I think the best way to do this experiment would be to have all 12 horoscopes on separate note cards with the sign on the back. Read all of them and rank them on how the day is going. Points are assigned 1-12. 12 being the most points. Add them up at the end and get an average. I would bet that they would average out across the board. How ever, it would be interesting if a bell curve appears. I think this method would eliminate any bias, since it would be a single blind study.
I'm the exact opposite of the Aries description and every time I meet someone super into astrology they go on and on about how they vibe with me because I'm a water sign, listing all my traits. And then I tell them I'm an Aries and they're always so surprised but then they entirely flip attitudes with me. Me softly mentioning my actual sign to clarify the moment they let me interject is now me arguing with them. "See you're such a hot headed fire sign, you have to argue!!" And lord, I let them do my entire chart a couple times and it truly is just all opposite day lol. Which then I've been told 'makes sense' because that means I'm at an evolved state of my sign, grown to the point I no longer reflect my natural tendencies. So. If you're your sign description, astrology is right, but if you're not your sign's description.. astrology is also right lol. Exhausting.
YES! I swear, even with moon and rising and everything, the overall picture was that I was some hot-headed, super-ambitious s*x-fiend who is impulsive and needs everything to be new, exciting, and risky... meanwhile I've always been the Chucky Finster of my friend groups. And I feel so bad for Scorpios and Geminis who have people refuse to be friends with them just because people cling so heavily to this sign stuff.

I'm fascinated with the concept of astrology from a social psychology perspective. I don't believe anything is scientifically true about any of it, but it gets people talking and thinking about their personalities and how we interact with one another in ways they normally wouldn't. I don't love people that judge others based on their signs though, that's kind of the consensus it seems with people that hate zodiacs.
While you are fascinated, other are making some serious money off of this which is fine I just think it's funny. Also, does that exercice of "thinking about my personality" really help me? It just sounds like a waste of time and it forces me to become someone i am not...
@@therandomman1171 I see where you're coming from, I'm not telling you to look into Zodiacs for yourself at all haha. I'm not even interested in it myself from that point of view. I just find it interesting to look at from the outside and wonder how something without any scientific foundation continues to have a place in the world. And yes i do believe people who pay for things involving astrology or occult type services are paying an idiot tax, but if it makes them feel better I guess it works out.
Oh! I wrote my final paper on this for my social psych course! There's a lot of positive effects (social interactions, feeling secure and belonging, etc.) - however there can also be negative ones (judging based on sign, sometimes closed mindedness, etc.) but research shows its broadly good as long as you engage responsibly.
It's literally not up for debate... We have known that horoscopes are bs for almost 80 years. It's CONCERNING when people want to cling to things that have absolutely no basis in fact. I hate knowing that there are people wasting their brain power on trash like that and even trying to push it on to others.
My favorite way to disprove astrology. Being a twin with someone who is RADICALLY different from me. We were born two minutes apart and have the exact same birth chart. That means we should at least be somewhat similar and we aren't.
horoscopes are basically a 50/50. they use these random buzzword traits to describe people and it'll either describe the person reading or not. and a lot of those terms are generic and just will match any person, which is why you can find traits that define you in any sign
A lot of the traits I see are just things that almost anyone would align with. I saw this in another comment, and didn't want to say it there and be a twat, but their sign said they "value loyalty and stability in a relationship, and take a while to trust their partners." As opposed to all the people who value backstabbing, unstable relationships, and trust their partners immediately without question. It's very clever psychological "manipulation", to put it a bit dramatically. The rest does indeed end up being fifty-fifty. Just remember, the belief in astrology necessitates the idea that every baby born in a certain month has approximately the same personality throughout their lives, and that personality immediately ends the last day of the month and the next mass "batch" of one personality begins the day after.

Personally for me I don't like that some people are so insistent on hating certain signs and making stereotypes, but as someone who really struggles to get through my days, looking at my horoscope for the day actually really helps me, like it reminds me to be positive and a lot of the time it gives good advice! A lot of the times it's been accurate when telling me what to expect in a day, and it could be that it's vague,, idk for me it helps me get by, I completely get people who don't like it though, I used to be one of those people heavily

I enjoy astrology to become more self aware, i think everyone needs to practise this in some form! I know how I am, but it's not something I can always describe. I hate it when people stereotype people's placements

I think you are "hiding" instead of working on them and that can be bad for you but you do you. The only problem I have with these pseudosciences is when they completely take advantage of vulnerable people and try to make money off of it.
@@therandomman1171 I'm not quite sure what you mean to be honest, I've never actually seen anything that costs money but maybe it's because I'm not that deep into it,, I partly agree, I wouldn't say hiding perse though, for me it helps me face my problems and anxiety in a fun and safe way while still working on it, I don't recommend astrology as the only help to use, I'm a massive advocate for medication and therapy (I have both) but it's like, a safe space to explore my emotions, I feel more able to step out into my day wearing a certain colour for luck, maybe it's because I come from a spiritual-ish household but I see no harm in it. Obviously some people use it to manipulate and extort others but I feel that's a different conversation y'no? It really depends how you use it and what you take from it, if my chart says I'm gonna have a bad day, I'll just prepare for the worst and hope for the best, in my opinion it's made me more self aware and prepared to face day to day issues Sorry that this is rambly I'm sick so it might be a bit jumbled

I have a friend who's really into astrology, and she says she knows why you're resonating so much with the Libra horoscopes. Since you were born on March 28, your sun sign is Aries, but your moon sign is Libra. She says that your sun sign predicts your personality as a whole, but your moon sign dictates your inner or emotional self. Thus, you personally feel more like a Libra despite being an Aries. I don't believe in astrology, and I think that the extra signs are just a way to make people feel more validated, but that is an interesting coincidence.

By definition, any true coincidence, as in matter of complete randomness devoid of intention or meaning, can't be "interesting" since it only seems that way because your mind is assigning it meaning. If you are able to cognitively recognize a coincidence as such, you should be able to recognize the mechanism that causes coincidence. All that said "interesting coincidence" remains an incredibly common phrase, that isn't used literally.
I have a theory that a lot of astrological information used to be more accurate based more on food availability. For example, children born in the spring would get early spring nutrients. Higher vitamin A from strawberries, lower beta carotene from less yams and sweet potatoes. This nutritional access may have directly effected the children's brain development and followed fairly closely with when certain stars were in the sky due to seasonal harvesting and food availability. This also explains why horoscopes miss the mark for many people in first world countries. We all can access most foods year round. There may be more components to this theory like how cold and heat effect children's developing brains and stuff like that.
I would be super interested in seeing how that theory pans out because I’m a Scorpio but I’m literally the opposite.. I’m very people pleasing and struggle with my independence. But I could see how someone born in late October could have been influenced by those types of foods and having to prepare to get through the winter could give someone more of an edge.

People who have lost someone can be emotionally vulnerable and it's gross to take their money and act like you're talking to their dead mother or something

the reason horoscopes and things like tarot cards and runes can “work” is mostly psychological. they give you a chance to view your situations from an outside perspective that you may otherwise not have considered.
My sister and I are both Libras-sorry, Librans. That was cool when we were young and stupid. We loved having our birthdays close and thinking we were exactly alike. People have even thought we were twins our whole life. We would read our horoscope for fun, never to be taken seriously. Fun fact: my sister and I are very different people. Now, hardcore astrology fans would say it’s the balance in Libra. Others might say it’s because she’s on the Virgo/Libra cusp (September 24). I say it’s all malarkey!
im a cusp bday as well (Jan 21). so im an aqua right on the dot (the day is either 20 or 21 depending on what the days are said to be). i do find mine to be extremly accurate like 85-90% of the time its quite interesting.
If you ever chose to like redo this, maybe choose one specific other sign (probably an earth sign since it’s the most opposite) or do a tier rating for each sign each day (or maybe do a weekly horoscope and spread it out more) I don’t really believe in astrology stuff but it would be fun to see this with more constants.

I enjoy zodiacs and definitely see patterns, but I also don't take them overly serious either. That being said, the fact that Scott is an Aries sun Libra moon is pretty interesting considering his observation about his Libra readings haha. Although I don't find horoscopes nearly as compelling as general personality readings based on star positions and all that, which I find to be more accurate than horoscopes overall.

The greatest thing I've ever seen with astrology was from my astronomy teacher. Got 13 different horoscope readings and asked us to place them against the sign we thought it was. Plot twist. All 13 were for the same sign from different horoscope sellers. In other words it's all fabricated by whoever writes the horoscope for that day.
It would be interesting to see the rest of your birth chart. See how many of your houses are in other signs - Our Sun Sign, or the main one during the month we were born, is just one tiny part of your astrological makeup. Still, cool that you did this experiment :)
I don't know if anyone has commented because I didn't read all 529 comments, but horoscopes are probably the most popular use of what's called the Barnum Effect. It's the same tactic that "psychics" use in their readings where they say things vague enough that could theoretically apply to anyone but use the individual's own mind to zero in on how it specifically applies to themselves.
As someone really into astrology, I never read these online horoscope things 😅 I would love to see you get your chart professionally read to see if you think it resonates more with you than these
You might be a libra rising - you have many different zodiac signs depending on the planets, moon, sun, and their placements. For example I am a cancer sun (I was born 7-11) but a Pisces moon. And it goes way way deeper. It would be a cool video idea to talk to an astrologer who can look at your full chart
There's an app called Co-star that does daily personalized horoscopes based on your WHOLE chart that I used for a while when I was interested in astrology. It would be interesting to see someone do the same kind of experiment using that app because I often felt like it was spot on. (Cause apparently u have 3 Main signs??) What made me stop using it is that I was looking at it in the morning and letting it affect my day in an unconscious way (that may have made me think it was more accurate than it actually was).
I rarely check my horoscope anymore, but when I was I preferred to check it at the end of the day as a point of reflection! I never wanted the knowledge of the horoscope before hand to impact my day subconsciously
I must say that I don't know much about astrology, but when I looked up my birth chat, it was pretty accurate. That is more important because you aren't just like an Aries, or Libra. You have different signs for each like planet or something. And the signs of each planet sorta dictate how you are in certain situations and mindsets and stuff. If you read your birth chart instead, you may find that it does somehow know a lot about who you are.

But anyways, the reason science is so important, and subsequently, the reason we can trust it is because science seeks to understand what we don’t know and is never afraid to question what we do know. Scientists admit when they’re not 100% certain on details, which is why they then disclose their findings as theories, and not factual. The scientific method is highly structured as to not mislead or falsify.
It would be cool to see you do a similar test except instead of picking at random, you pick the star sign which has the LEAST amount of traits you relate to, and then see how much the horoscopes apply to you compared to your actual star sign? Fantastic creative idea on this video!

i've never been able to even entertain astrology since, as a scorpio, i'm supposed to be intensely secretive and ambitious with an 'air of mystery' around me. Those are like, the main scorpio things. Instead, i'm incredibly cheerful, overshare everything, will not shut up, can't hold grudges, yada yada. I fell into a crowd who were really into this stuff for a while, and at parties people would literally avoid me after they heard i was a scorpio. it was so ridiculous. Like, what, did they think my whole persona was some sort of scheme?
If you want to, you can check your moon and rising to get a more complete sense of personality and internal ego? But if you don't like astrology, totally fine too ✌🏾
I've had a similar thing. Hanging out with some new (maybe) friends, we're all getting along, then one of them says "oh what's your sign," I tell him, and he goes "oh no I can't be friends with you" Really didn't feel like a loss on my part tbh.
In all honesty I do follow astrology pretty heavily, but in terms of horoscopes like this, I never look at these. Especially if it’s a website that’s asking you to pay like how you’re describing. Astrology is about looking at your entire chart (which sign every planet was in and a loooottt of other information, which is all different for every person) and then looking at how the signs in your chart are affected depending on what’s happening astrologically. I’m sorry if that’s a terrible explanation lol, it is genuinely complex. I think a really good main channel video idea would be going to someone who deeply specializes in astrology (not someone who’s looking to make quick money, but someone who’s been in the practice for years and is well known/reputable) and having them do an in-depth look at your chart. Also just as a side note, whenever I do see these types of horoscopes I always relate waaayy more to what it says for my moon sign (Gemini) than what it says for my sun sign (Scorpio) I love your videos, keep creating please!! It’s just supposed to be like a weather check, or if you were at sea, knowing the currents. It isn’t predicting anything, but it’s giving you a basis from which to make educated decisions, knowing that because of certain influences, they may impact _how_ those choices play out for you. Like deciding to go for a run while it’s rainy, or avoiding a riptide. Since most people go off of their Sun sign, which is which constellation the Sun was in when you were born, they don’t realize that every celestial body was somewhere in the sky- and thusly captured there in your chart- at the time you were born. The moon, which could be in a completely different sign, or not, indicates & influences your emotional nature, the sign of the constellation rising on the horizon at the time you were born is how you initially come off to people/your persona, and everything else describes an aspect of your personality as well- which is exactly why multiple horoscopes can seem accurate to you at a time. Or inaccurate, just like in the weather app when it says it’s raining in your area, but it isn’t exactly where you are. It’s just the energetic climate of right now, and it can be an extra thing you check into just like checking the weather, before you go about your day. :) It goes even more in-depth, because in your birth chart, where each celestial body is is also one of 12 ‘houses’ that each represent different zones of your life that are being specifically influenced, and are influenced when those planets transit those houses and your natal (birth) placements, as well (which is the constant movement of the planets & other celestial bodies in relation to each other).
I never believed in horoscopes but as a kid I'd read them for fun but at the end of the day they relay on the barnum effect and give alot of just basic positive advice and traits that people have witch is likely why at least the basic traits tend to normally be accurate both because their generic and people like to see the good in themselves so if something positive is said about you,you will generally imbrace it witch likely what alot of horoscopes are and because you would generally only look at your own it hides their generic nature well
I was skeptical before looking into astrology. I'll just say 2 things, it's not supposed to tell you what to do with your life, but instead get you thinking about your life and reflect inward. secondly, we have every sign in our chart and they each effect a different part of our life
You saw most similarities in Ares because it's the only one you looked at every day. The fact that the numbers line up in that way is very compelling evidence that it's indeed a coin flip. You got as many hits from a random sampling as you did from the single sample. That suggests that no matter which particular sign you choose, you will get as many hits as you would just picking at random from the entire set.
I think my biggest flex is sharing a birthday with Scott. I didn't get on social media on March 28th this year, but happy late birthday Scott (also happy early half birthday!)

You just described most people. I would say I am very open minded and reflective, but I am also not religious and think astrology is for people without commen sense. And if you are self aware, then you shouldn’t take offense to me saying this.

I feel like the 'random' column would have been more interesting/useful(? as useful as something like this can be) if you picked a VERY different sign from Aries and checked that one every day and saw how those stats compared. Or, if I was going to do this, that's what I'd do.
