I’m surprised how much I like tinkering with lists and trying to fit in everything I want. It’s intimidating thinking of doing that for all the factions I want to have armies for but it’s kind of fun trying to plan out.
Hi I'm retired and was looking for something to do been painting figures for sometime but wanted a fantasy medieval force. So is it ok to have mass pike blocks.
For a Bretonnia army you for sure get big blocks of infantry - mainly men at arms with Halberds but they are mainly mounted knights. The Old World universe is quite diverse, maybe check out The Empire too as they have plenty of options for big infantry blocks. Hope you enjoy the painting and assembly and thanks for watching the video
Is there a reason why you took specifically 32 men at arms? For big blocks of infantry i'm struggling to figure out what the optimal number of guys should be per unit.
I think 8 and 4 deep is great for this unit because it can hold the centre ground and take a big charge (auto give ground with stubborn) then hopefully still have enough bodies left to hold again. Anything less worries me as feel like it will break quickly after one combat. It’s essentially in there to tie up a more valuable unit and buy time for knights to do work on the flanks
I started collecting Bretonnians in 2021 to play for 8th edition, bit of a glut for punishment collecting a discontinued army, so I'm just glad they're being made again. My other fantasy army, Lizardmen, didn't get quite the cull so models have always had good availability.
With the lance I think you would have needed to have a lance to upgrade to the magic lance as you have to have the mundane version of any weapon or armour first.
@@justinbarnes8834still not correct. You must be able to be equipped with a type of armour to get a magical version, but you do not need to purchase a mundane version first.
New player question…What is the point of having counted as charged for pursuing? The faq says it’s an ongoing combat and you don’t use lances again.. you didn’t move on the next turn of combat so you don’t get an initiative bonus… I’m kind of lost on the point maybe the rules just need errata
@@aalagerwaarda unit that pursues is considered charging. A charging unit modifies it's initiative for each inch moved prior to contact. The movement of the pursuit roll is used. Technically the unit did not charge : it did not declare a charge, nor carry out a charge move. But, since it counts as charging, for all rules purposes where a unit is checked to see if it charged, it qualifies. This counts for things like furious charge, initiative bonus, impact hits, etc.
@@tidomann You are making assumptions based on how you think the game should be played. This is not rules as written, carefully read p146. You should not be claiming an initiative bonus in the following turn combat after pursuing into a FBIGO unit. It does not matter if the unit "counts as having charged". It is not your fault, the rules badly need an errata in many instances. You can play it as you wish though as long as your opp is on the same understanding oc
Thanks for the suggestion! I will check that out - Old World Army Builder is super chunky but I didnt realise there was anything else. Thanks for watching :)
