I remember back in school we would have a test and the teacher would say to read all the instructions first. Some kids would read the first line and begin, but the very last instruction would be to just put your name on the test and put your pencil down. The point of the test was to see if we could follow instructions. From then on, I always read everything first, I guess Hello Fresh assumes that as well.

rice: 2 parts water 1 part rice. 1. Bring water to boil with any spices you want, and butter. 2. add rice, and stir 3. cover and lower burner to low. (make sure to use the smallest burner on your stove.) 4. cook covered for minimum of 20 minutes. 5. uncover and using a fork, just look down to the center of the bottom of the pan for water. if there is water, cook for 10 extra minutes. *Do not disturb the rice except for the center.* 6. once there is no more water let sit for 10 minutes. stir before serving. note: if rice sticks to the bottom because it is over done, let sit and cool. As it cools it will unstick. unless you seriously burned it lol.

Hi Jen, as a rule of thumb to cook rice you put the rice into a pan then cover it with water up to about one quarter inch above the rice. Add salt and bring to the boil until the rice is soft.

Asian tip for rice cooking: put rice into pot, put in water to the point where if you place your index finger and check if the level of water is roughly the same as the first "line" (or knuckle?) of your finger and then work from there depending on how you like your rice! (Hope that makes some sort of sense)

Ok so maybe someone already posted this but here it goes anyway! So to make rice no matter how much you are making just add enough water to cover it and then use the finger joint measure (make sure your pot is leveled in the counter and enough water so that if the tip of your finger is touching the rice the water comes up to the first joint of your finger) so about an inch, add salt and canola oil or vegetable oil so it doesn't get all stuck together, let it boil uncovered, when the water level goes down so you can see the rice on top, give it a mix with a spoon, cover, low heat and cook for 15mins, check it ( I wish there was an easier way, but just try it to see if it's done) we (Puerto Ricans) eat rice almost EVERY day!! It's the first thing we do before we figure out what to do for dinner!!! This is the way my abuela taught me and it's always worked for me! I hope it works for you if you decide to try it! And best of luck! Oh and by the way those were the skinniest most pathetic looking chilly peppers I've ever seen!!!! Maybe you were supposed to activate them water! Like the pills that would turn into dinosaurs sponges!!! Lol

I come from a family of 'natural born' cooks so I never learned until I had to. Something that helped me was starting off with one pan dinner recipes (you can find plenty of Pinterest) then moving to more complicated recipes after that. and honestly, I think shopping for your own groceries helps you learn because you have to go out to identify, measure, etc while seeing other options. Keep up the good work! Don't be ashamed to google stuff because that's how you learn.

I recently took a Thai cooking class and our instructor told us to put the rice in the pot and level it. Then as you add water, touch the top of the rice and fill your water to the first crease of your index finger. I'm not sure if it works for small amounts of rice, but if it's at the 1 cup measurement.... It does! :b Also, she said you should always rinse your rice until the water runs clear before cooking.

I usually just boil a pot of water, don't measure it just put whatever amount. Get it boiling, then add a little butter and add rice, get it reboil then reduce heat and sit for 20 mins and strain and quick rinse and you get perfect rice! Learned it from my memaw. Everyone in my family cooks it that way.

Im sorry I was late watching this video. My family has a background in cooking for generations and Im a trained chef, so here's my helpful hints to cook rice. First, it always depends on what rice we're talking about but for a general idea here's the tips: 1- Always wash your rice before cooking: If you're not sure about how clean your rice is or if its from a package you should wash your rice so you get rid of any surface starches; 2- One cup of rice Two cups of cold water: This is the general proportion you are seeking when preparing rice; 3- Always heat your rice before adding water: Before adding water to your rice, fry the rice for a minute or two with a drizzle of olive oil on medium heat. The taste of the rice will be much more refined and you will find yourself with a better finished product; 4- After adding water dont stir the rice: By doing so you'll get a soggy rice at the end; 5- Add a small cup of white wine if you like so: This is one of the reasons why rice at fine restaurants taste so much better than at home. Adding white wine together with the water will help the rice develop. That's it, at least thats how I was told to cook rice. Sorry about typos, English is my second language. Keep rocking, you guys are great.

A tip my mom told me while cooking with ground beef is to touch it as little as possible. The more you handle it, the tougher the meat gets. This is especially true when I cook meatloaf or hamburger patties. By the way, I love your videos!

A tip when using cilantro (or any other leafy herb): While still on the stalk, bunch the leaves together and chop until you get to the stems. The stems of leafy herbs, such as cilantro, parsley, and dill, have a ton of flavor. Unlike thyme or rosemary, whose stems are woody and stiff, the tender herb stems of leafy herbs can be easily digested.

The easiest way to remember about the rice, however much rice you are making, double the water amount....1 cup rice ...2 cups water... don't mean to be snarky but,,,when you go to make something, read the recipe through before starting...it helps...my mother always told me to do that. Sometimes they are TERRIBLY confusing!!! I have been enjoying these recipes that you have been making and I have adapted a few of them for my group and the results have been very good!! They like it!!! Please don't get frustrated and stop showing how to do it!!!
@juliangines6764

also, I've been noticing something else: when you cook, make sure to season every level. so, when I cook tomatoes, I'll season with a little salt, then I'll put in the black beans, season, and let it cook. you'll build a base of flavor that seems to be missing. salt is not necessarily bad, just in excess. don't be scared of salt.

Something I learned in a cooking class I took in high school, ALWAYS read the directions from start to finish at least once before even getting out your ingredients. You guys should invest in a rice cooker. :) Also, if you use 3/4c of rice, you use 3/4c +1/2c extra of water, at least in a rice cooker. So, whatever the measurement of rice is, you use that same measurement and always add an extra 1/2c and the rice comes out perfectly every time. Hope that helps!

Hi Guys! Let me just tell you, I did enjoy Hello Fresh, but honestly, Pinterest has been such an awesome way to cook some really good stuff. If you're bad about making a list for the store, just pick 3 recipes that you want to make, print them out, check off what you do have, and then you know what you need from the store. You just have to spend that extra 10 minutes. I don't know, Pinterest I feel is the way to go.

And then for flavor, add the hot peppers to the beef mix for a little bit instead of just using it for a garnish.

Be sure to read the directions for any recipe first (if you aren't already??), not that it really mattered in this case since I don't think adding the cilantro stalks would have made it taste any different? I believe making rice is a 1:2 ratio. 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water :) not sure if it's the same for brown rice though! 😕

SOmetimes healthy food is super high in calories :) but what you're eating is healthy and nourishing your body so it is okay! Like avocados are really high in calories but theyre also super healthy :) x
