This gal is amazed with the gear you take ( flight cases & all with extra gear). We' pretty much do local area gigs, not touring all over like you & the band. Same issues here on smaller level. Distracting and panic for sure when gear lets you down. We do the same....have the wire cables right there to switch out. Other distractions sometimes are people wanting to talk to you while you're playing the gig......singing /doing a lead in the middle of a song ! Asking for requests /asking you a question or wanting to tell you something. (not other musicians...........they'd never do that) Folks who had to much to drink ! ! ! 🤣😆🤣🤣🎸🎸🎸 Yes....at times you're tired before you actually play the gig due to travel, set up and , sound check. 98% of the times gigs are good and fun. 2 % you can't wait for it to END ( due to either not physically up to it, gear issues, and /or drunks who want to sing with the band ) . Can certainly relate. 😊 Thanks for taking us along . 👍👍👍

Little tip for hydration. If you’re going somewhere hot, start chugging water a few days before you get there. If you start the day of it’s too late. So if you’re gonna get there on Thursday start the Sunday or Monday before. Makes a world of difference!

Enjoying your videos a great deal. I'm into my sixth decade of doing this and still not quite getting it right. Most of my serious work was in Sydney and I certainly relate to the heat. I remember doing outside gigs where the guitar was almost too hot to touch when we first hit the stage. I have exactly the same Silver Sky you have. I was going to buy the Elite model but actually preferred the sound of the SE. I bought it primarily for my praise band gig but have found myself using it more and more. No amps for me these days though. ToneX pedal into an HX Stomp XL. The ToneX provides all my amps and the Stomp the effects and does the switching. The AC30, Twin and Marshall Combo stay home and my band mates and 73 year old back thank me every time. I have actually ditched my wireless and gone back to 1/4 inch because of issues, especially in church. It's not like I'm running round the stage doing backflips these days so why risk the hassle. Look forward to more of your videos.

We played a show several years ago for about 2-3k people (a lot for us). Sound check went great. 30 seconds before the first note my bass went out. Pedal board was fine, etc. I had a teeny Kala U Bass in the car and grabbed it and played out the show. I didn’t look cool but the sound was there. Next day there I was in the paper holding that bass on stage lol!!!

Gotta tell ya Tim, been there done that with the sound check problems. It happens, but glad your technicians got it figured out, so you could put on a Great show! Yes, get a gimbo, it allows you to move around with very little vibration. Can't wait to see your world with using that. If I have a gig outside in the smoking hot sun, I'll be drinking lots of water and lemons. And some type of liquid with electrolytes like replenish or coconut water, very little beer. You gotta keep hydrated to be able to put on a good show.

There's a cool music documentary called "The Immediate Family" It's about the group of studio and touring musicians from the Late 60's - 90s that wrote and recorded with the biggest names of the time. I think it was the guitarist that toured with James Taylor that said he played every gig like there was someone in the crowd who'd never heard the songs before. So he tried to make every performance great for that person in the crowd.

Always enjoy the Gig Vlog!!! I was doing an outside gig, festival type show, a few years ago in late August. It was in the mid-high 90's in SW Pennsylvania. We have humidity like you all in Nashville. I was in the direct sun for 2 hours prior for set up and sound check. Then played a 2 hour set, again in the direct sun. No relief, brother. I remember during the last couple songs telling myself to take a breath, keep breathing. I didn't pass out, but felt horrible. Ended up in the hospital with severe dehydration. I couldn't keep up with the liquids. The show must go on, right? Keep up the great work, we love it.

Love these gig vlogs, and being with you every step of the way. I played a 4th of July gig and one thing I noticed is the guitar never feels the same outside in the heat and humidity as it does at home in our comfortable practice space and that makes some parts harder to play. How do you overcome that? The amp never really sounds the same outside as inside either. (mostly because we play louder and it starts to break up differently than at home). I guess that's what sound-checks are for, (dialing in a sound). So on the 4th, I decided pretty quickly simpler is better and gravitated to just a couple good sounds that seemed to work and stuck with that. It's also hard when you're not using ear monitors and are relying on stage monitors to hear everyone else. You have to find that perfect place to stand where the mix is right, lol. Old school, I know.
@TimAvenMusic
@TimAvenMusic 2 месяца назад
Hey thanks for watching an following along! I agree moving to the gig environment from home is a much different thing. Amp wise playing outside there isn't the walls that are normally at home. I think having a guitar that is out that is stable enough to not move a lot at a hot gig is a great idea. But playing when you're hot or cold is another factor too and something i dont like but have had to get used to. I would rather be hot than cold!

I played a 4th of July show in ‘22, they hired an inexperienced sound man for the show. He was still setting up his brand new PA he bought for the gig and had no experience or business trying to run, at sound check time. We were rushed through sound check and when it came time for show time he didn’t understand how his own system worked. I kept asking for our auxiliary players instruments to be turned down and vocals to be up. By the end of the show I had no vocals in my ears and nothing but the auxiliary players instruments in my ears. All I had to go on for the show was my click and the best feel for where we were at in the song.

Back in the late 60's our garage band played at a county fair in July. I had a Silvertone 212 tube amp, it failed a few weeks before. Under warranty they sent me the "NEW" version Solid State amp, Our band played, and the second band set up to play, and they turned it into the battle of the bands. Then the lead players amp melted down, so I loaned them mine, and then at the end the end of the gig, the guy belittled my amp as "not too peachy". What a prick!

Can you explain sometime about that AC30? I've noticed in other gig videos that the amp is facing the side of the stage (and it's mic'd, of course). I'm not used to seeing amps facing the side. Is that to keep it from affecting the front of house sound, where the PA is doing the work? Curious about that. Thanks for the video. Thanks for following along! I think the odr and tum are both great but very different. I tend to use the odr for my first step of gain, and I use it more with a single coil guitar than the humbuckers. The tum is a great flavor to stack with it, or the belle, or as it own thing when I want a little higher gain. Nothing crazy but I enjoy the mid range boost it gives.
