Use my referral link to buy a Tesla and get awards like 3 months of Full Self-Driving Capability.
This electric car always says that it can go 300+ miles when fully charged, but I find myself charging my Tesla way more often than I would if it actually went 300 miles on the single charge.
So I am here to test if the range is a lie, if Tesla shows wrong charge to you, and if you are deceived by what it shows. I’m going on an electric car road trip to see how often I’d charge.

You need to read up on what those EPA rated range numbers mean. Your car will achieve its EPA rated range - for as long as you drive the way the Model 3 was driven during EPA range testing. No lying going on here. "Do yer reesurchhh."

Battery miles are not the same thing as road miles. Range is affected by many factors, including vehicle speed, terrain, wind, tire pressure, tire choice, outside temperature, and more. EPA range testing is done under very specific conditions, and it's unlikely that you will be matching those conditions exactly. Gasoline cars are affected by these same factors, but drivers are less aware of range because there is not an accurate way to measure gasoline consumption. The best way to measure an EV's energy consumption is to look at the average consumption in watt hours/mile.

Rated range is in EPA cycle not Tesla made up range. Its about 50 mph test not highway range.
@mjlef1
@mjlef1 8 месяцев назад
range estimates are calculated assuming 65 mph. If you speed, you get less range, just like in a gas car. AT 75 mph you should get about 33% less range than at 65 mph. Range drops by the square of the speed, so 85 mph vs 65 mph is a 70% drop in range. This is mostly due to air drag. I also suggest following the Tesla advice about directions and charging, since it takes into account how busy the superchargers are, temperature, battery state, traffic, etc.

1. Tesla is not lying. Range is set by the EPA. 2. Range is a mix of highway and city driving, not only highway. 3. Temperature, speed, wind, elevation, rain, snow, battery age, all have some effect on range.

Been driving a 2021 m3 and I find it to be spot on except in the winter. Just yesterday I had my first scare and was fighting record winds which killed my range 10% more than expected and I arrived with -5% so there is a life saving amount of backup in there beyond the projection

I dont usually comment. But i got my 85d in march 2015. What speeds are you driving? I still get very close to the rated range in summer?? Speed equals more wind resistance? Its logic for everyone?

All this "Tesla Range lies" videos don't look at what the range in a Tesla means. Rated range is EPA range, which is the same testing for every car. Tesla always displays Rated Range on the displays, not a Guess-O-Meter as its common in other cars. Opinions are split when it comes to this, but I actually prefer it. With the GOM I can't trust the range figures. Im deep in the "EV-World", and have a fair amount of experience, so I can calculate my remaining range on the percentage or indicated, but it takes time to get used to.

Yes. If I ever got an electric car it would be for local commuting only and I'd have a second car that I would use for road trips, or even just rent a car for those. That was a big reason people criticized them in the early days, range anxiety. Turns out they were right, but if you only drive them locally they're better than expected there. Also, I think when they rate their range they do so at much slower speeds than even the 70 mph you were travelling. Probably 55-60 mph if I had to guess. You might even be able to save yourself time that way because that would mean fewer stops. Even though you're travelling at a lower rate of speed, you get farther between fill ups so it's offset significantly by less time waiting to charge and driving to and from the charging station. It would be an interesting experiment to see how that pans out. Seems like your range is absolutely horrible thoughy, to the point I'm questioning whether something about your car is in disrepair. I'm no expert though.

I’ve taken it in, and it’s perfectly fine apparently haha. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t given its 6 months old. Texas speed limit is 85, so when I’m at 85mph, I tend to use insane amount of electricity.
@adrianguggisberg3656
@adrianguggisberg3656 8 месяцев назад
@@PashakYeah, but Tesla doesn't rate the range based on the Texas motorway speed limit. Insted they use the test cycle required by law. Like everybody else, btw. To make matters worse, the test cycle is intended for petrol cars, not EVs and thus makes no sense whatsoever. The range calculated by the navigation is usually pretty accurate tho, so you can simply use that.

I have been driving a model 3 for only a few weeks now and my estimates are pretty good and it tells you exactly how to change your driving behavior to get better range. I am assuming that the EPA range is based on 65mph on the highway and not using any heating or cooling. Going 70mph will reduce your range by like 2% I think. When the speed limit is 70, there isn't really a way around that. But at least the car knew when you needed to stop to charge and didn't leave you stranded. When a gas light comes on in the car, you have no clue if you have 20miles or 50miles of range left. I have ran out of gas many times over the years.

The claimed range is based on the idea that you are going at something like 50mph. 75mph has probably about 2x as much air resistance.

It's not a lie.. Just not "real world".. Drive 55mph on the flat roads of Iowa in the early fall Eastbound with a tailwind.. You might get better than advertised range.. See, NOT A LIE.. They've already developed a Tesla with nearly UNLIMITED range on a single charge!! I think it's orbiting Mars right now...

Nah, only Tesla had to drastically reduce their range after EPA updated their standard. Meaning Tesla was the only EV manufacturer that lied about their range.
