Again this is just another day at my job. Not a crazy exciting exciting video however I do know somewhere, somehow will help someone out and that is what I am here for. Thanks for watching!!!
your a living legend Dex, thankyou so much for sharing your knowledge, l only found you on utube a fortnight ago but have learnt so much already from you l have had a zg larado (Australia right hand drive) for over 15 years and do all my own work, a hell of a lot has been a mystery but after bingeing your videos l am getting a better understanding, thankyou
Thanks for being a genuine human, I enjoyed the socket chisel short ended up here. I love these types of videos. I’m a younger man that loves to wrench so keep them coming
Our 98 Zj 4.0 has 410k miles on its original drive train.. My mom has had it since 2000 with 20k miles.. this includes the 42re... Maintenance is all ive done.. and a timing chain at 220k. Tranny change every 30k.. oil every 5-7k.. coolant change evrry now and then. It did blow a hose recently at 380k and overheat till it was steaming.. and shut itself off. (The pcm has an auto shut off) but 30k miles later still going. Just had to the CPS a 2nd time in its life. Put a mopar one in though.. the cheapo after market ones suck My 5.9 ZJ limited has 220k on it now. Im more of a FSJ fan though. My wagoneer and j10 are the ajeeps i mainly work on. I should probly put some love into my 5.9 ZJ though.. it needs a new headliner. New dash pad.. and the cat rattles now. Probly should wash the paint more often too i noticed its getting rough with me never washing it. Havent even cleaned the inside since i moved 2 years ago. Drivers seat track broke and needs welded. Ya for such a nice Jeep the 5.9 is i dont take care of it like i should. I think my least fav Jeeps are wranglers of any kind including cjs.. and i dont like Xjs either.. but its mainly because they too small inside
i have owned several Jeeps all have been grand cherokee 1999-2004 i wish i had a list of what all the jeep people call these jeebs i call them cherokees and grand cherokee and wrangler but when i leave that i am lost with all the abbreviations and this renix jeep you talk about never heard the word until started watching your channel
That 4.0 sounds good after you reassembled it and put it on the stand Bub 👍, I can't believe how much info you've managed to store in your brain on Jeeps 😅
I have a 92 wrangler 4.0l and a 2001 xj love watching your videos they help people without a whole lot of money fix these motors with used parts and shows they work just fine keep it up
I'd like to see your version of a budget trail rig from picking the jeep the year and why you picked it. To lift or no lift.. lockers or no lockers.. To finished product.
OK. I'm the one you did this build for, you answered many of my questions. Plan to do a in frame rebuild on my 91, with 160,000 I may just put it off a while longer, AMC was known to need stem seals so that will be my first attack, thanks for your video
1996 Classic Cherokee.Just quit running..The guy who had the jeep replaced crank sensor disturbtor cap coil said it just quit..Anyone think its main harness plug in behind washer box on fire wall..I have 93 XJ and replaced crank sensor 2 yrs ago..Anyone been down this road steer me..Love the videos..Makes me want to rebuild..😂😂
my 95 zj was so shitty it had almost 301k and 10k trail miles on its old crappy 4.0...... Great video glad someone out there is saving these wonderful beasts of a vehicle....first time finding you and u def got a new sub...
Dex, Thank you for sharing your "hobby" with Jeeps. I am an avid fan of your videos. I have a smaller fleet of 5 Jeeps, I noticed you typically stop at or around the 2004 model years. Mine are 2004 and younger. Is that intentional? I am appreciative of your real world approach to working on your rigs. Even though you have advanced to having your own MANS garage and turned it all into a business - it gives me more confidence to work on those next level projects. Again, thank you! Last thought, I have a 96 ZJ & 04 WJ Overland, how do you approach the frames on these Jeeps? I wonder how you would approach a Grand from the Cleveland, Ohio (rust belt/salt exposure) if you wanted to reinforce/repair a frame that might have some rust exposure. Thanks for all you do! Congrats and keep it coming! - Rich
That right there is the most beautiful parking lot I have ever seen. And that parking lot absolutely has a 42re in it for my 98 JGC which is dead in my driveway :(
yes. the 99& 2000 heads cracked easy casting # 0331. [ if im remember correctly ] weighed about 42lbs and the good heads weighed round 60 + I bought a new complete head from Clearwater heads 900 bucks brand new made to order 🤘🏁🇺🇸🏁🤘
@@Yakkinrivers I ordered the upgraded head with my engine. The recast one that fixes all the issues. Not the edelbrock one that's more than I paid for the engine lol
Great video! I need to put a short block in my 98 XJ got a taping noise driver side of the block area. Still on the fence on doing just a rebuilt or going with a stroker.
12:30 I could 3D print you custom polycarbonate or nylon timing chain guides to take up that slack if you everr wanted to give it a try. I agree I dont want the new timing chains from chyyna. Old steel is just better cause they didn't use computers to cheat with steel and that old chains probably fine.
Where to start? Really enjoy your videos. First video I saw of yours was i believe a short showing myltiple engine- vehicle configurations and I was intrigued by your ingenuity. I even left a comment that was so contradictory of what your video was even about, hoping to start some kind of controversy so as to build more comments. Nope. I think the last time I looked it may have had 14 comments. So this is a different approach. Love your content. As far as Jeep's go, the unibody design of the later model Wagoneers and Cherokees, for whatever reason, seem to work the best in stock form, than any of it's predecessors. Just my opinion there. Lock the diffs and total amazement will follow. Keep up the work. I believe you will grow rather rapidly from this point forward. Don't let it go to your head! You're doing a fine job. Get ready for the ride.
I hope you see this but I keep seeing similar contents and gives me such a confidence booster. I’m legit 2-3 months into this and I’ve heard soooo much postive minus a few haters. Got a few learning curves but definitely got my hopes where they should be at. Thanks so much.
@@dexjs You've got what it takes and you've definitely got the Jeeps! I'll be plugging your channel everywhere I go. Thanks for good clean content. The internet needs more of what you're putting out.
Love the xj content man, keep it all up for sometime time in the future it will help someone out anf also has made me wanna keep mine and keep building it just to beat on er lol!!! Goodtimes would love to come down hangout and cruz some trails with yall even just ridin along would be fun as im in Upper Pennisula of Michigan so but far away for my to haul or drive mine to ya lol.
Ran into something on my brother in laws jeep both engines supposedly 2001 but the motor mounts don’t line up and none of the bosses and mounting points for the alternator bracket are machined been pretty damn weird really but I done what a hillbilly with a machine shop and a grinder does lol it’s in there and running with all the accessories on it but fuckers knocking like crazy so I’m gonna pull it back out and actually machine the bosses on the block for the alternator block better
my wifes jeep is a 1999 grand cherokee ran hot really bad actually quit haven't taken it apart spinns over no water in oil but blows air out radiator when spinning over i think it might start but haven't tried to make it run. i have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee no nothing about the motor trans went out owner pulled it out motor still in jeep but hard to start without trans not sure which route to take has 170,000 miles but was very quiet no rattles before running hot would you try head first
You should do a controversial video on how install new 4.0 valve rockers, pusrods and lifters. Do you just torque them to spec or is there a procedure to set the valve lash? You'll get a bunch of comments in what's the correct way to do it probably haha.
Dam... This video is 3 months, too late! Or I was 3 months too early 😅? I bought that spray gasket maker for my head gasket but didn't use it cause I wasn't sure!? Seems ok w/o it so far but I haven't driven far yet!
Dex, why are the '00 & '01 the weakest XJ's engines? Besides the head casting issue? And don't say coilpack. Because I did the grand minivan coil swap. So I can run wires to my plugs. Thanks
We’ll never just stopped to think but 96-06 pistons crack and bust, especially when they get run hot. Soo with 00-01 known for running hot with crappy head it all makes sense now.
Just discovering your channel. Im a Cherokee nut too! Curious where your running stand came from. Did you buy this or was it DIY? Would love to have one of these even if i have to make it myself!
Hey dex is there a chance I could look to you for some advice on a 2000 xj I'd love to get in contact to learn a few things from you with all of your knowledge
Hey dex i got a 99wj 4.0 low miles runs great i done lot work on in recent past Iv got a 96 xj with knock and broke block Will the wj motor interchange ? Can i run distributor on the coilpack motor ? Thanks in advance
Please, try to improve on your camera shifting technique. I practically get motion sickness watching your videos. Also, when you are trying to convey some insight you've gained over many years/many 4.0Ls, please review your videos from the perspective of someone, who, unlike you doesn't know what you know. After watching several of your videos, it almost seems to me like you are explaining concepts/insight so rushed, and superficial you assume you are speaking to an audience who are just as much of an expert as you are. Or, it's as if you are merely reminding yourself, rather than your viewers, who (more than likely) need a slower, more detailed explanation, perhaps w/the hows/why, and even examples.
