I don't want to pile on. But around 18 months ago i completely stopped buying from the Royal Mint. There's too much trash being pumped out, silly prices and their attitude towards milk spots has driven me away. They really need to streamline and focus on quality, prestige and show some pride. Until then ill be focusing on other purchases.

When you're paying like ten times spot per ounce for proof coins, the quality needs to be top notch. The RM doesn't seem to care, listen, or implement any meaningful changes though.

The Royal mint always did over charge. And all the rubbish boxes oak boxes they put with their coins. Its the coins you want, not the rubbish boxes they put with it, which is the excuses they use to overcharge.

I am so sorry but they diserve a Boycott only for the milk spots alone. How can we be a sophisticated community, when our Mint is rubbish itself? I think I said enough...This makes me so annoyed...Thanks for sharing my friend.

I saw the clip with the director saying we are an unsophisticated community, I don't think he meant that. I think he used the wrong word. In the context of the conversation it was about how established our stacking culture is.

I think he meant that the UK silver community is undeveloped, mainly due to the presence of VAT, and it puts the focus towards gold.

I stopped buying British Milk Maids. I put away 7 sets of last year’s releases as Christmas presents, and when I pulled them out to wrap they were all spotted. 🤬

Older lad here from Ireland. Only buying 3 years now. I came into this thinking with the heritage of centuries, the very name Royal Mint would be a guarantee. I was surprised to hear these issues. Gorgeous designs though, that 5oz is superb. And 1 oz Brits are good value.

I really did come close to buying these on release day but what stopped me was the fear of the milk spotting that the royal mint are known for. They are the most beautiful silver coins they've produced in a long time. Gutted not to have taken them up but i could never have been comfortable with thrm.

Premiums need to be similar to the USA (50p-£1). Oh and VAT on Silver Money is ridiculous.

We don't blame you. You've been extremely consistent with your reviews your critiques and your assessments, as you've been a consistent valuable member to this community, yet the Royal Mint has lost a lot of that consistency and we have no idea if it's just because of poor management, new management, or both

A stunning coin in hand, I bought the 5oz and 2oz gold. Had to send the 5oz silver back though, due to the sate of the edge inscription. Fingers crossed I get a decent one back. It's getting very tiresome sending almost every coin back due to an obvious (by eye) defect.

Although I enjoy my Queen's Beasts-- after seeing such a HUGE percentage of the Britannias of the last few years milkspot, it makes me want to stay clear of Tudor Beasts... I'm just not taking that risk. For that matter, I don't really want to take the risk of any more Britannias milkspotting. I've switched over to Silver Maples as my "main coin" to stack. The RCM seems to have things figured out. Anyway, keep up the good vids!

It is indeed so sad to witness the RM's demise regarding their strategies and practices which come over as highly contemptuous towards customers. Attitudes like that stem from the top of their company and filter down! Also when things come over as being done well, that too stems from the top! So come on RM, be consistently good, maintain your previous high standard and ditch the 'grab and run' tactics which are evident today. I hope RM's reputation means as much to the Board and staff of the RM as it does to your customers?

Those 2 coins look awesome! Not sure when Milk Spots start..don't think so....LOL I have stopped buying from the RM! I did order that 10oz SD Bullion bar but that's it for now..

Absolutely agree with you 100%. Acknowledgement of an issue and seemingly now willing to engage is tremendous, and I hope with everything of my being that they do follow through. Constructive criticism IS well meaning, and I want our Royal Mint to be the envy of the world and something to be proud of. The community need you on the Royal Mint Advisory Committee 🤔

Lets put it this way, i used to be excited about a RM delivery and now its just apprehension. I fear we are just not important to them and we should be grateful to receive anything. Yep, my Five was awful and only a blind man would have passed that in QC.

Will no longer be buying from the Mint. Customer service is severely lacking and quality control needs a complete overhaul. As a modern day special sovereign collector I’ll still pick up special proofs as and when they are produced but will procure thru third parties

Love your content. I haven’t purchased a great deal from the Royal Mint. Just a tube or two of Britannia’s and just last week, two 10oz Britannia’s (which are so hefty and gorgeous) I agree that they make outstanding products, but is way off base in many facets of its business. I am hopeful they can address those issues going forward. In the meantime I’ll have to look elsewhere (American Silver Eagles and Canadian Maple Leafs) I’m a bit surprised that the process being used by the Canadian Mint for milk-spotting (white-spotting) isn’t shared with the Royal Mint.

Those are beautiful coins! The Royal Mint, in addition to producing a lot of innovative items, includes very elegant packing. Their packaging is far superior to that of the US Mint.

Only caveat on the yearly Britannia’s is that the costs would be so much higher, for example designs that change each year in Perth mint are more expensive. You need a my least a bog standard design so that those who want to stack cheaper can hence the kangaroo, standard design just dates the year and keep the premium low, but then you have the unique year designs on the other coins e.g koala, gold roo, etc

I wonder how much effort is actually involved creating coins nowadays as mints constantly churn out new designs. An artist still has to create the image to engrave on their computer, but the engraving and everything else is probably done by a computer controlled robot. The coins can look great, but I think having continuous limited editions detracts from desirability and does not justify an inflated premium. Using a fancy box, that I don't care about, does not make owning them more attractive to me.

Well done BYB, I get that you don't want to just moan incessantly about the Royal Mint - it's boring and not the raison d'être of your channel and won't help to build it. However, the flip side of that argument is that if the Mint won't acknowledge their failings, engage with their customers and communicate what they will do to improve in the future - then our only hope is that high profile people like you will continue to hold their feet to the fire. Pretty please! ;-)

Excellent video again, have you seen the video in the week where someone from the RM was happy to go onto two big American stackers video, and basically say how there is not really a sophisticated stacking community in the UK, may have been taken out of context giving him the benefit of the doubt or at worstjust another sign how little they think of their own customer base. Agree with a lot of what you say, such a great history and yet they are really speedily majorly tarnishing that.

Looks like they have done well with this one. I love the Great Engraver’s series. I really liked the Petition Crown though was upset when months after ordering the 5oz set they just decided to can it. Also the rim printing was crooked on the 2oz which was a bit frustrating. I haven’t received my version of this new design though I am hoping it has been quality control checked before posting. Glad your versions are ‘Mint’ 😂 condition. It’s positive that the RM are listening and communicating with you. Appreciate all your hard work and commitment on this subject. 🍻

Normally i do not buy from the Royal Mint UK. Exception Libertad and Britannia bullion recently. For me the Perth Mint is way better than the Royal Mint UK for the quality of the bullions.

They have not publicly announced it. But they have confirmed in email replies to me and many others it is paused. I am trying to push them to actually communicate this out to eveyone.

You're dead right, ByB, from all angles when it comes to the Royal Mint. Right there you have two absolutely stunning coins, works of art, beautifully presented by the supplier. Then, there are the other general issues you speak of, and are now literally campaigning against as you declare this may be your final purchase from them. The fact that the Mint now acknowledge they have problems is a mighty victory for you and it's quite incredible to think that through your Channel alone you may well have hit a nerve. The only problem you know face if you stop buying from them, is that you won't really be able to be critical of what comes out as you won't be receiving any of their work. Don't ever think that you're becoming negative just because of your criticism. The criticism is fully justified and the whole community out here is glad you are giving them a bloody nose ! Us cool kids and ramblers appreciate what you're doing, we really do. You've jabbed the Royal Mint, they've become a little unsteady on their feet, so don't stop jabbing !

Backyard you would make an excellent stand up. Just a thought that might bring you back, take Edward Vii reigned for 9 years died at 68 suffered ill health for most of his reign, George Vi died at 56, George V died at 70, Charles is 2 years in and is 75, currently is being treated for cancer (form unknown to the public) So the odds are stacked against a long reign. So I foresee a potential change and a longer reign William being only 41. Don’t shoot the messenger the above are just observations on possible numismatic opportunities. Love your Ramble.

Thanks for the comment. My advice to someone your age is to not buy silver but instead buy gold and then as soon as possible buy a house and start a private pension scheme. Gold and silver are not the best thing to have for your whole life.

What's the difference in these trial coins other than they are slabbed? It is the royal mints own version of slabbed coins? I hope they are not graded by the royal mint if that is the case , we have all seen what they class as "fine" 🤭

@@BackyardBullion 😲 for that price I might go for a Three Graces 2oz which has been selling for around £500, one even sold for just £250 on ebay recently a big climb down for what they use to go for now the market has cooled.

I've never been interested in the modern none circulated "collectable" coins. For me, there is no point to them and I just see them as expensive bullion.
