Did max intend to drive Lando off there though? It looks to me that he knows he has a puncture and is trying to get off the racing line and then notices Lando is trying to over take and leaves extra space after. I think though whole issue with the drama here is there wouldn't be any if people outside of the cars didn't assume intent or what the drivers knew at the time. Racing is quick and decisions are made in an instant. Also, it was a small touch that had massive consequences. That move has been done time and time again at this track, but usually the outside driver gives room and goes wide (because there is tarmac to drive onto). If Lando did that, and done a switch-back there wouldn't be any drama here. Just like when Lando squeezed Max onto the grass last race off the start; there weren't any calls of dirty racing or how Lando needs to get a penalty or apologize, because Max took to the grass and held on to survive the rest of the race. It takes 2 to tango and I think everyone needs to just take a breath and stop being so reactionary. Also can we all stop putting our hand to our chest and acting like this is a bad thing. The craziest most chaotic year of racing we had was 2021 and it was amazing. This is exactly what this sport needs, more action, more wheel to wheel moments, some resulting in drivers losing out and some gaining. Entertainment is the name of the game and that was entertaining to me.

I'm a huge Lando fan, but I did sense a little desperation in moments. Same as with Max in his defense. They both made questionable moves, it just so happens one of Max's moves cost them both the race. Could have just as easily been Lando doing so on one of his dives inside. People have to remember, its much easier to judge from the other side of a monitor or tv screen. These guys are doing something most of us could never handle in these cars. It was exciting for sure, and yea technically it was Max's move that ended things, but as a Lando fan I don't hate the guy for it. Its exciting for the sport, and for the fans. Another side note, though the fan rivalry can be fun and passionate, it still should remain respectful the same as everyone is griping about with the drivers and how they drive. Doesn't really make sense to be unhinged and disrespectful towards others in a debate about which driver was more "unhinged and disrespectful" in the race ya know. Looking forward to next weekend for sure. Hope to see more tight battles there as well.

Isn’t max just trying to get out of the way of the alpine?

What angered me most is that they gave Lando dotd instead of Hulk or Kmag, really made me laugh seeing him dotd.

Initially I thought max was being petty when he crossed across the track and pushed lando in the grass but its also possible that he was just getting off the racing line because he had a puncture. Obviously he should have checked where lando was in his mirrors before doing so but I guess that happens with so much adrenaline flowing. The main thing is perez was still 17 seconds off max inspite of him getting a puncture and a 10 second penalty. I don't understand how that man got a 2 year contract extension.

So last week it was all jokes and funny when Lando couldn’t get the tape measure out and ran max off but this week it’s the crime of the year?

The more I rewatched the battle, the more I think Lando lost any patience after first attempt, as a combined frustration of not winning in last few races. Would he had more experience of those battles, he had much higher chance of winning. Also they were really lacking straight speed

This was such a small impact that we’ve seen countless times, and while it’s sad it resulted in both drivers losing the race and Lando DNFing that’s racing. When you have two drivers going to war for a win inevitably these incidents will occur. F1 social media are making this out to be WW3 😂

If you think the Max and Lando contact was Maxs fault you need to go to the hospital and get your brain checked. And also there have been dirtier drivers then Max, for example Schumacher, Senna, Prost, Hamilton, Alonso (And legit every driver in history that have dominated) that get praised for being dirty drivers while Max gets fucking hated by driving the same way as the drivers i named of. I dont really agree with the analysis on what happened after the contact. The way i see it Max was trying to get off the racing line and away from the Alpine and Lando. He knows he has the puncture but probably isnt aware of Lando's damage at that moment, he probably assumed Lando would pass on his left as a normal overtake would, so he just needs to get off the racing line. Lando in my opinion was being idiotic by driving like a madman while having damage, Max caused the colission but Lando destroyed his own floor and ended his owm race.

Lommo take. Its clear Max went off the racing line to prevent further issues with fast cars. Why Norris decided to follow him in that direction and then some to put a move on is a mystery to me. By that point it was clear to him that he had a puncture, even his engineer came onto the radio by then to tell him. He should've just followed to the off-line part of the track and stay behind Max.

As a Max fan, I am obliged to blame Lewis for this incident. Jokes aside, the margins were so fine out there. It was definitely a move too far, but they were both racing hard. Did Max know he had a puncture at that point? The tyre came off but sorta got itself back on for a few moments. Not saying it excused it but...

Clearly it wasn't optimal for anyone, but right after the race, Lando was acting like Max had killed his dog or something. Neither fella is free of blame. Lando could've (and in hindsight, should've) turned in behind Max, giving himself a better run out of T3. The overtake was there to be had.

Speaking of “ living to fight another day” that happened a lot, especially in stages of 2021 Lewis bailing out of contact in Spain t1 Lewis following Max wide in Brazil Lewis bailing out going round the outside of Max in the sprint race in Silverstone Lewis bailing out in Jeddah All of these races Lewis won but would have crashed and lost if he did not bail out despite the fact all of them he had full right to place his car where he did. Lando dive bombing is not also getting talked about here. He didn't just wanna pass Max, he wanted to PASS Max with loads of aggression. He basically wanted to drag his nuts on his face to put the whole 'he is soft' behind like Russell said, and Max was not having any of that.

The way I see it in the crash is Max wanted a little bit better exit and thought that Lando was goint to go to the kerbs, so he'll get a better exit. Still Max's fault tho. Can't deny that.

I think people are blowing this up, just because one of the 2 is british and the other is Max I think I saw Lando pushing max of track last race, no issues there as well Max is in the wrong, the penatly was correct - but nothing more then that, not worth any debate. Every single driver who was asked about Max today (15 of them) defended Max, and said Max didn’t do anything crazy. Many even saying he should not have been penalized. Your bias against him is appalling

The incident has gotten out of control because of the result and because it was at the lead, IMO. Sure Max was at fault, but 9 out of 10 times a touch like that ends with one of them going a bit wide and that's it, not with both cars getting a puncture. We see touches like that at every race, don't know why people act like Verstappen tried to kill Norris. 1- You could smell it was gonna happen, race control could just give Max a warning and you avoid the clash. Even Lando's penalty took so long and it was pretty straightforward. 2- Time for the FIA to start penalizing for the consequences, not the cause. It only leads to penalties with no real impact on the race... which leads to another off-track penalty so it can have an impact... what?

I think Max was just getting out of the racing line because he had a puncture and actually makes a correction towards left when he sees Lando but not sure maybe he was high on adrenaline and he thought he was still in the fight and needed to block Lando.

We have to remember Max did those questionable moves in the past that caused the FIA to make rule about late breaking. Max didn't handle it like an adult after complaining to his engineer. Andrea Stella was correct that this wasn't handled very well when Max was racing against Lewis, Max hasn't changed one bit.

I think max knows. In the post race interview he was very calm, and responded maturely. Let's see what happens in the future races.

Genuine question, how do we even know that that was intentional on Max's part? A lot of people have raised the possibility that he could have been moving off the racing line with the puncture. I think a lot of people are making biased assumptions about intentionality and pretending they can read people's minds. Should Max be asked about pushing Lando onto the grass post-puncture?Of course. Could it have been intentional? Also yes. But I think there are also reasonable explanations for why he did that other than just being petty (like the Alpine at full race speed right behind them). But because it's Max I think people assume the worst automatically.

The attitude of Red Bull and Christian Horner is the biggest issue imo. They’re enabling his aggression by blaming everyone but him. He races hard and does go over the limit at times (as many drivers do), but it seems that he is immune to being called out into it by his team.

That squeeze was just unlucky. You could see that Max was already aiming to go off the line when he rejoined, because he saw that a faster car was approaching (Ocon I think). Also, when he noticed Norris coming, he instantly straightened his car out, to give him space.

While I agree Max was at fault for the eventual crash, they were both treading on thin ice for a bit there. Lando divebombing and forcing Max off and Max moving under braking, you could see the collision coming a mile away. I think the reactions are way out of proportion though, this isn't like Imola or Brazil against Lewis where it was deliberate and bad driving or a dirty manoeuvre on Max's part, he did leave Lando room but he made a mistake and they crashed. Overall, really gutted for Lando and I hope it won't be the end of the bromance and that we'll get to see some more battles on track especially like the ones we saw between Charles and Max in early 2022.

Watch the onboard. When he accelerated away with his flat he was steering to the left, but his car wanted to go right. That was the problem

Max did not push Lando off on purpose here imo. Max gets back on the track, is not accelerating as much and gets off the racing line. Lando is accelerating more and tries to get in front even with a puncture. Max is just minding his own business at this point imo.

It was possibly a 'heat of the moment' reaction from Max. Maybe in the moment Max blamed the contact on Lando and after he realized he got a puncture he became irritated, thinking 'You screwed up my race, I'm certainly not going to let you pass now!'. We've seen this behaviour in sim-races, whenever Max feels someone has wronged him he doesn't shy away from taking his revenge. I'm a big Max fan myself but I found this moment during the race questionable. This is just speculation from my part. For all we know he was simply moving away from the racing line. But I'm very interested in the aftermath. If they're indeed good friends, maybe they'll sit down together, watch and analyse the moment back together, then hopefully there'll be no hard feelings. Or we could have another Rosberg/Hamilton situation on our hands. Time will tell. The next races will definitely be interesting!

As a Norris fan, I was livid at this. Max has a clear puncture, and then forcing Lando off the track in this petulant move? Insane. I'm relatively new to F1, about 2 seasons in, and I now get why people are always so negative about Max lol. He's good, that's clear, but is this what he's like when he's being regularly challenged? (From what I understand when he was fighting Lewis, yes.)

100% Norris had been pushing Max wide and not leaving space, and just over a week ago Norris ran Max off the road too. I'm boreline 100% sure that this was Max just saying 'fine -- he gets away with it, and he wants to bully me around - I'll do the same. He picked the rules of engagement.' This is 100% a 'Norris can give it but can't take' it situation, and Norris feels entitled to push harder because he wants it more, hasn't always had a good car, etc. If you ask me, I think Max was being a jerk for giving Norris back a taste of his own medicine. That isn't how you treat people. But also, Norris has been doing the same stuff lap after lap and race after race and just gets away with it because we all want him to do well / we root for the underdog / we're tired of Max winning? Why can't you just have a consistent set of rules that apply to everyone on every lap? Regardless of whether they're champions or if they won 20 in a row. It shouldn't matter if it's last lap or championship deciding whatever. Rules are rules, and we have cameras and data now. Create a set of rules which are testable and reliable, then stick to them. If the current rules are too grey to be enforceable, then they're bad rules -- and if you let Norris get away with it for several races / laps in a row -- then you have to let Max get away with it too. Instead, they just penalized both of them after the fact. Fair enough. They both deserve it.

I believe pushing lando to the grass wasn't on purpose. He looked in the mirror to cross the track and then stays off-line to not hinder anyone else. Lando just happens to drive to the gap that was gonna close. I dont think that was deliberate. But max could have done it for sure...

I think Lando didn't stray further into the curbs, because he genuinely thought Max would play fair and not push him off like that. His respect for Max probably made him think that there's no way Max would do him so dirty, and honestly, I agree because I was a bit shocked too. I think Max squeezed him out in purpose and intentionally tried to slow Lando down, but accidentally made him puncture. I'm not a Max fan, but I thought of him as a respectable driver...

Max is like Senna and Schumacher. He would rather crash than let someone steal his win. He is like that, he knows he's like that and he'll always be like that. He's gonna do it again. Norris needs to be very careful next time.

Braking for that corner starts just barely after the 100m board. If you watch the overhead crash clip back, Max is pointing at the apex well past that board. Around the 50m board, he changes course to the outside of the track, directly into the path of the Mclaren... However you look at it, that's moving under braking. Sure, Lando could've gone over the kerb a bit, but that rule is there not only for fair racing but also because it's bloody dangerous to do so. Max showed that complete disregard for his fellow racer's (and friend) safety lap after lap after lap. There's no excuse. Im a big fan of motoGP, and if you're found at fault for crashing out another rider, you receive a grid place penalty at the next race. 10 seconds, which doesn't even affect him in the end, is an insult.

There was more room for Lando than Lando gave Max in Spain... it was a strong fight, unfortunately it went awry. What I find amazing is the vitriol ... Fans look at the second incident between Norris and max through the eyes of people who drive a maximum of 80 maybe 90 mph on a motorway. F1 drivers can see and react to hazards much quicker than we can. Even if what max did wasn’t fair by trying to push Norris off, but Norris was doing the same thing into turn 3 a few times before. Nico did it to Lewis in 2016, and they both crashed, max knew lando would back out there. Lando tried to fight max with his own medicine and it just didn’t work out

I think it started in Spain a week earlier when Lando pushed Max off into the grass at the start.. But I do not think any of these drivers have friends on track anyway when push comes to shove and they are racing for a championship.. Especially with Max, he's not there to make friends and/or to become popular, he's only there to win.. He's always said that and is as ruthless as needed to try and achieve that.. That's how you assert your dominance in this sport.. Senna, Schumacher, Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton, they've all done it.. We'll see how Lando handles the pressure in Silverstone and rest of the season.. It will be a big test, especially if it requires some close racing with Max again..

He might also have been looking in his other mirror for fast cars which, again, is perfectly sensible. If not, there are no excuses and I'd be disappointed with him - but it's worth bearing in mind. Also: why didn't Lando go the other way round Max? He saw him deviating to the inside, and had enough time to react.
