I Took All Of These Photos In My Mind

Hey everyone. I've been meaning to share these pictures for nearly two years and decided today was the day. I'm happy to answer any questions in the comments.
They were all taken with my Sony A1 and a manual focus Contax Zeiss 28mm G lens.
In the video I mention that I'm hoping to publish a photobook later this year and although it will be expensive to publish I'm going to give a few copies away for free.
Anyway, how have you been?!

I was a salesperson in the photo industry for about twenty years, and towards the end I was so sick and tired of the endless comparisons and the nitpicky nonsense that some people used to justify a purchase of gear. I missed just talking photography, talking experiences, I missed the art of photography, and I couldn't care less about the science of it. I've since sort of found a middle ground in my photographic enthusiasm, but I like your videos, I like what you have to say, and I like your photography. Make whatever video you feel like making; I'm here for it.

Thank you TTtT 🙂 I know the feeling about being tired of the technical side - while still being slightly interested in it. It's just that you know there's no soul in the specs. Thanks for your kind comment, it really does encourage me to make more videos.

It's a joy for me to hear you again. It's seems that I walked beside you just looking at your amazing photos in a simple and beauty way. I hope to see more videos like this one. Thanks for sharing Chris. Rosaria P.S. I think that your next camera will inspire you more and more...

It's lovely to see you here again, I always enjoy your videos so much. Especially these quiet, simple, meandering ones! Please keep going! And congratulations on the X100vi, it looks to be an exceptional camera.

Just be yourself Christ is why we're all here I first saw your video called `Shooting Ilford Delta 3200 at weddings.' We can study something until the cows come home, but you just showed what it can do. For a long time before this (maybe 40 years or so) I've loved and `wanted to love' Delta 3200. Now you've shown me its worth loving. The rest is detail.

What a nice surprise! I stopped expecting to see a new video and just kept watching the previous ones. By the way: My favorite videos are 28-Hour American Train Journey, Reasons to love the Fujifilmx-t3 and Fujifilm x100F in Africa. It's so nice to see new, wonderful images and hear your calming voice. Thank you, Chris!

It's so nice to see your images and hear your voice again. You have my favourite photography channel. I love your seemingly simple videos that take us on a walk somewhere and tell us about it or meander on a different trail of thought. It's always soothing and sometimes gets me thinking more about my own image making. Exciting news about the book. Is it going to have a particular theme or simply a collection of your images? Either way, put me down for one 😊

Thank you Allysse, it's really nice to hear from you. It does mean a lot to hear that someone enjoys the meandering - it's an incentive to do it more. The book is going to be photos from St Ives. I printed a few copies just for people I knew quite a few years ago and I think I'd like to properly finish it and set it free 🙂

Hey Chris, congrats on the X100VI purchase, I have the X100V and it’s by far my favourite camera despite having cost a quarter of the price of others I own.

Thanks Toby, I'm really looking forward to it. With the IBIS, internal NDs and perhaps the tele converter it might be fantastic for video too. I'll report back :-)

Hi there! I’m very happy to see you’re back. Looking forward to seeing what you’ll create with your new camera! I’m currently trying very hard to resist the urge to order a X100VI, too. 😂 Don’t worry too much about production value or topic selection - I’m sure whatever you’ll find interesting will be a joy for us. 😊

Hello! It was a great surprise seeing your video pop up! 😊 I also ordered the X100VI based on your earlier videos, since they inspired me for the 23mm focal lenght. For videos, any random ideas work as long as they come with lovely images and calming music 😅

Chris, nice to hear from you again! I really appreciate the honesty and I can totally understand your decision. I'm not a professional as you, so I wouldn't call myself a photographer but someone who's passionate about it. That said, I've also haven't felt the need to take my camera with my all the time. I take less and less pictures now. Yet I'm fine with it. I sometimes think that Instagram was the only reason I took so many photos, motivated by likes and exposure. However, it's exhausting. Maybe I need to find another motivation to go back to it. I'm sure a new camera would help ;) Though perhaps it might be a new travel, a new experience, or, as you say, maybe I just need to use my eyes and write down about it. I really missed your videos. Thank you for sharing. Take care!

Thank you very much Jose. Life has seasons and we go through phases - it's natural I think. You're absolutely right about checking your motivation as you can't keep going if the motivation is wrong. Take your time and maybe you'll be inspired again soon :-)

I've sometimes thought more and more that maybe it's okay to just walk somewhere *without* my camera (I have zero desire to use my phone), so that kinda reminded me of that. Anyway, cool to see a video from you again, your photos are as eloquent and beautiful as ever! Personally I've always seen your channel as that used cameras as a kinda excuse to show photos more than a pure gear site. Maybe it's a bit shallow, but I think some of us feel a bit connection in using the same gear (just like maybe photos being from the same place you live could be). Also, just the way you talk about things is great, and for me this video is very much inline with your RU-vid catalog in that regard, always bubbling with infections joy for photography! So thanks for sharing this (and all the other ones)! (Wrote this comment on this hours after video dropped (and I just watched it), but forgot to post it, but I think it went something like this)

Thank you for this. When I don't mention a camera or lens in my titles it doesn't get seen too much, but that's not everything. You're right - in the past I've just used the kit as an excuse to share some pictures and I'm sure I'll do that again soon. Thanks again 🙂👍

Hi Chris, was missing your videos and am glad to see the latest. Was just wondering if you have tried any Voigtlander manual lenses for Fuji? Thanks.
@ChrisBoland
@ChrisBoland 6 месяцев назад
Thank you :-) No, I don't think I have tried that. I had one manual lens many years ago, but sold it and I can't recall its name. But I'm fairly sure it wasn't Voightlander. I'm not great at manual focus, but it's a good skill to have.
