This eBay seller may be shill bidding to raise the price of their auction. In this video I show you why I think they shilled and what action you can take to report them for doing this.

I’d report it. If you had won it at the lower price, I’m sure the seller would have lost the item. You did great though, still a very nice price for an exquisite piece 🤗💙

I knew someone who would bid on his sister's auctions regularly to bump the prices up (maybe ebay guard more against this now, but I doubt it). I'm ALWAYS a sniper XD

Yes, a lot of seller's get friends or family to shill on the auctions also. It is so they don't have to pay a reserve fee, which I understand is expensive. I think the seller's should just start the opening bid at the minimum they are willing to accept. I am also always a sniper too. I get way more wins when I snipe.

I'm not sure it would do any good because if a shiller is smart, they have someone else set up to do their bid for them and it would have a different IP address.

That is true. However, you would not believe how dumb a lot of people are in this world.

I would report it. Who know if it will do any good in the long run, but just letting people get away with things like that is what allows them to become such a problem. They are breaking the rules to make more money. They made more money off of you by making you pay more, and they made more money by not having to pay for the reserve. They want to reap the benefits an auction without a reserve while also reaping the benefits of having a reserve. They need to just play by the rules. That makes it fair for everyone.

I called eBay and reported it. They said they are sending it to their "investigations team". They said they will not be telling me the outcome. Since it makes them more money in fees the more money you pay I can guarantee if the seller was shilling they will not be kicked off sadly.

Imo I think eBay should investigate it, but I tend to let things go, which isn't one of my best traits.

I have self control issues, and am impulsive so I couldn't let this one go this time around, lol. I usually let things go too, but I looked at some of their other ended listings and found more shady looking bids. I already called eBay and they are looking into it. The rep said it looked very suspicious. They are sending this info to their fraud department and if the seller's IP address or home addresses, phone numbers and personal info match, he told me they are going to be banning them from selling on eBay. I am going to keep an eye out and see if the seller gets banned. I won't give feedback for at least 10-12 days and see if they are still on the platform. If yes, then they were exonerated.

@FuturesPast1 I'm glad you did report it. After Whatnot insinuated I had received something I didn't it made me so mad that they basically were calling me a liar. Keep us updated, I'm suspicious of anyone with 1 or 2 reviews.

@@sherri2594 Thanks. I cannot outright accuse this seller, but it is really very shady and suspicious. I will keep you all updated. What happened on Whatnot? Did a seller or Whatnot insinuate you received something you didn't? I do not trust that app/selling platform. Anything I am not familiar with makes me anxious. I just usually just stick with eBay, RubyLane, Mercari, Poshmark or Etsy. At least on eBay the buyer has a lot of protection. I am afraid of buying from Whatnot because I do not know how well their buyer protection is on there. What sucks is if the seller did actually shill on that listing, eBay told me they will not give me the difference in the extra I paid. I asked them and they said all they can do is just remove the seller from the platform.

@FuturesPast1 I purchased 2 items from a seller, they had to package them separately, but they used the same tracking number. The jewelry part was delivered in the mailbox, but the other part never came..it wouldn't have fit in the mailbox. When I messaged her she told me it was delivered I tried to explain to her I didn't receive both she didn't believe me so how do you take that up with Whatnot when it was marked delivered? I should have messaged them to let them know sellers should use a different tracking if they are packaging separately, but after the way they treated me I took the $10.00 loss. It isn't right they won't reimburse you for that difference, but the satisfaction of them being removed would make me happy.

@@sherri2594 Oh wow! That sounds like scammer behavior. She should have sent both items separately, each with a different tracking number. By her giving the same tracking number for the second item, she was scamming you and the system. In this case it is hard to prove she scammed you as Whatnot may think she combined the items in one shipment. My friend Chris filmed one of his unboxings from Whatnot thankfully. When he got screwed, he sent Whatnot video proof. It proved the seller sent him a broken/damaged item and Whatnot ruled in his favor. It is a shame they did not take your side. Maybe if you continue to buy there you can film yourself unboxing your items for proof if a seller scams you. This is one of the main reasons I make unboxing videos. If I get scammed or an item is broken I have proof which will help me get my money back.
