Syndicate MMA was an AWESOME gym, but unfortunately I partially tore my MCL. ► Xmartial: www.xmartial.com/?ref=TYLERSP... CODE: TYLER10 ► Patreon: bit.ly/TylerPatreon ►IG: / spanglertyler
First off I just wanna apologize for the idiot jumping on your knee like that. We don’t teach that bullshit at syndicate and he’s never in class anyways. Thank you for the great round bro and this video was an awesome break down 🙌🏻👊🏻
@@JT-oc2dn Medically speaking. It looked like the takedown could’ve effected Tyler’s ACL the most. Which in most part, you can still continue to grapple w/o. Look into how Spencer Lee won a NATIONAL TITLE with NO ACLS. Nicky Ryan also torn his acl 3 times.
Dealing with an acl issue now, been grappling almost 20 years, it comes and goes, recently had two rolling guys crash into my knee. Noones fault I guess, sh1t happens. I can't recommend bullet proofing your knees with targeted exercises and stretching allot for longevity
Why would you call the guy an idiot all comes down to coaches as if he would have done it if someone had explained to him that you can’t do it and why, Jedi literally does a similar move at the start so clearly students are getting around the gym pulling these acts
I think it’s a bit like everything else that’s dangerous, he needs a deeper understanding of it to know how to do it properly and more importantly, when it’s ok and when it’s not ok to use it.
I have Just tore my knee with à biggener. The doctor say that i have to take rest for 4 weeks. I hope my knee Will recover and be normal. I think that the sparing with biggeners must be contrôled by the trainer
Dude I’m so sorry he went for that stupid take down on you in class! That’s one of the Muaythai/amateur MMA fighters and he’s never in our class to know and understand the rules and why the rules are in place otherwise that would’ve never happened. I wasn’t even aware it happened to watching this video. Thank you for coming in though and awesome breakdowns of the rolls! I’d love a roll with you next time but I’m glad you got a round in with my brother at the end. Thanks Tyler!
@@Nervii_Champion He doesn't mean from a technical point of view, that he's willingly going to hurt someone. He means from doing something stupid which results in a training partner getting injured.
If you know to do that move, you know how dangerous it is. Which is strange, makes you wonder why he'd go for a kani basami knowing that it can hurt you
As a person who trains at syndicate for a few years now, I don't know who that is. Unless he doesn't normally do night classes, or is on the pro-team, he might have been a visitor as well.
This is exactly why I'm terrified to do any takedowns or stand up with ppl I don't 100% trust with my safety & with my situation it's hard to do that unless they're super overtly nice to me. I'm glad you're ok ❤️
Did my first bjj tournament this past weekend. The stand up in the beginning of my matches was sketchy AF. I hear you about not trusting people with takedowns
Bruh why the HELL would you hit that, let alone so hard? Let alone on a visitor? I know you made a good point about this not defining him or the gym, but damn that dude needs to rethink how he rolls with people.
You’re way too nice about this man. You can’t let people get away with jumping kani basami in a training environment. As soon as he threw it on you you should have let him know how dangerous and uncool of him that was so he hopefully wouldn’t do it to anyone else in the future. Anyways good rolls bro. Hope your knee heals up soon👍🏻
@@narukami597 I know what they're about and I know what BJJ is about and this dude is a bbj coach. Sounds like you're insecure of yourself and lack control of your emotions.
I was in the gym that day and met Tyler ! He was so chill as well , it was nice talking to you . The first guy in green is not a regular at our gym either , I think he was also visiting !
Hahaha omg the editing and sounds are ON POINT 😂 the hanzo/genji “i need healing when your knee tears hahah. And then the legendary ufc clip right after. Just perfect.
L or not you’re a warrior bro and your heart was on full display fighting through that injury!!! I learn new things every time I watch and you’re commentary is absolute gold!!!!
I'm really glad you didn't break your ankle there, and kudos to you for not going at that guy harder. That is a really mook move pulling out a move like that on someone lighter. There is a good amount of unspoken etiquette that goes into grappling when weight class considerations are removed like in a BJJ session. That flagrantly violated a number of them.
I love this guy He is the most humble guy I’ve ever seen. He shows all his wins and he shows all his losses, so what I get out of this. He is a humble guy that could beat most people, but there’s one or two out there that beat him.
Sucks when an under skilled guy injures you unexpectedly! As a gym owner, this has happened to me a few times unfortunately. Earlier this year, I hosted a public open mat at my school and this huge 4 stripe white belt was there. He was nothing special, just big, smashing whomever he could and quitting half match from fatigue against anyone skilled. He asked me to roll, of course I said yes. Easily tapped him a few times and he asked me what's the best way to pass guard. So, taking into consideration his natural movement and size I proceeded to coach him on how to do a simple double under pass and what does he do right in the middle of me instructing him how? He reaps my knee after me allowing him to get both of my legs on top of his shoulders, putting all 300lbs of his body weight on the pass too. My knee was injured for 6 months.
I'd say your dignity is still well intact after taking a big injury and still going on to roll with a very, challenging opponent. Hope the recovery is not too bad.
So nice to see a black belt being so honest with their rolls. Like that arm bar fail. I feel like it takes the pressure off us lower belts somewhat. When I mess something up, sometimes i thinnk someone at my level should have done better, but it's to mess up sometimes, especially just rolling in the gym.
Thanks, Tyler, for providing this breakdown video. You are a real one for showing your successful AND not-so-successful rolls! LOL! I learn A LOT seeing and hearing your commentary on these rolls. Great to see you have no ego problems showing videos of yourself either way. Great reminder to myself that if an experienced black belt such as yourself go through this still, I should not be taking myself so seriously as a recreational purple belt and to just enjoy the process and the experience of learning.
Jeez ive always heard that takedown was super dangerous but I never understood why, unfortunately i got you see why because of you. I hope it recovers quickly.
“The gym was nice enough to let me come in for free, they tore my MCL with some stupid n00b stuff, but otherwise were really nice.” Tons of respect for you, having recovered from knee injuries in the past from ignorant people, my stance is nobody is nice enough to do that to me.
I wish the amount of energy Strickland puts into being mad about absolutely nothing he’d put into his actual training for title contention. What a stupid way to waste an IG story.
The editing would be a nightmare but I really wish I could see a breakdown of the full match with what the coach did that was so effective. Also is there a safe way to do what green shirt guy was trying?
Guy who threw scissor take down A** Hole. That pressure pass brining his leg up high testing his flexibility haha, was nice. Damn though that instructor was a savage!
Bruh, you know he 100% baited you with that armbar and was ready with that hitch hiker escape. Next time maybe try the mounted armbar first, or get your grip on his wrist/elbow secured so that he can't hitch-hike out. Anyway thanks for the rolling footage, I hope your knee heals up soon!
@@nizak Sorry to hear that. I've had multiple knee surgeries so I'm always cautious about my knees. Hope you can keep building back that strength to regain that confidence. No small task!
4:36 I got to roll with him and his brother, last year when I was there. His brother heel hooked almost at will. He almost caught me with an armbar, but I was able to escape. He was able to control me really well.
As a blue belt even as a white belt, I knew that a sweep like that was very dangerous. I've used it once against a brown belt but I made sure the sweep was clean and if I have to put effort into it, I'll simply ditch it and transition into something else that won't hurt my classmate.
