The kid you rolled with is Zion. I trained with him a lot last year while I was living in Vegas. His wrestling and bjj are phenomenal. Great movement, great energy and he has a great attitude towards life. I also agree he has a bright future ahead of him. Much love Zion.
@@jackjack4412 I don’t remember. He was a kid so his belt was under the kids belting system which I don’t pay attention to so I don’t know 🤷♂️ I would say he felt like a high level blue to mid range purple belt with great wrestling and very slick scrambling ability.
He's not doing this in high level comp, he's a black belt, he's doing what is expected of any black belt under 40. He's got a very nice guillotine but it's not world class. Not remotely.
I tapped out 10 times with you just watching this video. At times while watching this video, i could feel my neck muscles getting tensed up as if I was the one wrestling you. Nice edits on video. Subscribed.
Definitely really enjoyed the way you explain everything and the smooth sneaky clean skills you have. Always have to watch out for those sleepers. Well done man! Very fun to watch.
i really enjoy your videos, narration and sense of humor. Really excellent teaching not just in the moves but in your thinking processes. Thank you ! 👍🏽👍🏽
One of my favorite things about this video was how that coach just glanced at your position and was able to give you solid advice that worked WHILE YOUR OPPONENT HEARD WHAT YOU WERE GOING TO DO. It amazes me how good he read that and how well you executed it.
Good stuff man I can tell the guy you were grappling with is no joke at all and I like the pressure your giving him make him work it's like a boxing sparring match u let the opponent get his shots in but when he gets comfortable you turn it on a bit more so they don't get to comfortable so they stay aware
Blue belt here. I've seen the number of guillotines i hit in my gym go up about 2x as much since I started watching your videos. They're my #2 submission now
guess despite all the fuss -your black belt is earned more than you thought. Also it is really interesting to see how beneficial it is to be very specialised on a specific submission.
This was a good video, sometimes sometimes I drop into open met at random gyms to see where I am in relation to maja my gym. Is very beneficial and it helps you to gauge your growth and overall level
Back control is a cinch when you can use your legs to trap and arm and go two on one with the choke. Lotta dudes don't have the leg length to get the triangle lock and super strong dudes can twist into you, then smash.
When working a front headlock against a stronger guy have you ever considered switching to a wrestling style front headlock? One hand on chin, shoulder of same hand pressed into spine, and with the other hand controlling the back of that hands same side elbow? Able to really pressure the head down when knees are off ground, and enables very strong cow catch/roll opposite way if they resist it when done this way. Make sure elbow of chin hand stays high to avoid an arm drag, as well as it creates a better lever for your shoulder to apply pressure downward. Would love to hear your input on what you think and especially would love to hear if you think this is non optimal.
0:59 - would it be considered "dirty" if he'd counter your t-ullotine choke with his right forearm/elbow frame into your throat? The modified "paper cutter"? The more you pull him in, the more it hurts you kinda thing?
I had a friend and student who moved out west and started studying at Extreme Couture. Judging from the lack of progress in his game, I don't think taking that place over would be much of a challenge. After a few months, he changed gyms and started making better gains.
Question for a mounted guillotine: Do you advise having your hips at same level as opponents neck for a better squeeze? Your guillotine choke vid helped me immensely and inspired me to restrict myself to do only front headlock attacks for now, but i still struggling with eith finishing the guillotine from mount. Thanks in advance! 😀
I typically like to vine my legs around theirs. You get more power if your hips are up there, but if they’re bigger, which is common for me, they will roll you into guard. If I don’t vine around their legs, I can’t stop them from rolling me.
This was fun to watch. I kinda have that drive in me too, one that makes me heel hook a child or wrist lock an opponent who is not totally defending all parts, sometimes even twice in a sparring like today. Great guillotine technique, man!
Talk about the scientific approach when it comes to wrestling You did an excellent job of exposing their weaknesses You out thought and out maneuvered them
This time you ran the gamut in that gym from the young phenom to the head guy who had to be at least a couple decades ahead in age. Still, all good rolls
Also really interesting to see someone else not big on back control- im a purple belt and around 65kg- I prefer front headlock and always thought it was "wrong" to feel this way. Good to see that there are options, do you transition from front head to turtle to get a cross grip ?
I have stubby legs, and can never really keep my hooks in. I've gotten better at it, but I'd rather bail on back control on my own terms than lose it on the opponents.
In my young day a guy came into the gym for some sparring. After he bloodied and bruised three hotshots he was asked to leave. It happens to the talented.
@@TylerSpangler I'm out of shape and a crappy brown belt, but I'd love to experience those guillotines. They seem so smooth. If you ever in the new Orleans swamp, let us know.
