Hi Jessie. I have a MacBook Air 2012, working macOS Big Sur and Windows 11 24H2. Performance is very good from a hardware vintage. Thank you. Video is amazing.
@@webg3brasil mine’s also 2012 air (4gb ram) with macos monterey. Works good, but some apps stutters alot like Musics app and sometimes the trackpad got unresponsive and I have to shutdown using the keyboard. If the trackpad problem is resolved, then the macbook air 2012 would be perfect (almost)
HAMMER Jessie!! Wie immer von Dir TOP interessantes Video! Herzlichen Dank dafür!!👍👍👍👍 Habe meinen iMac Late 2015 27" dank Deiner tollen Instruktion absolut ohne Probleme auf Sequoia upgedatet! Und läuft Top ohne jegliche Probleme! BRAVO! Auch Update 15.0.1 no problem!
Thanks for taking the time to test and share! When presenting the benchmark results, it would be more effective to show the actual results on screen while you talk, rather than showing shots of you and the Macs.
Hi Jessie, had the same problem with my beloved trash can (nuclear reactor for some of us) running Chrome. After at least one hour of digging the net, I found the solution - disable the hardware acceleration in Chrome, Settings, System and relaunch Chrome. My workaround was to install Chrome Canary (it's working somehow), open the Settings - System, then open the normal Chrome, and blindly open the same Settings, System and finally click (blindly again, but you can see the cursor changing) disable and relaunch. I had to make both windows exactly the same size on the screen, for "precision". Maybe is not the best solution, but it worked for me and I'm very happy with Chrome, as before. Didn't try to re-enable the hardware acceleration, might be working again(???). And for everybody's info, my D700s are feeling very well! Even when running games in Bootcamp. Thank you so much for all your effort in helping us with our old Apple stuff.
now i know, fresh install to Sequoia on my MBP 15" 2016 will cause touchbar (ESC gone, thanks to Pock for bring me back ESC btn ) and Touch id not working, now i want install ventura and then install updates to sonoma-sequoia thank you for your effort, Awesome! 🔥
Great Job and many thanks for testing and sharing your Knowledge with us. I will not update from 15.0 to 15.0.1 because there is no benefit. Waiting for the next release and - that’s for sure- update after your advise. Dankeschön!!
@JessiesFlying Amazingly, it still runs the most up to date version of Ableton Live 12! So you can pretend to be Skrillex for the price of lunch at McDonald's. 😄
MBA i7 6,2 8GB updating to Sequoia now, I'm hoping the additional 4gb and I7 might provide a slightly better experience than the i5, let's see. Thanks so much for your testing and presentation. It's really helpful. 👍
My 2011 MacBook Air is already pretty slow on Monterey just barely passable, I couldn't imagine pushing it all the way to Sequoia. The upside is that it runs really well on Linux, and I don't just mean running Openbox or another window manager, it is snappy with full desktop environments like Cinnamon and KDE, though I turn off a bunch of animations and whatnot. There is enough extra horsepower under Linux to stream to the device so it was a very surreal experience to play Cyberpunk 2077 at a full 60 frames a second on max settings with a Dualshock 4 controller on my ancient MacBook Air with no noticeable delay despite using wifi for the stream and bluetooth for the controller. Sadly under MacOS no matter the version I try the screen just turns green when I try steam streaming and I get audio only no matter what settings I use. I really feel like if I had 8gb of ram MacOS and Linux performance would be alot closer, I really wish there were a way to upgrade it.
Mac mini 3,1 from 2009 working ! with Sequoia 15.0 and OCLP 2.0.2 . Then I updated OS to 15.0.1. wifi, bluetooth, usb all are working. Only for simple tasks like browsing, email, word processing etc.
Oclp Ventura with the new Safari works really well on my Mac mini 2014 . As the 4gb ram is soldered in , it struggles with anything newer , but thats Ok .
The cheesegrater cold boot time is hugely affected by the amount of RAM! When I cranked mine up to 96gb from (16?) the time shot through the roof. Everything after that is awesome though.
Hi there ! You might wanna try different sticks at different places, my 2010 dual cpu was doing the same thing, I swap some sticks around and it boots (on nvme) quite fast now. cheers
@@williamlafrance2514 - I'm running 3 in each side (dual Xeons), and pretty sure I stacked them in the right order. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it takes a LONG time to boot. Just that it takes LONGER to boot from when I only 16g's, so that factors in.
The 2013 trashcan mac pro had the Chrome issue since Sonoma 14.6 I think. It does freeze but is not totally unusable. I usually have to quit all the chrome processes and wait a bit to get Chrome to work. The graphics acceleration setting in Chrome doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Once I have it working I make sure not to quit HAHA
12:49 I had the same issue with macOS Sonoma on a 2013 Mac Pro, what happened is when I launched the app for the 1st time nothing happened, I used it like normal, and after I closed the app and turned off the Mac Pro it started to glitch like that, I couldn’t force quit the system at all so the best way I could get out is a force shutdown
After a mistake with Ventura (stable and efficient), I had to reinstall the operating system using OpenCore Legacy Patcher 2.0.2. I thought Sequoia might work on my Mac Pro 6,1 (Trash) - 3,5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5 - AMD FirePro D500 3 GB - 64 GB RAM. After a clean installation without issues, I followed the instructions up to the post-install root patch. The Mac seemed to function well, at least for the first reboot. I also installed some utilities and enjoyed exploring new features. Everything seemed stable. However, on the next reboot, after a few minutes, the Mac would freeze, displaying the spinning globe cursor until it completely locked up. After several attempts, where the same problem occurred (stable during installation but crashing in subsequent reboots), I tried installing Sonoma, but the result was the same.
@@JessiesFlying Yes, I believe so. It's likely that the AMD FirePro D500 3 GB graphics card is not well supported by OCLP. Also, I noticed that the problems arise right after I connect an external 1TB drive to update it - and this was also a bit troublesome with Ventura. Thank you for your constant generosity. Best regards!
Running Sequoia 15.0.1 on a Late 2014 Mac mini 2.6 GHz. i5 16 gb ram, 500 gb SSD, no problems as far as I can see all is working well, CPU is running a little hot so installed fan control.
The 2013 and 2014 MBAs works just fine when they have 8GB of ram... the i7 versions handle many tasks faster than 2015 13" MBPs because it pushes way less pixels with the non-retina display. That said the i5 versions are significantly more sluggish than the i7s. Another thing to remember is that the SSDs in the air are slower and there is a difference from 2013 to 2015, so for testing how they compare properly, you need to upgrade the air SSDs. An i7 MBA 2013 with a fast 4K NVME ssd can boot Sequoia to the login screen in less than 50 seconds.
@@OPM_Viking I chose the OpenCore screen to prevent the automatic wait time to be included in the boot time. And the Mac Pro 2012 for instance has a way longer time until the OpenCore selector depending if a SSD or NVMe is installed
I really appreciated you do all this work, spending many hours and days, to bring us useful info how to upgrade our 'EOL' devices. I watched many of your video's, but I didn't recall that there was a video on upgrading an earlier install of MacOS where also OCLP was used. So what are the steps to upgrade i.e.Monterey to Sequoia? Can I just use the upgrade function of the MacOS, or is a complete new install necessary?
@@tv175s3 yes, simply update via system settings (after having installed latest OCLP). Check my video here (I’m updating the Mac Pro): Tips & Tricks to install macOS 15 Sequoia on UNSUPPORTED MACs! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uxC_pCm7pzA.html
...and me again ;) Jessie, I downloaded the 15.0.1 installer as well as the new matching(!) metallib package, which I installed first. After updating to Sequoia 15.0.1. I patched with OCLP 2.0.2 but it seemed to still use the metallib package for 15.0. So I deleted that from the Dortania directory and patched again. This time it used the correct and only one available on my machine. I wonder whether this was the correct procedure and if you can please tell us something about this next time i.e. if and when to delete the previous metallib packge, etc. Thank you so much for you extraordinary efforts.
Loving the channel I have a 2013 TrashCan MP and I have exactly the same thing occur with Microsoft Edge come in all red as you found. This follows as they are both chromium-based browsers. Interesting opera works just fine. I also suspect the OCLP chaps need to look at the graphics drivers, I have noticed a degradation from sonoma in terms of image quality.
G and I m afraid to install it on a M1, like people say overheat even with lid closed, bad ram management, what else wifi problems, bluetooth problems, don’t know how good battery is
Issue with the Chrome is from OCLP 2.0.2. I'm still on Sonoma and after OCLP update I got the problem with Brave and Chrome you've described in the video. Hope they gonna fix it in the next update.
good one.... but U do not possess enough Macs..... just got a 2011 MacBook Pro 13" .... tried sonata .... Ventura.... it wasn't working acceptably .... I recommend MONTEREY .... that's just about fine....
I’ve got macOS Sequoia on my computer a 2017 MacBook Air, the only issue is it doesn’t like my USB C cable for my iPhone I’m connecting it via an adapter
It would be interesting to see how much better the weaker machines could get when they they are paired with an eGPU to provide metal and other graphics related enhancements, and compare them the original results.
Jessie, one small question/request: could you also add an old MacMini to your fleet, so that when you're doing these tests you can provide some feedback on them as well? I had some problems after my recent update to Sequoia, in which my Bluetooth stopped working, but after a few reboots it started working and I was relieved. I'm running OCLP 2.0.2, and now I'm being prompted to update to 15.0.1 and Idk what to do. Btw, I like your channel so much and it's very helpful in keeping my old MacMini (late 2012) up to date. Thank you!
I am finding after some time with sequoia that my mbp retina mid 2012/ early 2013 is a little slower with sequoia. It’s 16GB with sata not nvme. It’s useable but i am thinking sonoma or lower maybe better for me.
Just upgraded my 2015 MacBook Pro to Sequoia 15.0.1 with OCLP 2.0.2. The good news is all my Win10 black windows are gone and Win10 is back to normal. The bad news is launching Safari paralyzes the Mac with high memory pressure (with 16G of ram!). The entire machine is virtually unresponsive if Safari is open. All other browsers work fine and the Mac runs Ok but slightly slower than with Sonoma. What the heck is going on with Safari? If I can manage to close it, the machine works fine again.
I updated my unsupported imac 27' and mbp 2012 from ventura to sonoma & even tried sequoia... And what a mistake!!!! ..... Issues with WiFi, Bluetooth and sluggishness..... I have to painstakingly install it back to ventura.... Never again
Hi there .👍thank you for your videos and clearly explanation👌 in each videos. By the way, I have an issue. With my iMac 2015 to run macOS sequoia 15.0.0. Please help me and how to do with this problem. I'm looking forward to your answer So the one way is I think the problem is from of keyboard or mouse, right click, left click or keyboard's shortcuts's?...🙏
Hi Jessie, It just so happens that I spent the last two days with your videos. In fact, for 1.5ys I run smoothly and efficiently Big Sur on a macbook pro 6,2 15" mi-2010 intel core i7 2,66GHz 8Gb ram with intel HD graphic and nvidia gt-330m gpu. I know from you the non-metal issue but I wanted to try again with Sequoia and also Sonoma with OCLP latest version. Why not😅Unfortunately I have never even been able to test it as it is impossible to reach the desktop without repetitive crashes after installation. I tried all your tips and the only way to reach the desktop was to follow your instructions with your terminal commands "mount -uw …bless…-last-sealed-snapshot etc.". But even after the DKP installation etc. No improvement. I assume there is a link with some features inside the OCLP that doesn’t work with this model😢. Do you think there would be in the future a robust solution for all the old macbook pro pre-2012 with non metal graphic cards to run at least ventura or sonoma? Thx
@@upinthesky63 it’s been a while since Ventura that the possibilities of the pre-2012 Macs are getting less and less, so I think they will have to stay with Big Sur…
Looks like newest version of Chrome is not working on Open Core patched Ventura on Mac Pro 2013 either; nor does the newest Brave Work. So it is a Chromium issue
I have sleep and wake failure when using sonoma/sequoia. Basically, it sleeps the display and never responds again. The display somehow sleeps with its display shining bright. I saw 4 GB sonoma videos that run normally, so i took the risk and this is what i get. Wallpaper doesn’t load at all in sonoma. Sequoia shows a sequoia tree image but in safe mode, it doesn’t load. Why is the display is running but turned off?
I see you tested the MacBook Pro 15" touchbar 13,3. A number of us find that there are iCloud login and iMessages crash and hang problems with the 13.x series. Did you check that? Sonoma 14.7 and earlier had no such problems. Since the issues were found with both OTA and clean USB installs, I wonder if your tip about installing Ventura first might fix this issue too. I'll try and feedback the result.
I can confirm if you un- install chromium browsers and install the 128 version of the browser. Then disable the "Hardware Acceleration", then upgrade to 129 version of the chromium browsers, it will run fine

Hi, I upgraded my Sonoma to Sequoia on my Macpro 2012 5,1 it's heavy and slow, i try it for few days, I think the reason every year we apdate we need GPU so i think AMD 580-590 it's become slow for new tech resolution, I don't understand why the OCLP does not update the GPU drive so we can use the new AMD 6900 or 7900 !!!!! now i go back with Sonoma much better and faster.
@@binomair9326Drivers for newer gpu in macos 13 or later requires AVX2 capable cpu which the mac pro does not support, it is a hardware limitation ,not fixable.
A while ago, I tried twice to install Sonoma on my iMac 2017 5K with Ventura. I installed an internal SSD, so with merged NVME is 1.03TB, and as you said no wifi. I did the reinstall root patcher. Nothing worked. Wiped drive I am running latest Ventura. A bit scared to try again.
With Sequoia (15.0 and 15.0.1) the only glitch I have on my 14,2 Mac (27" late 2013 - OCLP 2.0.2) is that "objects" such as Airtags in the Find My App don't get updated at all (devices and people work). On my iPhone (iOS 18.0.1) all fine. Jessi, do you have same issue on your 2013 MacBook Air? Impossible to say for me is this is a MacOS or OCLP issue...

Hi Jesse, Just to start, I am new to this and I would like to say how much I appreciate all your videos about unsupported MACs. I have update several old Imacs and my old MBP 2011. Currently having a problem with my iMAC 13,2 late 2012 when trying to install Sonoma or Sequoia. After update the OCLP 2.0.2 on MacBook Pro 2017, Facetime/Camera not working on Sequoia OS. How can I fix it? Jessie, could you help me see how I can fix it?
@JessiesFlying: Can you include the macbook 12" 2016 or 2015 models 8,1 and 9,1 n your testing for Sonoma please ?. To share my experience, I was successful in upgrading all MBA 2015 to Sequoia so 100%. But I have a lot of problems upgrading to Sequoia from Same Os 14.7 in half of Macbooks 2016, 9,1 so only 50% successful with lastest OCLP 2.0.2 in Macbooks 2016. Even after so many ways of trouble shooting, Among Macbooks, the worst is Macbook 2015 had to restore to El Capitan to get normal function of Macbook 12". Macbook 2015 is the worst to upgrade to Sequoia, it was in 14.7 but I had to restore to 11.10 which is El Capitan. The thing is MBA doesn't have ethernet but they can be upgraded to 15.0 from 14.7 using OCLP 2.0.2. Macbooks has ethernet connected via adapter to USB-C and I have downloaded correct KDK and metallib versions but they couldn't save the macbook to upgrade to 15.0. Can you give me a possible reason please if you can figure it out. I have it upgraded to Big Sur after restoring to El Capitan which is the original Os when I bought the macbook and it has stock metal GPU from apple and it is eligible for support by OCLP per dorotonia website. May be a poor luck or because of slow mobile CPU of the macbook ?
Hi! I have an iMac 27" from 2015 Fusion Drive 1TB (120GB SSD) with 24GB of RAM and 4GB Skylake Video. I would like to know if macOS Sequoia works 100%, including all native apps. Thank you!
I install Mac OS 15 on my 2009 imac with ssd, I7, 16 gb ram and a rx 480 and this Maschine don't run bad. In think 8 gb ram are the absolute minimum modern Mac OS need's more ram than Windows 11.
Thank you for this video, the think is I have macbookpro 2015 but 8Gb and i5 processor. It is not the same you use in this test, do you think it is OK? Less ram, less processor.....
Hi Jessie, do you have anything to tell about MacBook Air 2019 model? I was literally cheated by Apple. I bought it directly from Apple in mid 2020 without knowing that it was the 2019 model and then refused to upgrade it to the 2020 model. It was the first model to use an Intel chip. My research showed that why I can't update to Mac OS Sequoia was that it had a T2 chip.
@@mgoksoy yeah that’s a big mess, but the devs of OCLP still have no solution why it causes kernel panic due to removed support… No solution yet, so you still have to maintain Sonoma

Of course I can easily install OCLP on a new drive but i want to switch my ssd pci boot to an nvme pci boot drive and copy all my working files and programs. For example, I don’t want to have to reinstall MS Office or recreate all my preferences and safari bookmarks. Thank so much if you can do this for us. Only semi related to the topic (but that's never stopped anyone else before!) - Have you noticed that Fusion has stated that after March 2025, it will no longer work on essentially any of our OCLP machines?! Paraphrasing: If Mac OS didn't come out for your hardware, we won't let you run it. 🤨🤬
@JessiesFlying - IF you're in touch with any of the Dortania (etc) folk, ask them if they could make a 'fusion patch' in OCLP to fake out the hardware vs software issue maybe?
The Macbook Pro 2013 cannot play RU-vid DRM videos on safari; in chrome the image stays black under the default windows size, the video is plays well in full screen including DRMs. Preview is super lagging when opening PDFs. Interestingly, Windows 11 works perfectly fine on these old Macs. Also, Windows worked better on these macs ever since Bootcamp was a thing (volume control over mini-port).
