Salut tout le monde, hallo iedereen, hello everyone!
I recently unplugged from Brussels life and took the night train to Berlin. A fun new experience for me! The last time I took the night train was TEN years ago in Ukraine - an experience hardly comparable to this one.
Come with me and experience how it is like - as a solo female traveller - to go by night train from Brussels to Berlin. And back again from Berlin to Brussels.
Do not forget to like the video and subscribe to the channel.
I would also love to hear your experience by taking the night train. Leave a comment below!

Thanks for taking us with you, hope you enjoyed Berlin! I was in Germany for two weeks to get started on my new job and by the end I was so annoyed from all that mostly male overenergised football atmosphere that I couldn’t get back to Belgium fast enough. So I can totally understand. I‘m gonna keep traveling by night train in mind for a weekend trip to the city. Not sure if I‘d be too exhausted though haha

Hope your job start went well! ☀️🤞 Football fans are the worst honestly 😣 you should definitely travel by night train, it’s quite peaceful. I think planning is key! Maybe see if night train is necessary for all the trip or some of it. The way back from Berlin was really nice though! You can also upgrade to a better compartment for more comfort.

I travelled by night train with my mom and younger sister from Rzeszów, Poland to Kyiv, Ukraine in 1998 :D. The journey lasted 22 hours, including 2-3 hours of changing train chassis (because the gauge is wider in post-Soviet countries). We slept in 3-bed compartment, with some other Ukrainian lady. We also went back the same way, though I don't remember the way back.

It sounds like a beautiful memory from a very different time than we are living in now! ❤️☀️ I took the night train in Ukraine once, a very different experience than this one to Berlin and back. I will never forget it, people were so kind! ❤️

Interesting video! My opinion is that flying is too cheap and should be more expensive than taking the train. Unfortunately it is the other way around... not sure either if I'd be prepared to share a compartment with 3 other strangers (snoring!). Great that female-only compartments are offered! Do you know if there is any hope on a CO2 tax for flying? I understand the implications but it's incredible that 2024 planes can fly without even paying tax in their fuel. Something needs to be done to restore the balance here.

The sharing with others was scary for me at first too, but honestly - it was not that bad. They were super nice ❤️ I am unsure about the CO2 tax for flying, I think that is still up to countries individually to do. But I agree - planes are too cheap and workers are put under great pressure also to work under horrible conditions and with low pay. It’s not fair competition, also not to compete with trains.

6:28 Prague?! I heard that the terminal is Vienna. Isn't it?

I just googled it - it seems to be another company that drives night trains from Brussels to Vienna! 😃That is ÖBB. The one I travelled with was European Sleeper.

I have travelled to Berlin by train in the daytime before. Left from my local station in Flanders at around 6 in the morning and arrived in Berlin Hbf at 13h. So the journey took me around 7 hours with 3 transfers. Idem for the way back home. If you book early the round trip only costs 100 EUR which I think is a good deal... Book via Deutsche Bahn though instead of the Belgian Rail provider. That will save a bit of money. I enjoyed watching your video. Sorry you had to endure guys acting like pigs. They are annoying when drunk and with their football buddies 😨

@@Reislustige That is really helpful information, thank you! ☀️ makes me more convinced that it’s better to travel to Berlin by day and take the night train back to Brussels instead!

how long it takes? can you have any dinner, when did you travel, what is the average price for one way , how long did you stay and where
@JustBrusselsThings

I left around 19:22h and arrived 6:15h, so about 11 hours. They do have a menu card as shown in the video but I brought my own dinner. I left Friday evening and arrived in Berlin Saturday morning, and I went back Tuesday evening and arrived in Brussels Wednesday morning. It was around €250 for a return trip! ☀️

@@JustBrusselsThings honestly 250 sounds bad for a train journey but considering you're given a bed and are not wasting a day just travelling it's honestly pretty good (this is coming from someone living in england where travelling from south to north london can cost 40 pounds so keep in mind my perspective on rail pricing is different haha)

I travel by train often. Also long distance. With people or alone. 99 percent of the time there are just good vibes. Traveling as much as I do, there have been incidents. The worst probably having to buddy up with a mentally unstable man heading for the childrens carriage and sitting with him for half an hour with his arm around my neck, until the train stopped at a station and the police took him away. I have discussed traveling alone with female friends. It's different for women. I am bigger, stronger and less attractive for sexual harrasment. At least at my age. I did experience unwanted sexual behavior once or twice when I was very young traveling alone. Compared to going mid town alone a saturday evening, trains feel completly safe. They also feel way safer than going on long rides alone on a motorbike having to spend the night in a sleeping bag at the roadside or similar, and I know women who do that. Train stations definitely have a worse feel to them than 30 or 40 years ago. There are less staff, and more unhappy people. But I am an open minded, talkative guy, able to talk myself out of allmost any situation. So I am good.

Can you speak German? And do you speak German in Belgium?
@JustBrusselsThings
@JustBrusselsThings 2 месяца назад
I was tought german in school as it is mandatory in Denmark (where I grew up). Unfortunately I don’t speak it anymore, but I understand a lot! ☀️ German is spoken in Belgium, but not widely. There is an official German speaking region in Belgium, so the German language is mostly centred around that region. However there are many Germans and Austrians in Brussels also, so it’s quite easy to meet German speakers there.
