Just like most of the pandemic policies it isn't even logical let alone scientific so it begs the question who does Boris really work for because it surely isn't the British people who are already facing astronomical bills because of successive governments destroying our energy security. And she is quite right about China. Since carbon taxes they are exempt from, as the worlds biggest polluter (makes sense right?) they have built 10 cheap dirty coal plants to every clean burning coal plant we shut down and spent billions on engineering. Could the illogic and incredible one sided nature of this UN diktat have anything do with the fact their think tanks that came up with it are funded by the global elite? That carbon taxes line their pockets not ours? That they planned to move all their factories and funding to China to profit from this abundant cheap dirty energy and ubiquitous cheap labour? That they made trillions by creating an unlevel playing field that also led to the deindustrialisation of the West? Surely not! Meanwhile Co2 makes up just 0.04% of atmosphere as a trace gas. Only a tiny fraction of that is man made and stays in the atmosphere long enough to be considered a greenhouse gas, maybe 1%, That means man made Co2 makes up about 0.0004% of atmosphere but the UK produces less than 1% of that so 0.000004% of atmosphere. That means all the sacrifice in the world from Britons will only lead to Co2 being reduced by 4 parts per 100.000,000 (One hundred million) of atmosphere over decades and centuries and that is going to save the planet from runaway warming or whatever? Even if we believed that somehow we should ask why is it now with Co2 levels at historical low levels on the geological scale, they have been much higher for around 85%+ of Earth's life giving climate, that we are in such danger now when it has never happened before even with Co2 twenty times higher for tens of millions of years than now such as in the Cambrian period - no runaway warming! Has the laws of physics changed? We have had ice ages and glaciation with Co2 three times higher than now! But suddenly, just as a global elite attempt to centralise power by usurping national democracies the science changed and the Earth will die within 10 years unless we give up everything and let them micromanage every aspect of our lives while they still live in opulence? What a coincidence! A bit like the coincidence that most of the speakers at Cop26 were among the richest people in the world, including Bezos who returned to Earth to let us know we must eat plants and insects while he builds rockets and billion pound mansions (on Islands he says will be under water) The whole thing is prima facie ridiculous and I have no idea how they managed to brainwash so many people into believing the greatest conspiracy on Earth.

I'll tell you how mad this all is, and why the eco-nutters need putting back in their box. Drax Power Station in Yorkshire - once the biggest coal-burning power station in Europe - now burns biofuel. That biofuel is grown in Brazil, the mid-west of America and the prairies of Canada. It is converted locally from being a raw fibrous material into a usable 'woodchip' which requires energy-heavy processing plants operating around the clock. It is then transported to America's eastern seaports by diesel trains. It is then shipped to Ellesmere Port on diesel-powered ships (and those ships return across the Atlantic empty by the way). Once off-loaded at the dockside, it is transported across The Pennines to Drax by Class 66 diesel locomotives. Could we PLEASE encourage all delusional environmentalists to extract their heads from their oh-so-virtuous backsides. This isn't 'green'. This is demented. Ask yourself a basic question: where does that huge carbon footprint fall on the UK? At Ellesmere Port, or in the fields and jungles of the Americas? The real reason the UK's carbon footprint is so low is largely because you "exported" it: your manufacturing is done abroad! And don't forget the energy expended importing from the Far East. @johnboy14
@johnboy14 2 года назад
It doesn't work like that, if you don't invest and build the markets for renewable energy then you will never get off fossil fuels. GB news keeps pushing this anti renewables agenda because it tickles the balls of its viewers despite it being rubbish. The dependency on fossil fuels is part of the current problem, all energy is extracted by private companies in the UK, so they won't give it away for nothing. Fracking is a horrible way to get natural gas and been proven time over time to affect the water table if it's done poorly and energy companies have a habit of putting profits above safety. The biggest mistake this country has made is the chronic under investment in nuclear alternatives.

Electricity currently provides around 20% of our energy requirements and on average, renewables generate a around 30% of our electricity but often it's less than 5%. In contrast to this, gas currently provides 50% of our energy requirements. Overalltherefore, renewables currently provide around 7% but often less than 1% of our total energy requirements. Even 10 times more wind energy wouldn't achieve net zero and we would still need the equivalent in gas backup for when there isn't enough wind. At the moment subsidies for these unreliable renewables add 25% to our electricity bills. 10 times more wind would need the subsidies on electricity bills to increase to 250%. The intermittancy of renewables also poses a serious risk of permanently damaging our national electricity grid. This is totally, totally bonkers and the majority of the British public have no clue as to where this government are taking them. Well done GB news for allowing an open discussion on one if the most important subjects this country had ever faced.

It is madness - yes we should try and be more efficient, yes we should try to use more renewables and yes we need to use nuclear power. What we do not need to do is pay the government more money and buy an electric car as that will not solve the problem.

And they are still going for it never mind about 1000s of jobs lost or people freezing in winter if we are not self sufficient what will happen if we fall out with the countries that ship it all in

This Lady hit the nail on the head. We the voters were not consulted in any way shape or form about 'Net Zero'. As she pointed out it's just virtue signalling, but at our expense.

Cause it’s not actually ecologically good. Windmills use tonnes of co2 to produce, some are gas powered to get the blades spinning, the fibreglass blades need replacing often from sonic speed flows at the tips and they get dumped in the floor when finished. They’re made by the lowest bidder so quality isn’t there, buy nice or buy twice. Not to mention all the birds and insects they kill. The technology just isn’t there nor will it ever be. It’s a futile endeavour, and there is nothing ‘Green’ about it.

@@christinaedwards5084 _Windmills use tonnes of co2 to produce_ . Windmill produce grain. Anyway, power plants that burn natural gas are responsible for 437 to 758 grams of CO2-equivalent per kilowatt-hour, coal burning power plants 675 to 1,689 grams of CO2 per kilowatt-hour, whereas the United Kingdom onshore wind turbines produce 11.8 grams of CO2-eq per kWh. Which is higher?
