Hey, I give the lady in the expedition kudos. She actually takes her vehicle off road and enjoys it with her family. That's more than most of the street queens i see running around...
The lady did the right thing getting help she had the kids to consider and realised she was out of her depth. Great job once again, really enjoy watching thanks.
While obviously the expedition had no trouble getting out, I agree with you and a few others she did the right thing all things considered. And she's actually out giving it a shot instead of parking her kids in front of the TV. Cant knock that
@@mikesloper2000 were you in her mine let alone her mindset at the moment? Cause its easy for us to sit here and say blah blah blah, buy we weren't in that car to hear her fear or the kids. She 100% did the right thing, in trying to take her kids out doors, and calling for help when she felt she was in over HER head (not yours, mine or Matt's but hers )
@@jilliansadventures4679 It can be quite scary the first time but that vehicle is quite capable. Enjoy the adventure with the kids. Do yourself a favour and do a 4x4 driving course.
Yep it's smarter to stop when you don´t know what the outcome is going to be! Like imagine flipping your truck instead of spending a couple of bucks on a tow service!
exactly! better stop befor rollover, than after. very nice happy end, when Matt observe situation, sid in the car, turn and bring car into secure situation!!! hey i like that. you are great Matt!
There is nothing wrong with knowing your limits. Better to call someone who has experience, than to make a bad situation worse and hurt someone. She did what she had to do to get home safe. I know a few men who have died because they did not know when to give up.
Smart lady, knowing when to stop and call a professional. Also have to admire her for going out and using the vehicle as it was designed for to have some fun. Noticed that none of the police were going anywhere near it. Matt made something hard look easy.
@@getchasome6230 ... that is the voice she was given at birth, what is she supposed to do about that? My nose is too big, so what? This is who and how I am, this is who and how she is.
Haters are going to hate. I wasn't giving anyone driving suggestions, I was talking about how I was following my daughter's instruction before I got stuck. The police didn't feel it was worth us trying to get it out on our own that is why help was called. Matt was actually the second truck called, the first couldn't help. Until you're in a situation like this you don't know how you'll react. I was just happy for the help. Matt was amazing. As far as my Minnie mouse voice, sorry, it's my voice and I'm stuck with it. 🤷♀️😂😂😂 Matt's offroad recovery has a fan for life.
Don't fret the haters and the people who don't pay attention when watching the video. I see mostly positive and encouraging comments. Most of us in the off road community encourage people to join. The more people who support the hobby means the less likely trails will be closed. So please keep trying and with experience comes confidence. Btw. Great family!
@@olliehopnoodle4628 thanks! 😊 I'm in management and I've learned you can't get easily offended. I actually find it entertaining, especially people making fun of my voice. 😂 Lol.
Just need to say I think it is awesome you taking the kids out to see nature!! Smart to call for help when you are in a spot that makes you nervous. I hope you guys had time to have some fun out there. There are places that give off road lessons and you can get a lot more comfortable driving and learn about what to do with airing down tires. Your kids seem very polite, nice to see that. Have a great day and stay safe and healthy, have fun.
Jillian Seymour I’m so glad you didn’t risk it, without getting help. Reversing down steep slopes on loose track is one of the most dangerous maneuvers there is, when offroad. I’ve seen many even quite experienced drivers get it wrong, and once it gets away from you, it’s almost impossible to recover. You’re kids are very lucky to have adventures with their mum, and they will appreciate your efforts more and more as they grow up. Well done Jillian. 👍🏻🇷🇴🇬🇧
I give the lady credit for trying. She was smart enough to stop when she was unsure. She was in a bit of a sketchy situation. A lot of folks would have kept going and possibly end up in a worse predicament. I think it hilarious to read comments from all the internet experts. I have been off roading for over 40 years. If you haven't been stuck, you aren't trying hard enough. Everytime you go offroad is a new experience. I also have to say that Matt is always very respectful to the customers.
100%. Better to take the experience of a professional when it is your own main car. Plenty people pushed on and got the repair bill to prove the point...
This is great. I grew up in St. George and my brother now lives in Hurricane. I think it's really fun to see this landscape on youtube and to see you guys in action. I have driven over this area before. When I was in High School my Dad owned a Willy's jeep that was overpowered (Ford 289) and had balloon tires so we never got stuck, but that sand is treacherous. Keep up the good work.
That is a steep, sketchy road. The first time we went up it in our 4WD Yukon XL. There were no barnacles left on the bottom of the boat by the time we got up to the old concrete Navigation Arrow at the top. Awesome view of Quail Creek Reservoir, Red Cliffs Reserve, and Pine Valley from up there! Our last 2 trips to the top we took the side x side. Not at all surprised that she decided to stop and come back down. Nice job helping her back down Matt.
That kid was so cute. Nice to know that your channel is so family friendly and kids know that you genuinely like them. Good role model, because I think they see the kid in you.
Unfortunately, on the flipside, a lot of dudes don't have the balls but they are so insecure that they will press on because they don't want others to know they have small balls. That's where we find cars that have tumbled down a hillside. Sometimes with life changing injuries or worse. It takes balls to get there but even bigger balls to call for help when you are out of your area of expertise.
What are you talking about? She went 200m up a trail in a beefy 4x4 and tried to back out because she got scared and then panicked when she got in a slightly difficult situation. Where are her balls?
@@mikesloper2000 we went quite a bit further than it shows. That's just where I got stuck. I was past where Matt turned it around. I would not have dared back up that slope like he did. I did attempt to back down and was doing pretty good for not being able to see the road. I got going the wrong way after listening to my daughter's directions. I tried to pull forward off the rock but the rear passenger tire slid down more and the front driver tire was lifting. The first towing company my insurance called refused to help and also recommended Winder Towing.
It can feel pretty horrendous in a car in that situation if you aren't used to the extreme angles the car can manage. Usually human fear takes over before car's capacity is reached! She did the right thing, and I'm sure your gentle kindness was helpful to her and appreciated. Nice work as ever.
Exactly. Hills and speed do not translate well on video. It probably looked and felt a lot worse in person, and if she wasn't comfortable she did the right thing by calling someone.
Matt just want to say thank you, I'm going through some hard times in my life and when I put one of your videos on I'm able to relax and not think about my problems..... You're vids along with others on here are getting me through divorce and other issues 💯💯 Thank You
As someone who has spent lots of time in places like Moab, I’ve learned that the camera never shows how steep it really is, and when you go beyond your ability is when accidents happen, so god for her for not pushing her limits. Better safe than sorry.
You to learn to use reference in the videos to gauge the grade/slope. Grass, and shrubs, the power poles. Was not that tough of a spot to a seasoned pro.
Credit where credit is due - if I was one of those kids with that mom during that experience, I'd be having the time of my life. "MOM ALMOST FLIPPED THE SUV" LOL Good for her, getting the family out n about on an adventure and knowing when to ask for help.
People like matt, is what makes southern utah a great place to live, positive attitudes, friendly vibes, and family oriented customer service... and yes he acts the same way in real life... down to earth, great family...
Not a bad day :D . Hats off to the second person for knowing when they were out of there comfort zone and asking for help even though you drove it out. Can not beat experience. Hopefully she will learn from this and be more confident of herself and her vehicle in the future. This is what offroading and getting off the beaten trail is about! Learning and Adventure!
Ive been binge watching Matt , he is an honest guy, doesn't berate people for getting stuck (you should see how far a dude got a prius into the wops ). He is always just there to help ,, Damn if i was rich i would cruise to Hurricane and get some hats an stuff.. Three cute girls pulled out of the mud in a campervan is another cool episode,,,oh,, and the Razor that was standing verticle on its nose,,, let alone the KTM rescue,,(even more into the wops),, Look, its just good watching a guy that just loves this more than roofing,,( he has roofers he brings sometimes,,they have 4 legs,,,).. Remember,,,Do a job you love ,,, and you will never work a day in your life ,,,
Honest to goodness nice guy with no judgement and gets people out of their perceived trouble. Even gets people out of real trouble too. Don't change anything about yourself and your channel. No scripts.
I like the short videos as much as the longer more technical ones. With the Expedition, the first thing you did was to safely get her out of the vehicle to reduce her stress. Nice work.
On the second recovery, it was probably safer for her to let someone who deals with recovery all the time to look things over and decide if it can be driven out or if other measure might be required. Have a safe weekend.
Matt has class and I think he cares about everyone he helps out of a jam. I hope one day I can drive up to his business and shake his hand. I feel like he is a friend already.
I loved the lady's enthusiasm throughout the whole experience. It was just a great adventure for her and her kids and her last sentence before she climbed in the Expedition "Was that good? .. giggle" made me laugh too. You know she will be back out on the trails with that car and have more great days and adventures with her kids - which is just great!
Love the fact you offroad with your family. Love your attitude and energy. Love that you also are taking a kayak. Yes, that was an easy recovery. But you did the right thing and called a pro as that could have easily been a flipped truck if you did the wrong turn. Hope you get back on the backroad again soon! P.S. watching these videos will help you learn to be an even better offroad driver. Have fun! Screw the haters if any....
Lol, watching the previous videos helped get me out of a sand trap today. I thought I was a sitting duck at first but I was able to finally maneuver out. My five year old said she was sad we couldn't call the guys who helped us last time. Lol. There's just too much to explore!
Another awesome video! I really enjoyed the kid at the end. He well be a lifetime subscriber plus he gets to show all his friends in school that he was on Matt’s off road recovery on RU-vid. Keep’em videos coming!
Lol, twice now. 🤦♀️ He's definitely a fan but I think my five year old daughter is actually the biggest fan. She talks about Matt, Lizzy and the dogs all the time.
For Matt the expedition was the equivalent of backing out of a parking space at a supermarket, Making a three point turn, and pulling back Into the same space. But for others, when you feel that tire come up it’s definitely a sphincter clencher. She did the right thing!
Well done. Not everybody is experienced in driving off road, and at least she gave it a shot. We've all been there and done that where calling for help from a buddy is likely the right thing to do instead of getting yourself into a potentially worse situation that you're unsure of.
Great job Randy on filling in for Ed and both of you on the camera work in the heat. Smart Mom awesome of her to take the kids out off road and smart enough to know when to call for help. Why was my ex never that smart she wrecked every vehicle she drove, still does. Nice kids also, I like polite kids. Stay safe and healthy, have fun.
Nice recoveries. I agree with others who give the lady in the Expedition credit for both using the vehicle as intended and knowing when she was beyond her comfort level. I think her son will be your newest fan!
Jillian, what a wonderful parent you are. You did not try to exceed your skill level. You stopped the moment you realized that you were in a driving situation that you felt uncomfortable with, and protected your children by calling the police for help. You kids are so lucky you are their parent. Jillian you did great. I feel sorry for any child who has one of those negative-commentators for a parent. They show no human understanding, kindness, sympathy, and are teaching their children the worst sort of behavior possible. You rock Jillian.
@Tom Oakhill Thank you. 😊 My kids are awesome too. They still talk about this. Lol. They get excited when we go off the beaten path. There's so much world out there to explore and the best way to find it is to go the path least followed.
Smart move on her part. Buddy taught me long ago, and it has served me well the rest of my life, to ask myself "Can I afford it" before doing most anything sketchy. Most times I lean on the side of "No, I can't afford it." Has saved me a lot of grief, money, health and most likely even my life more than once.
I fully understand the Ford Exp woman. Better safe than sorry, as sorry in this case could evolve into disaster in less than a second. I consider myself an experienced driver being 67 and tried many things, but this one I too would definately think twice about before going further. Matt knows his business being an expert off road driver, and it is a pleasure to watch how easily he drives or pulls a car out of a situation. Thanks for sharing Matt !
Easily the best part: 5:30 onward.... that little boy looking up at Matt, like Matt is a "Super Hero". Which of course, he is!! Matt just saved him and his mom from danger. The boy overcomes his tentativeness and speaks up. Good job Matt with seeing his need for the high-five!!
Experience makes a huge difference on a hill like this. It looks like it was a pretty precarious situation and you have be pretty darn confident to handle something like this.
It takes a lot of fortitude to get over the pucker factor that kicks in when a vehicle tilts over more than ~25 degrees or so. IFS rigs don't "flex" their way over those obstacles, they lean and lift tires, which can make things feel more precarious when in fact there's often no actual danger of tipping. Most stock-height SUV's won't actually tip over till they are at about 50 degrees, or jostled to tip at a lower angle. I've buried the 45-0-45 indicator in my SUV more times than I care to admit.
Just in case you feel inspired, I've got one of those first gen expos for sale right now😃 Good for her teaching her kids about adventure and when to pump the brakes! And they still got to play in the water
I used to work with a guy who was a79yo retired CHP officer, her used to tell me "when I was 6 I'd fight you if you tried to make me take a nap, now today I'm in my 70s I'll fight you if you try to stop me".
I did that once in my XJ, but that was full blown rock crawling, and I had a roll cage😂. My copilot ended up basically in my lap because he refused to wear his belt. We ended up on our side, took 3 guys and another rig to tip us back over. He wore his seatbelt from then on, I didnt spend the $ to put 5 point harnesses in for laughs.
A good example of just who we have on the roads these days. Matt was paid to be nice.. and he has a good recovery service depending on people who are out there getting themselves into trouble for his rescue team to recover them and the camera men to record another good video for the subscribers. A good team effort, including the unwary who get hung up.
Great videos- I enjoy them all. I have had many jeeps, Toyota land cruisers, etc. and have been stuck my fair share. The worst was when I was about 17. I hadmy Jeep CJ-3B stuck on a muddy pipeline. What a mess. My friends and I worked for a couple hours before my good friend observed that the Jeep wasn’t even in 4wd. Wow - was I stupid. I’m still not the brightest bulb, but even I had to wonder what the guy with the grey mini van was thinking.
1st one was basic enough... The Expedition once again showed off you superior driving abilities, your knack for judging terrain vs. vehicle capabilities is impressive, well done!👍
I am amazed at how many of these recoveries are little more than Matt getting into the vehicle, and driving it out. Just goes to show what a difference a little bit of knowledge and experience can make.
Not about to hate on the nice lady with the Expedition just some words of advice. If you aren't sure then don't go. Your truck/vehicle will often handle more than you think it can and generally WILL handle more than you'd believe. The question is how much can YOU handle. If you aren't comfortable and no one with you is either then it's best not to do what you're about to do. Always judge your own limits before the limits of the vehicle. I'm glad you got down safe :)
Hey, everyone keep in mind the vital service that Matt is providing to the parks and remote areas. He is making it possible for hundreds or possibly thousands of people to be able to venture in to a relatively remote area, and safely get out. 30 years ago, there was no cell phones and no one to call even if you had a way to call. Think about walking kids miles out of the dessert to find a phone in 100+ heat. The whole area, in spite of driver mistakes, becomes 1000x more accessible because of Matt.
In same cases the added value is not to what to do, is HOW to do. It does not matter if it takes five minutes. The important thing is that the woman with small kids have been very intelligent by asking help instead of make the problem bigger.
Always good to see Jillian and the kids (glad the Deputy took care of the kids while Matt handled the vehicle). [I'm watching these videos as RU-vid puts them in my feed, which is not in chronological order] Once the camera got on the right side, we could see that the Expedition was at quite a steep angle. Nice camera work.
