I think Daniel would be at least as far from Max as he was from Lando in the Mclaren, probably slightly further. In 2022 that was about 3.5 tenths between Daniel and Lando. So I reckon he'd be about 4 or 4.5 tenths off of Max. I think that puts him about a tenth ahead of Checo. Definitely not enough to warrant a switch.
I would have loved to have seen (and I’m sure the racing world would have too), Danny sub in for Checo for one race in Austin to see if he could make it work. But that would be in a perfect world.
With Perez .8 off verstappen , .3 or 4 would've kept their constructors chances alive . The issue with Ric is it always takes him 6 or 7 races to get on top of a new car . Personally I think he would've been the right choice (to put Ric in rb1) for developing the car as his driving style is very similar to max and most of Perez issue is he is litterally the opposite (not that he's a bad driver or he doesn't deserve to be in a top tier team). If I were rb I would've given Ric a season without the option to renew , it would've helped max and the engineers for development for the new spec car also . For 25 they could bang in tsunoda or lawson or whoever as the new car will require some adapting to for the drivers , so it's a good time to throw a rookie in . 👍 On a final note , I think what happened to Ric was due to the nasty in fighting currently at red bull hq , it is a shame to send him off the way they did and really makes them look bad (personally I hope the karma train pays them a visit , even if I wasn't a Ric fan , that was clearly a nasty thing to do that leaves a sour taste )
I remember at the time thinking that Daniel made the right decision to leave RB because the Honda engine seemed even worse than the Renault engine and a works team seemed a better premise. How wrong I was but then we couldn't know.
What's commonly overlooked with Daniel is his driving style. Yes, I know to be as very good driver, you have to adapt to different cars but getting into the Vcarb, it had similar limitations to the Mclaren he drove just without the braking issues. Although, prior to obtaining the Vcarb seat, he tested in the RedBull that was said to put him on the front row of Silverstone.. in a car that suits his driving style. So why make the decision on him in a car that doesnt work as well and has the worst strategists? They should've put him in the RB seat for a practice session and gained real data correlating to the car he should be driving. Either way, this will backfire on RB like it did when Daniel left the first time.
Using the word delta is some weird meme that has crept into F1. It means change not gap. You can have a delta between two lap times, but people now use it to mean the gap between cars, which is not correct. There is no "change" between two different cars.
Streets will never forget his late braking, race wins, podiums, shoes, poles but leave that aside for now… it’s his smile, jokes and positive energy… those are the reasons he will always have a special place in our hearts. Scenes after Singapore GP tell you everything you need to know about Daniel… everybody coming to greet him and being genuinely sad to see him leave. The main star of DTS in the first season and it’s him who made DTS so intereseting and that sucked lot of people in the series and in the f1. Sad to see him go but it’s time… its just unfortunate for us that we didn’t get to see him in a car he deserved a bit more often…
Max was already faster than Ricciardo in terms of one lap pace & race pace since 2017. Today's Max would've been at least 4-5 tenths faster than today's Ricciardo in terms of one lap pace & 7-8 tenths faster in terms of race pace in the same compounds & fuel loads. Max became a beast in every aspect of his level & his consistency is unmatched right now.
Danny Ric was in F1 about 90% longer than most other drivers, historically. He’s had his time. A great driver and a better personality, but no one can do this forever.
How can you compare Daniel to anyone when he was never supported by red bull no Aussie will ever be supported by red bull if Aussie drivers get put in that team it is only to make other drivers look good the proof is what happened to mark with Vettel and what happened when dan and max had the accident that accident was clearly Max's fault not Dan's but dan got the blame another example was Yuki a dan before dan got put in the v carb team Yuki was about to get kicked out along comes dan gets a new car makes the car go good in less than a year and all of a sudden Yuki is apparently the better driver red bull was never going to let dan look better than Yuki because they want young drivers they are not going to put dan in a car for 3 to 4 years and the replace him because he retires why can't every body smell (the bull shit that is red) bull
True fact Out of all the 5 drivers that’s been max’s team mate he’s the only one that pushed him His driving style is very similar He left because he knew he will be another Webber when max came in 2016 and Baku 2018 was the catalyst
Liam is a huge downgrade. Didn’t win f4 f3 f2. No commercial value when redbull Is a product and they want the most amount of money. Hence not sacking Perez due to him bringing more money than max or half the drivers combined.
DR is the only teammate to beat Max over the season, twice, and even with the 80-point gap in their final tear, it is the closest any of his subsequent teammates were.
Mexico 22 made me so mad. He did so well. I was like - Daniel you know you have it in you. Why did you not do anything like this before? It would have never come down to this. I love Danny but I can’t deny his exit makes sense. However, fuck that heart attack inducing piece of shit company for treating him this horribly.
Unpopular opinion, if Danny had stayed at Red Bull and they treated him fairly, he would have beaten Max and won at least one drivers championship with the car they wound up building. The only reason he left was because he knew Horner would prioritize Max instead of having a fair race. I said what I said. Max fanboys can disagree all you want.
There was rummors that they conducted internal testing with some old car, and Checo was the closest to Max, and Liam was last. Thats why Checo is still driving for the number 1 team.
