill in how bad they both are. Akame Ga Kill comes off as a 14 year old fanfiction trying way to hard or be adult and dark. All of the characters are one note and hackneyed at best, the world building is trash, the art style mediocre and the writing is terrible. Characters keep on getting killed off just for shock value and have no development what so ever. I also forgot to mention that the romance between the main character and the pink loli Tsundere is forced and bad. Rwby on the other hand used to be a good show, but after its creator died, the show has gone down hill to a series of nonsense and plot holes. The characters are all unlikable, annoying, forgettable and stupid. They act stupid for the sake of the plot. Some characters have a lot of potential but end up being very disappointing. The world building also nonsensical and stupid. There are a lot of scenes that don’t make sense. The backstory of most villain is just down right awful. The romance is garbage. Worst of all, there are a lot of behind the scenes drama going on with Rooster Teeth, the company that made RWBY, that paint the show in an awful light.

I hate it when they're making story about something being unnecessary over the top evil, like why did humanity want to kill all the witches, like why? What's the reason to justify killing a creature that looks exactly the same as you and all human was just like yep that's totally justified, it's just doesn't make sense

imma be honest. I actually like edgy revenge stories like this with a lot of violence even though it seems like nowadays everyone is too cool to enjoy these. So i was looking forward to it and even liked it at first. But when he did the thing with the witches that were trying to revive chloe i just lost it. Revenge stories are nothing without a protagonist that you can root for and my guy here so dumb I want him to go back to his prison. Cool OP though.

I still scratch my head on how Adonis could replace the target for resurrection when he himself doesn't have any long-lasting memory of the person going to be used as replacement. Like bruh😩 Spoiler: Apparently Goethe might not be the one who initiated the witch hunt but it was his wife who was a witch along? She has the same powers as Doroka. I'm just basing this from the anime.

It started going pretty hard, if not somewhat fun, up until a sudden pointless plot twist that made me drop the manga and anime immediately. The witches responding to the humans brutality isn't even a bad thing. They legit forced their hands to respond in kind and fight for survival. Hell his choice not to revive his master makes some semblance of sense if you'd understand that the witches only want Chloe to train up more writing magic child soldiers. But they kinda have to, their magic legit can't keep up with humanities technology and every witch that dies is one less of the population as a whole and they're, from what we can infer, basically an endangered species at this point. But it goes from an interesting concept to erroneous murder porn quickly, and I wish I was kidding to say there are literal doujin that use this concept. I wouldn't be surprised if both the mangaka wrote such stuff before with the hilarious amount of them that originally made porn before making manga. There's a lot wrong with his anime but I feel like you kinda chose the wrong stuff to even talk about and ommited context that makes sense. Don't gotta make up shit to shit on an already mid anime

One thing I don’t understand is that each witch has their only singular power, like Doroko has love magic and her friend that clone substitution thing. But Adonis can do whatever he wants, has more versatility. It makes no sense that the witches can only do one single thing. Like how come they can’t do writing magic? Chloe supposedly taught Adonis and made the quill, but her magic was just ice magic. Then that would mean she had more than just ice magic, so why are all the witches losing if they should supposedly have more versatile magic at their disposal.

The whole anime is basically the author trying to justify terrorism.

I remember watching a Short of Chloe's execussion and thought DAMN this looks like a tragic ending of an Anime, it looked unironically sad and tragic Idk what subconscious spot it touched on me that I was almost in tears, but after knowing this was just Episode 1 I KNEW it was gonna be another dogshit anime

it totally had the potential to be really good, it had a good path made by the best path builder ever, but then the author said "nah i dont like paths, i will go through the grass and mud", and well suprise suprise a potentially good story tries to continue without a goal or a mindset or logic or nothing. Good that i am not alone when i thought it was stupid that the whole point on ressurecting the Chloe was because Adonis had like memories and stuff, ignoring the fact that still doesnt make sense because no way his memories is 100% Chloe and he knows eveything about her but ok... anyway pretending that would work, it makes even less sense that using the same "power of memories" he can ressurect a witch he knew for like 10min max... yeah

This is true amateur writing right here, instead of running straight to the king and kill him, he decided to go haywire in the city, killing innocent and also clueless people, its as if he completely forgot about the murderer of his mentor after years of being in the cell and decided to go for a broader yet impossible target instead, humans.

Yeah i had to peace out with this one when MC decided it was a good idea to intentionally get all remaining witches on the moon killed. A revenge quest is all well and good, not so much when the one doing the revenging is essentially doing the same shit to to the people that were wronged aswell for asinine reasons. I kinda enjoyed watching it but i guess its probably more because of me being like "oh whats gonna happen next" and then they pull some bs you didnt expect and thats kinda fun to see. Like sometimes you wanna watch a bad show just to see how bad it actually is or what terrible moves theyre gonna pull. Surprisingly the animation is pretty good too and i do like the art style which makes it easier to watch through too

You'd think this show is bad because it's a trashy revenge fantasy but then the author surprises you by having zero clue how to write. I was looking forward to MC going on a genocidal field trip but he just chooses to dick around the most random places with the pink haired girl.

The storyline is as consistent as my unfinished homework record- Like MAN I feel like the whole plot just decided to take a vacation to hawaii and all there's left is ad-libbing and just making it up as we go.

I won’t deny that this anime is Edgy Mess, but the plot does make a bit of sense once you realize everyone in the story is either a horrible person, dead, doomed or Doroka(girl in the cover, who’s a stupid martyr): 1)The title is in fact related to the story, basically by episode 2 the whole world is screwed Mad Max Style, so “Kingdoms of Ruin” because the place is ruined 2)The “Witches are Evil” reveal basically implies that while the witches were helping humanity they were doing it from a position of absolute superiority and bossing the humans around when it was convenient, that they exiled their greatest prodigy for teaching magic to a human means they wanted to monopolize magic to maintain said superiority, that’s why people supported the witch hunts: envy and resentment over being an “inferior race”(quickly went sideways though, since they were dependent on witches to cleanse their pollution and renew their resources) 3)Adonis doesn’t get to kill the Emperor because the Emperor is a “puppet villain” and he didn’t focus on the Emperor because he considered the whole nation responsible for the witch hunt Conclusion: The anime has some interesting ideas and themes but can’t deliver them to save its own life, it also has a bad tendency of making everything extreme, just looking at the main characters we have a genocidal maniac who hates everything and a dumb pacifist who can’t accept reality Edit: Someone already commented it below, but apparently this is a Sequel of “Kingdoms of Caliburn” and the current villain was previously the Female Lead, so maybe the story makes more sense if you read the previous one first? At 1st, I thought he’ll side with the witches because they have the same goal, but then he killed those witches and now, he just wants to kill everybody. I think it’s easier for him to just kill himself than killing everybody, also, his feelings are not more important than everybody’s lives.

I learned that this anime is a sequel story for The Kingdom of Caliburn and really stopped caring about most of it. First episodes have a lot of reveals and no real explanation and I don't see any real reason for any of the stuff involved. Like what's with the secret police... why bother with students finding the terrorist attractive... on what rules is the magic set up... why not just keeping using GAIN and firing off random bullets and converting them from 9mm to 90m rounds.

A friend requested this anime to me and I watched 1 episode because he pushed me to watch it. I made a deal with him that I would start this anime and he would start Konosuba. He watched all of it and I watched 1 ep. lol I was so bored from it and disliked it. And that he hyped it up so much even after I watched it, is for me confusing and concerning. Apparently this is a sequel I heard someone talking about how the queen is actually a main character in a different manga and this whole thing is all because of what someone did to the queen in the main story

The anime is mostly fight scenes, but the fights are fucking terrible. Imagine making an anime about magic, but all the magic is stupid and unexplained. So he can just conjure up gigantic bullets and giant robots, but then later on all he's doing is losing fights by standing still doing nothing and conjuring a metal gauntlet on himself so he can... punch people? We also see him stop and reflect bullets with an invisible shield like he's Neo from the Matrix very early on in the show, but later on he's never blocking anything with a shield and just taking hits. He literally is getting his ass kicked by a bunch of floating robot hands, and then after shit goes bad suddenly he casts a single spell to destroy all the hands. Why didn't he just do that to begin with? The biggest killer of this show is how unbelievable the action is, because there's no rules set, so it's like the writer just had to make the characters not do anything to create some fake tension in fights. We're introduced to a character and are pretty much told that he can cast any spell just by writing it, whatever he writes becomes a spell, to the point where he even brings a bitch back from the dead with no explanation that other witches apparently couldn't do but he could? But for the sake of needing fights to last more than a few seconds he doesn't write anything except dumb useless spells. Another time he was getting his ass kicked, because all he was doing was punching and shooting with a regular gun. He then suddenly conjures up a giant sword and slices half the dude's body off. Again... why didn't he just do that? All the fake danger they create in this show just by making characters not do the obvious thing until the show needs the character to win later. It just wants to get off on edgy, brutal torture and deaths before the MC wins. It just ends up making it insufferable to watch through.

Honestly don’t know why they even bothered adapting THIS manga, when it’s essentially the second half of a story. The manga is stupidly edgy and just dumb yes, but it’s kind of offset by the fact that you KNOW this is a sequel to a more fairy tail/seven deadly sins esque story and seeing how the relevant characters which were basically allies in the prequel, have been changed/corrupted due to the interference of the ‘Queen’ (i.e. the female protagonist from the prequel) in the world and how it’s drastically changed the timeline for the absolute worst, reflecting her own madness and insanity after the ending of the first story is part of the fun/intrigue. Literally every single interaction, cameo and reveal in the show (that would have at least not made it a complete waste of time) is absolutely pointless and has no meaning whatsoever as they made the bone headed decision to just skip the story that would have given this story context and just went with adapting the edge lord story. It would be like adapting a visual novel bad ending without adapting anything in the story that helped give the ending any semblance of meaning.

SPOILERS. . . . . "Kingdoms of Ruin" is actually a sequel of "Kingdom of Caliburn": Young Dorothea start an adventure to save her father from the evil Queen, "The Third Witch", together with the "Witch's Apprentice" Alfredo that want to kill the Queen for revenge... Plotwist the Witch Queen is actually Dorothea mother & a Witch from a parallel world: she came to this looking for the doppelganger of her deceased lover, since she need his head for a ritual to revive her beloved, so everything she did was just for her lover & don't care what happen in the Caliburn world. Dorothea birth was just part of the search, as the she is the "Queen double" in this world she would find the one the Queen was looking for... that is Alfredo. So the Queen beat them & kill Alfredo returning with his head to her world to revive her lover, leaving Dorothea in despair & the girl decide she will also do the same to revive Alfredo... So yeah, Doroka & Adonis story is kinda a "copy" of Dorothea story: if Dorothea wins Doroka will go crazy too, if Adonis wins then the curse of the "Love Witches" may end... Is actually like a chain of sacrifices, every one of the "Witches of Love" kill one doppelganger of their lover to revive them, putting another Witch of Love in their same position...

Yeahhh, i thought it was going to be a story of Adonis finally making peace with whatever he has left (Doroka) and realising there's no point in the revenge he wants. I really did hold out hope and hell it might do that but it just kept getting worse. Turned into basically a Kino's journey rip off for 3 episodes before deciding fuck it let's just make the mc's look even more dumb and have them suffer but not in a way that makes it impactful just a boom guess this is what's going on now then. Really just fed up with it, and cba with watching any more.

it has an amazing premise, and everything leading up to the imprisonment is amazing. but after that? it was tiring to watch, especially the mc. over and over again he was so obnoxious. his planning is a tier retarded. makes a mecha, which fails immediately. teleports the humans to the moon for... some reason. there are a few clever things he did like reviving pink hair instead of chloe. a good f u to the witches. bruh it's only after pink hair gets murked that he starts being a little kind to her.

about memories of Doroka, at least in the manga its clear that he used the memories of all the witches present to revive her.

This feels like something that someone would try to make all because they this "great" dream last night that they said was the best dream they've ever had.

It's shit revenge and genocide stories like these that made me start reading superhero comics and watching American satires instead. I'm fortunately in a much better place now.
