@@kingcookieX Oscar has his faults, but at the end of the day he’s a good father and husband. And unlike Bobby, at least he has a home and a job and provides for his family
I love how Bobby is the one with the "looks" and "talent", meanwhile Oscar is the one that's married with a wife, house AND kids putting up his mother and her dog 👀
Right. Sugar Mama babied Bobby to the point that he became too lazy to do anything. Oscar definitely had a rough childhood but at least he got a family
Cause Bobby is smart enough to know his looks and talent will net him lots of women so he shouldn't be tied down. Having a wife and family isn't the flex everyone pretends it is.
I was surprised when I first found out Trudy’s real name is Gertrude Alicia-Ann, Penny’s is Penelope Marie, Bebe’s is Benjamin Jackson, and Cece’s is Cecilia Nicole Cuz as a kid I really thought their nicknames were their names 😅. I think Charlette fits Suga Mama nicely.
So you mean to tell me that Trudy never learned the real name of her mother-in-law for over 15 years? (This being based on the fact that Penny is 14 in the show, and Idk how long she knew Oscar and his family before they got married)
@@Obi-Wan_Kenobi probably. I mean it's an established show's sequel. It already has fans and a foothold. It isn't as much of a risk as the first series
1:24 and that right there is why Sugar Mama deserves whatever shit Oscar throws at her. She's been treating him like shit his whole life and even now despite mooching off him and his family she still treats her deadbeat, manchild of a son with more love and respect.
@@Limptastical Oh my goodness, I remember George Lopez's horrible mother, at first I thought she was his mother-in-law, she's just horrible, even Mother Gothel was nicer.
@@joshwillis2879 but at least the show acknowledged that she was awful. Even in a few episodes it did show she loves him. But was never like oh let's excuse her behavior. I feel like the whole show makes it a point to gaslight Oscar and always put him down.
@@joshwillis2879 The main difference though is that George was allowed to fight back against his money. For everything she gave him, he could give back in equal amounts to mock her and several episodes had him score victory against her by forcing her to admit she loves him. Meanwhile Oscar is not allowed to score any kind of win against Suga Mama. He can't have even a little win or dig at her without receiving violent retribution and disapproval from his family. Hell at least George's wife is willing to stand against his mom and call her the horrible person she is, Trudy meanwhile won't do jack shit to defend her man even when he doesn't do anything bad to deserve it.
@@dantewilson182 you are right! That's what I can't stand about Trudy, she's perfectly fine letting Suga Mama physically abuse Oscar (which she herself also does). I think in the case George Lopez's mum, the audience was not supposed to like her, whereas in The Proud Family, we're supposed to like abusive Suga Mama? Absolutely not! I can't stand Suga Mama one bit.
That's tragic. The fans of the show is always giving Oscar such a hard time for acting the way he does when they completely ignore that this guy is clearly suffering from neglect. And even so he still acts better than his brother and his mom despite having such an issue.
@@pinglefaz So, it doesn't give her excuse to abuse her own kid. It also doesn't make sense for someone to not want to show their own child affection. Lack of affection is how you turn kids into monsters. Having too much affection is how you turn kids into Boby which are kids in adult bodies.
@@chelsybacon3490 alright I suppose that's understandable,it is true that she doesn't like him, really does suck that through out the entire franchise she never gave him an ounce of Gratitude or kindness
@@chelsybacon3490 that's what I can't stand about Suga Mama, she openly physically and emotionally abuses Oscar especially in front of his family. So much so that Oscar looked to his aunt Sista Spice as a mother figure only to found out that she was a con artist and he probably wondered whether Sista Spice ever really loved him all those years.
Hold up. The Proud family not only lives in a giant house but also in California?! How much money does Trudy make with her vet business cause they are RICH
lol that house is 3700sqft at best. If it winds up being bigger, it can't be any larger than 4300sqft because it's California and 3 bricks in a shoebox would cost $1m bucks lol
@@tiahnarodriguez3809 yea you think his business would have been shut down knowing that everyone know his snacks are bad plus he doing something his brother doesn't have anything but a car
Wow, I've never seen Sugar Mama snap at *Trudy* before! From what I've seen from other clips, *everybody* has a bad attitude one time or another to someone in this family in the episode, geez.
@@goldentriforce29 I've seen her crack a harmless joke towards Trudy once or twice in the Original Series and that episode where Suga Mama drove Trudy crazy because Suga Mama had her license revoked and Trudy had to be her chauffeur
Penny : mama lets get you to bed Trudy : you right Penny Bobby : baby bro got beat by our mama Suga Mama: come on Bobby let’s get ice cream Bobby : yay 😀 Oscer : yay suga mama: not you fish head ( push Oscer in the basement and lock him in )
@@erikar4825 “Crabs in a barrel” is a phrase for not wanting others to succeed. The crabs in the metaphorical barrel always pull down another crab that’s climbing to the top so they’ll stay down at the bottom with the rest.
Part of me wonders if the reason Suga Mama rejects Oscar so much is cause he reminds her of her brothers and Father, resulting in her taking out her anger of them out on him
Could be because Oscar being able to do what she wanted to do when she was younger may be her psychologically projecting her anger and resentment toward her family onto him
It’s so crazy. The durable solidness of some old folks like Suga mama. My grandpa was kinda in the same predicament, where he has so much other family that he doesn’t really talk about with me or his other grandkids nor his own kids. Once it’s brought up, he gets into a snappy type mood just like Suga Mama. Like, “ Grandpa what happened with your brother Paul in Calif- “ “ *I DONT WANNA TALK ABOUT HIM* “
I'll be the same way. I'm married, and luckily my husband isn't from the same country as me. I am estranging from my mother. Most of that side of the family will never meet my inlaws, and never meet my future children. My children will only have my husband's side of the family around them. I would prefer it that way.
@@UnderTheSameSun693 it’s so crazy… almost a year later, things have happened here in my life where I see WHY family distancing sometimes is normal. It’s sad really… but things happen due to consequences and they gotta happen for a reason☹️ your own inner-peace is important.
@@samfine5286Anyone noticed that 4 Disney related themes, 3 movies and 1 show had elderly characters be forced to deal with their Generational trauma. Miguel in Coco had to find out why Abuelita didn't want music in the house, on Encanto, Mirabel had to make her Abuela Alma face her past trauma, MeiMei in Turning Red had to make her mom face her past trauma, and now on this, Trudy and the family had to drag Sugar Mama to her home town and face her past trauma.
@@BioYuGi Unfortunately that's how some elderly Black women and other people are. They have a hard time letting go of the past and would rather bury it than face it head on. And you're right, if she's not going to swallow her pride, let it go and keep treating Oscar the way she does, then she doesn't need to be a part of his life.
"What was on your daddy's side, boy?" "My good looks. Ha ha!" "Yeah, it skipped you and went straight to my Bobby." Um, two things about that: 1. That would be impossible since Bobby is older and 2. Oscar looks exactly like Percy, and Suga Mama loved him very much. "You haven't been back to a school in 55 years!" So that means Bobby is about at least 73. Wow, talk about looking young for his age.
In the og series Bobby was born in 1963, so as of 2022 he’d be 59, but according to the reboot he was born in 1983, so as of 2022 he’d be 39. I know Oscar said Bobby hasn’t been to school for 55 years, but I think he was exaggerating cuz my sister does the same thing 😅.
As tragic as it is, 1:23 made me cackle. Years later I cant help but feel bad for Oscar with the way Suga Mama treats him, my guy just cant catch a break
Oscar's the butt monkey; the character that always takes abuse no matter who it's from. Even his own mother. Oscar has a career, house, a family and kids yet she treats him like garbage. Bobby is unemployed, is basically a leech to their family, no family, no kids, no career in anything yet she treats him like a prince due to her huge favoritism towards him. I remember the episode in the original where she told Oscar. "I may not like you, but I'll always love you." Like calling your son "slow"; basically retarded. My ass she loves him.
My grandma grew up half Mexican half indigenous in Oklahoma and people would spit at her bc she looked “Milano” with her dark curly hair and tan skin so I get why Suga Mama doesn’t wanna talk about it…
As a guy who fled his home state and changed his legal name, I'd understand more that she just _hates_ it. Lots of bad baggage, bad memories, bad people, just bad. Anywhere else worked better.
0:50 Imagine actin’ like this man isn’t 95% identical to his father. Literally aside from the hairstyle, different facial hair & a gap in Percy’s teeth, in terms of appearance Oscar is to Percy what Goku is to Bardock. He even has the man’s EGO
I'm gonna be honest; when Trudy said Suga Mama was from Oklahoma and then Sugar Mama said she didn't want to talk about it, it was thinking they were going in a very dark direction. But upon further viewing, they made a turnaround and we got Ol' Town Road in this episode.
@@exiledadrian103 Same, which is not unprecedented for a children's show to go that dark. Hey Arnold brought up the Fall of Saigon in their Christmas episode.
I love the proud family and especially the new season it talks about real life issues and on top of that I like this episode in particular because they talked about sugar mama what she went through in her childhood between her parent and her self this episode was definitely good and great
They don't give enough props to the animation department for this episode, I mean, it looks fluent but also nostalgic at the same time, especially when you compare the original series' snappy/limited animation to the traditional/snappy animation in the reboot in general (granted, some scenes in the reboot look puppet-rigged, but it still looks like they had hand drawn animation used for a hefty chunk of the reboot).
God, Trudy looks exactly how I look after spending 2-3 all-nighters trying to relocate my pictures that I lost (which I've been at for the last 39 months!)
I really appreciate on how they used hand-drawn animation in this episode. While the rigged animation looks good, It’s always the hand drawn style that looks a lot smoother.
Wait, what about Sister Spice? 0:37 I thought Trudy knows about Sister Spice. She's Sugar Mama's big sis. What happened to her? Is she like Sugar Mama's older half-sister or something? That might explain the slender frame she has compared to Sugar Mama. 0:43 That hurts, Oscar. You're not even going to mention your favorite maternal aunt that levitated Sugar Mama out of the house?
I still don't get why Sugar Mamma favors Bobby so much. I don't think it was ever explained. We was a freeloader leech with nothing better to do than sing, horribly, all day and make Oscar do things for him. The one time he seemingly did something nice for Oscar was that Basketball game, where they had to work as vendors. Even then, things didn't turn out great.
Paula Jai Parker he's part of her genealogy? It's so cool if appeared like Trudy's cousin and colleague to her sister Diane! And for the record Ray Ray return at season 2!
