Before January 1st I said 2021 would be full of challenges and here I am starting off 2021 with the biggest and most painful challenge of my life. This is how it happened.
This is part 1 of the series of my comeback. I invite you to follow along with my recovery. We all have a Day 1 when we start something new - whether it's starting a new workout program, recovering from an injury, or reaching for a new goal. Accomplishing new things and overcoming challenges you never expected takes hard work and dedication. But, take it one step at a time and each day you will become stronger.
If you're starting your Day 1, in anything, I invite you to reach out to me if you need encouragement or support.
I also invite you to join me and my workout program at Alexia-clark.com

Thank you for your transparency. 5 years I was wheelchair bound with 2 herniated discs and after a 5-hour spinal surgery and months of learning how to put one foot in front of the other again, kicked that wheelchair to the curb and am now back to doing HITT workouts. I look forward to trying one of yours!

Wow, I know this was a year ago but I just saw your video. I'm so happy you survived this horror. My grandmother suffered this, but didn't make it. She was in her late 60's, refused treament, pulled out all her tubes in the hospital & went home only to die shortly thereafter 😟

Yes, one important thing that I have learned that can help anyone going through any kind of recovery is that taking care of yourself, being health, and in shape before an injury occurs will help you recover much much quicker. It's important for everyone to take care of themselves for many reasons - one being recovering from unexpected health issues makes recovery much faster.

So glad you are ok, I had the same story but they found a huge tumour .... we both have the same warrior scars💗 nutrition can be a bit of a pain but it gets easier, avocados, quinoa, zucchini all work for me now but in the first few months it was slowly but surely whilst my small intestine retrained then 20% I have left of my large. Being vegan is a bit of a pain now so I eat chicken, fish and eggs as beans etc are difficult to digest. I suggest juicing, smoothies etc and gradually bring the fibre in, I wish you all the best on your journey, the main thing is that you are ok and I promise it gets better and easier xx

Hey Alexia. Big fan. I remember you doing like a crazy sit ups abs program just before you got sick. Did that have anything to do with your intestine getting all tied up? Lots of love from Montreal.❤️

OMG! So shocked to hear what happened to you. I’m not one to always believe in God or a higher power but it’s almost as it your previous life (for the want of a phrase) prepared you with the skill set, muscle memory and self discipline to take this journey. Remember you never really start from scratch, you know what exercises, foods and mental approach works best for you. If i know anything from your videos, it’s that you are in good hands :)

Wait a minute. Did the doctors say about about as to why your big intestines twisted? Never heard of such a thing and it would be incredibly beneficial, especially for you, to know why this happened. Below info found online. Intense gut mobility: The use of laxatives, adhering to a diet high in fiber, and disorders of the intestines can lead to the development of a twisted bowel. Having the intestines work extra hard can lead to them wind up. Over eating: Eating excessive amounts of food can overwhelm the intestines, making them sag, loop, or distend downward, causing the intestines to twist. Intestinal malrotation: Due to an existing problem of the bowel that hasn’t shaped properly or doesn’t align accurately with the abdomen. These conditions are often recognized early in life and put those affected at risk. Abdominal adhesions: Adhesions occur due to improperly placed scar tissue between the sections of the bowel. These bands can pull the intestine, introducing kinks and looks that eventually lead to a twisted bowel. Diverticulosis: Protrusions of the intestinal lining that appear as small sacs. Having an overabundance of these protrusions of intestinal lining might cause the intestine to twist in on itself, leading to significant obstruction. Diverticula might be congenital (occurring at birth) or develop over time as you get older. Other causes: Although rare, other causes include certain cancers, pregnancy, old age, changes in dietary habits, or problems with post-surgical recovery www.belmarrahealth.com/twisted-bowel-volvulus-adults/

That's a lot of large intestine ! I had about 15cm (dunno in inches lol) of my sigmoid removed because of endo (it's the part of the large intestine right before the rectum....) and i have zero side effects. I digest so much better than before even... Because before my intestines were so inflamed and food was stuck in the area of the endo lesion that had literally gotten inside the intestine, and as it's not intestine, it stopped the whole thing from moving as it should. One year later I'm 30 and I'm healthier than I've ever been when i was a teen or in my 20s. Crazy. I thought living in pain was normal and going once a week at most to the bathroom was just a regular thing a lot of ppl had too lol. Thanks for listening to my body finally i found out my chronic illness. And now I'm able to workout. Building a strong core has been a game changer in my recovery post surgery and management plan of my endo. This and a strict diet of foods i can digest, and god i reduced by 75 percent the days of pain. And it took one whole year post surgery. At first i was "meh okay surgery got rid of lesions and stuff but the pain will always remain..." Even though my surgeon had told my mother "she's gonna discover her life now..." He could have told us it would take time ! At 3 months post op i was defeated but i still continued with the diet and stuff the surgeons told me to try. The road to recovery is long and not at all linear. We know that but when faced with the harsh reality of doing the thing even tough you're scared the pain will never go away... Man it's a leap of faith and a test of willpower. But I won't go back now ! Us people with our intestines reduced or chopped off, we're a kind of people not scared of much ! When you've handled rectal spasms during recovery and blood in your stool and liters of cold cold water in your bum during exams... Lol 😆 you can handle anything.

I am not sure what caused your intestine to twist, but i guess it is the overtraining or going a bit extreme on ur exercise. Hope you recover fast and get back to normal asap.

Actually, according to the doctors there is no particular reason why this happened to me. One of the scary parts is it can happen to anyone, anytime, for no particular reason. There is no food I could have eaten, exercise I could have performed or medication I could have taken to prevent this from happening. But one thing that I have learned that can help anyone going through any kind of recovery is that taking care of yourself, being health, and in shape before an injury occurs will help you recover much much quicker. It's important for everyone to take care of themselves for many reasons - one being recovering from unexpected health issues makes recovery faster.

so did the Dr's give you a reason as to why this would happen to such a healthy woman??? It's always shocking to see something like this happen to a person that is in the top 1% of the overly healthy , physically fit people ... So sorry this happened to you! THe fact you are so healthy will really help your recovery move along smoothly and quick.... All the best... You still looked drop dead gorgeous in the hospital... xo
