I, Tonya Redband Trailer - Reaction & Review 

Margot Robbie looks incredible as Tonya and Allison Janney is perfect as her mother. They both could get Oscar nominates. The movie premiered in TIFF and other film festivals and more on the way before it’s December 8th release. It has 91% of positive reviews from RT. Tonya’s ex-husband and bodyguard hired someone to attack Nancy. There was a 1994 TV movie called Tonya & Nancy: The Inside Story on NBC.

Well, the so called Ice Princess couldn't do the triple axel jump throughout her career while Tonya Harding became the first american female skater to complete the triple axel successfully which earned her a Silver medal at the 1991 World. Championships. So the beautiful ice princess is just an average talented skater who used her beauty and exaggeration of the whole attacking incident to benefit her career.. And Kerrigan also have mistreated the 1994 Russian Olympic Gold medalist Oksana Baiul.. That's another situation of the Ice Princess' lack of sportsmanship..

And also she wasnt blaming it on the laces cus it was the laces before she even started skating her laces was already messed up that why she was almost disqualified

yours is best reaction to this trailer. Tonya had nothing to do with the attack on Nancy. Tonya's real life mom was awful, and she always wore that cringe coat and had that stupid bird with her too.

I like what you said about it not begin an excuse, however, you can see these factors pushing her, like her crap mother. If I remember right, there was a lot of physical abuse going on with the husband too. When this happened, I had a friend who skated till she was 12, when she was told that with her skill level, at her age, to give up, she'd never be good enough. Hours of practice before and after school, win win win in your ear every moment. And she was not shocked that one of these young women would do anything to win. I can't believe this doesn't happen more often.

I second the shock that it took so long for a movie of this incident to be made. And given the absurdity of this story I’m glad they’re playing it as a dark comedy

I saw I, Tonya at TIFF the day after it’s World Premiere and was lucky enough to have a couple cast members and the director there for a Q&A. It’s fantastic! It’s a riot, so much fun. It’s played a bunch of smaller film festivals the past two months after the TIFF premiere. Allison Janney as her mother was incredible and is absolutely the front runner to win the Beat Supporting Actress Oscar for this. She stole the show for me. Margot Robbie, Sebastian Stan, and the guy that plays the bodyguard are also really good. Robbie will quite possibly be nominated for Best Actress, the distributor is pushing the awards campaign HARD! The film is done in a fake documentary style. The camera is interviewing these people at some point after The Incident and it’s them recounting the story of what happened. I’m sure there’s exaggeration happening in this version of the story but Tonya has talked about the abuse before in interviews at the hand of both her mother and ex-husband (Sebastian Stan’s character). The story starts with Tonya at around the age of 4 when she first starts skating. Her mother is standing on the ice smoking a cigarette trying to convince the coach to take Tonya. It goes through Tonya as a young girl, as a teenager, meeting Jeff Gillooly, competing, being the first American woman to land a triple axel in competition, The Knee Incident, the Olympics after with the infamous lace moment and where Kerrigan goes on to win the silver medal, her conviction of hindering the investigation (she knew something was up but didn’t say anything, she didn’t have any hand in planning the attack it was her husband and bodyguard), and then ultimately what happens to her after the fact. In the film Tonya does break the fourth wall a couple of times and talks directly to the camera as the stories are being told of what happened. It works and it’s hilarious. The “I never did this” line is her talking about how the tabloids were making up crazy stories and things were getting so out of hand and they were saying she did things that she didn’t actually do. Nancy Kerrigan isn’t actually in the movie very much, a bit when Tonya was still competing before, the actual attack moment which is following the guy that did it rather than her, and there’s the infamous “whhhyyyyyy” news moment on a tv in the background. Other than that, it mostly focuses on Tonya, her upbringing, and how that led her to making some bad decisions. It is a black comedy, and does have scenes of violence, assault, sex, and a TON of foul acidic language but it all works and it is hugely entertaining. Definitely one of my favourites of the year, I will definitely be watching it again.

No suprise its taken this long for a movie IMO, I've always thought the idea would be extremely difficult given facts on the case are so slippery and many testimonials even today are still inaccurate, but given the take on "Wolf of Wall Street" the idea for this movie to take on a kind of "Goodfellas" style was the best approach

Tonya was the first USA woman to do a triple axle and the 2nd in the world to do one. Nancy never did one. Her later notoriety is what actually made the sport popular and into what it is today. Tons of people know who Tonya Harding is, nobody remembers Nancy Kerrigan. All figure skaters bow to Tonya's hometown when they pray for victory......lol

Dustin's right, it was her significant other....whaaaaaa a movie based on this and HER???! Anyway, you can't do that, Wendy because you're a nice good person, and yes, I think Tonya did interviews...so they probably used real clips from that.

This movie looks great, can’t wait to see it. It has an early Cohen Brothers vibe to it. I just hope they don’t twist it to make Tonya the hero or glorify what she did. I’m sure they won’t.

"And she did terrible"....he says at the beginning. Yeah, she did terrible for Tonya, but I don't know if I would call eighth best in the world, at the Olympics terrible. Maybe I am an underachiever according to the host man's accomplishments?

Ehhh I don't believe she did it. It's definitely the fault of her husband. People kept blaming & punishing her making her mental health really bad & spiral which is probably why she did bad

I think this isn't the first film about this. I remember at least one or two TV movies, one about the incident and one ahout Kerrigan's side. I think Robbie skews too old to play Harding at the Olympics, let alone how much see is actually in it if they include Harding's entire skating career. Also, I am skeptical when they add the quotes from reviewers calling it "The best film of the year.". Always a red flag to me. ☺
