I wonder if it’s the whole color correcting/color theory thing but I feel like Hope’s makeup looked “better” with the best selling because of the green lighting versus the red lighting emphasizing her skin tone more? I know green concealer/primer cancels red out so I was wondering if that’s playing a part in this whole lighting situation.
Can I just say how much I appreciate you showing your skin without makeup! ❤ It's refreshing to see makeup content with someone who's skin isn't completely clear. Love you Hope!
I'd be curious to see the best selling at Sephora vs Ulta best products because I feel like the clientele are so different at each place. So seeing what customer vibes are at each store would be interesting
For another comparison video, I think it would better to keep the background, table and clothes more similar. I love the idea of the red vs green but I feel like it actually impacted the appearance of the makeup as the red reflected so strongly onto your skin. *edited to add that the editing in this video is 🤩
This so much. This is when checking colour theory before using coloured lights is important too. The red definitely made the reds in her skin pop so much more and the green calms down red tones so the comparisons were skewed from the start. Even just a final comparison with a nice white light would have helped. Great video otherwise and super fun to watch.
Okay so Hope, love you girl; the idea to do a green vs red colour scheme is adorable. However, I think it's kind of off-putting to have different lighting from one section to the other. I feel like it makes it hard for us to get a fair comparison, personally.
No kidding. When she was using the Tarte foundation, I was really disappointed! She looked orange in it because everything on and around her was warm color tones. Neutral lighting and clothing would really show a huge difference between them all. I’m a Tarte girl, so I was just a bit disappointed in that
i think the sephora collection is bestselling because of how it’s more affordable in store and still has decent quality depending on the product being used
Thank you! I thought that was obvious that the price pays (haha) a huge role in what is bought, but apparently not… I think this experiment would have results more focused on quality in a store that has a smaller to possibly the smallest price gap to compare fairly
Yesssssss!!!!! I agree !!!! My fave luxury brand is urban decay !!! Tho i do buy my makeup mostly at sallys besuty . When i can afford i buy charlotte tillbury lip gloss .
Or best vs worst from where ever, but she doesn't know which is the best product and which is the worst. For example, concealer and she gives her opinion, and then they reveal which one was the best, and which one was the worst. that way, there's no bias. Not that Hope is! I'm just curious ❤
I was just coming on to say that. It was probably the only brand for black women here in the UK in the 80's. My friend wore it all the time because it was highly pigmented and flattered her skin. I'm as white as a corpse and she used it on me once and I looked like an anemic clown 😅.
lol. It was created created in 1973 by Eunice W. Johnson who also created the Ebony’s fashion fair show. The show had women of many different shades and she decided to create a line to cater to that. She was married to Ebony magazine owner. Amazing right! 🥰 love you HopScope

i know I’m rlly late but i highly recommend the e.l.f. Jelly Pop primer!! it’s supperrrr hydrating, and feels so so amazing after it’s all blended in, it’s absolutely AMAZINGGGG :)
I love that you are willing to show your natural skin, especially when you are having issues like acne. As for my makeup usage, I am not big on heavy foundation, so I like powder foundation like Bare Minerals. I really love doing the eye makeup and lips and I really like Colorpop makeup. I can't afford really expensive makeup and I am a little obsessed with eye makeup and lip makeup. Again Colorpop really is my go to.
HOPE HOPE HOPE!!!! Can u pls do a video of the best RATED makeup products (vs worst rated) instead of the best SELLING makeup products (vs worst selling). I feel like it would be more accurate to see which products are better!!!
Just so you know, fashion fair was a black owned brand that started for Black models who did not have options when they went to modeling shoots so yeah it is intended for darker skin tones, thank you for trying the products!
Favorite foundation=beauty counter skin tint foundation Primer =elf hydrating primer Concealer = Charlotte tilbury cream concealer Counter = Patrick tay the one you used No powder Blush=rare beauty liquid blush or hourglass liquid blush tint Hi lighter = jumbo highlight stick No brows Eye shadow = beauty counter any palette Mascara =voluminous jet black Lips=elf lip oil Please blow this up so she will do it
I love how real you are, especially in being open about your experiences with your skin and (going way back, to when you moved away from workout wear reviews) body changes. You may have already looked into it, but your skin looks an awful lot like mine used to. I thought I was having acne issues, tried different face washes, etc, until I saw a dermatologist about it and it wasn’t acne at all. Turns out it was rosacea and what I needed was a prescription cream. Now I just need a tiny amount of the prescription rubbed in each morning, my skin is completely clear, & I can use any other products I want without my skin flaring up. I know mine was also pretty uncomfortable (products burned, the pimples were sore, it was often dry & itchy), so wanted to just mention it so others might benefit.
I love watching your videos they are so fun! I wanted to let you know that Fashion Fair was founded in 1973 for women of color and was one of the only options we had for a long time. My Mom and Grandma used them and I did too. Like a lot of brands that were created for those of us with with deeper skin tones back then, retailers just didn't make the brand a priority. A Black business duo actually bought the brand at a bankruptcy sale a while back and they are helping re-brand and bring it back. It's like the OG Fenty and the products are amazing! Glad you gave them a try! 😊
4:01 that's a skin tint, not a foundation. So it's not supposed to be full coverage. For y'all who want to try hydrating skin tints, laura mercier one is surprisingly good!
Hey Hope! I watch you just about every Saturday once you post and binge watch you because you brighten up my weekends. As an African American woman in her (almost) 50s, Fashion Fair was created for African American women back in the 70s who had trouble finding makeup and makeup shades that ranged from lighter skinned to darker skinned women. I'm so glad that you recognized right away that the blush would be better on darker skinned tones! Great insight! Although Fashion Fair isn't sold at a lot of department stores anymore, I appreciated the fact that you chose to highlight some products (even though they were in the "worst seller" list 😢) and I hope that those women who are of color can probably bring some light to the brand again and get it back onto the "best sellers" list 😉 Keep on doing what you do and continue bringing great content to the masses! ❤
I dont think she should have called it the "worst" sellers because it implies there's something wrong with these products when it simply means fewer people purchased those than the "best sellers". It has nothing to do with the quality of the products.
The Guerlain terracota bronzer is one of the oldest bronzers, when bronzer wasn't even a thing (compared to nowadays, of course) 😊 maybe that's why is in last, people like to try new things.
I think it’s important to remember bestselling isn’t highest rated, so if something has a lot of hype it’ll be bestselling. Brands wouldn’t need to pay Sephora to be on the list, they pay influencers to hype the product and get there organically. Also, keep in mind Sephora collection items are comparably cheap and often gave higher discounts so it’s not surprising they would have multiple bestsellers.
Yes this! I don’t see anyone mentioned this, the video was fun but kinda pointless as it was “misleading” not by hope but the way “best selling” and “worst selling” is regarded as some sort of prove that something is good or bad.. the review will actually tell you if it’s good or not which should be the main focus..
Like others, I'm wondering how much the lighting, colors, etc. influenced how the makeup looked. Thank you for showing your face with no makeup, and especially how you layer it! I'm a complete dunce when it comes to foundation and all that entails, so this was a great lesson! Also false eyelashes! I've been wanting to take the plunge and you've convinced me! Great video!
Why is nobody talking about the fact that Hope didnt do half worst seller and half best seller she made two clips red worst seller , and green best seller she prefers putting more time and effort to entertain us and for a better watching experiance even if half and half is easier Thats Why We Love This Hopescope ❤
One of my favorite brands is actually Artdeco, but they are a german brand so a lot of people outside of Germany probably don't know about it. My favorite is one of their foundations as it's made for oily skin and it's oil-free. Their eyeshadows are also really beautiful! They sell empty palettes so you can just go and buy the shades you like and put them inside those empty palettes. Their blushes and bronzers are amazing too. They also sell a lot of refillable products for less waste, most notable is probably their refillable mascara and lipsticks!
Hmm, going to check online. Curious now. Essence and Catrice are major sellers here. I'm in The Netherlands, but also order my perfume often w/ you guys as Germany is way cheaper in so many things.
Total 998 $ ! 😮 The Guerlain Terracotta bronzer is an absolute french must have. It came out in 1984 ! Our mothers already had 1 in their purse. 3:12 Maracuja means passion fruit ! Favorites are Lancôme Fenty Chanel Clarins Huda and Sephora collection
I still have the Guerlain my mom used to use! I used it as blush when I wore makeup. I just have a little crumbs now and they definitely changed the formula since then and it is not as good.
1:30 - Trixie Mattel used this in her own Sephora video and later on continued to use it because she said in other videos that it really is incredible, but she admits the price is ridiculous and not sure if she can justify spending that much on primer.
I remember my mom wearing Fashion Fair in the late 70’s. I think it catered to ethnic skin tones, that’s why it didn’t really match yours. Loved the reviews ❤
8:38 Fashion Fair was super popular in the 70s and 80s as a black owned brand that specialized in shades for black women. (The chocolate raspberry and mahogany lipsticks were favorites). It was founded by the Johnson family who published Ebony and Jet Magazines. Fashion Fair has since been rebirthed.

Do any of us notice she spends thousands for dollars on each vid and we don’t even care and watch out other RU-vidrs that don’t spend a lot of money so we should appreciate her more on her vids she does it for us!!!!
I LOVEDDDD how she put the product on the bottom of the videos so if we like the product she has on if you click the bottom of the product it will take you right to the website, it’s such a great idea!!! ❤❤❤ Okayy and also she really did slay those outfits tho for the red and the green, hope I love you so much and you are soo pretty!!❤❤❤
Fashion Fair is a very old black owned makeup brand. It's been out of production for a while, but I'm glad to see it back! My glamorous, now 94 year old grandmother was the fashion fair queen for years!
Yeah true but kind sway the opinion a little bit as the colour of the background kinda ruin it, as red background does not look good on her skin even before she applied anything on her skin.. as you can see green looks better on her as it cancel her red undertones.. hopefully in the next one she should have everything the same so it not “biased” and take away from the actual product..
OMG HHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEE great vid, also i have a GREAT idea since you went to the amrican girl doll store you should totaly go to a build a bear store!!!!!
I LOVE YOUR VIDS HOPE❤❤. I don’t have a favorite makeup product but can you do another unreal Pinterest products or unreal lipglosses ❤ like REALLY shines lipgloss also I think o found your peelable candy they are called peelable I think I saw a video on it
Loved that Patrick Ta blush on you! As for our favorite makeup products, I have been using Essence Super Precise Eyeliner for YEARS. The best liquid liner I've found.
ideaaaa! hope, can you please do dupes vs original product? there are a lot of dupes out there and i’m curious to see which ones are actually better than the original product
Guerlain is a French brand and one of the best makeup ranges. In my opinion, I have been using their products for close to 7 years, I love their primers, mascaras, and bronzers!!! Fun fact, they are not "new." This company has been around since 1828!!!! I also love their fragrances. Their packaging is a work of art. This brand is the epitome of class and old-school elegance 🥰
I don’t know about you, but I feel like when she was wearing the red and the green I never noticed how blew her eyes were and then I realized how blue they are and they’re beautiful ❤
I know guys this is out of topic but can anyone of you please pray for my momma! She is sick at the moment!, i have no one except my momma.please guys pray for my mom. I'll appreciate it. And I hope this blessing will return to you as well. 😔😔🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️
Best sellers are mostly Sephora collection because they’re comparable to big names at less than half the cost. And some of the worst sellers aren’t because they’re bad. It’s because they’re not affordable for the lay person
Fashion fair brand is a very old brand that provided makeup almost exclusively to black women who couldn’t find dark foundation and lipsticks. It went out of business once other brands started making dark foundations and dark skin friendly makeup products. I’m glad the brand still exists! Thanks Hope for using their products in this video
