Bruce Lee is is the world's most famous martial artist. Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan were a few of the pioneers of the modern martial arts movies. Bruce's top moments include Enter the Dragon, Fist of Fury, and Game of Death. On screen and off screen, he's known for his insane speed and power. So this week I trained Bruce Lee's two finger push up and one inch punch. Then at the end of the week, I tried to break a board with the one inch punch. It was insanely painful. Definitely don't try this at home!

We used to transition from finger press-ups to then do thumb press-ups. The hands have to be in front of the body to do them and at my best I could only do 3. The one inch punch is achieved by pointing the hand down to start and snapping the lower knuckles into the punch, as the knees suddenly give and you snap down and twist dramatically as the shoulder also drops into the punch. Done together there is a big wave resulting in a kinetic snap forward with the whole body.

Bruce Lee's training was a life long obsession and he had what I call "super dense muscle". I have known a few with the same physique as him in my life and it takes a lot longer than 7 days to get muscles like steel cable. If you're still interested, increase all vitamin and iron intake and build up to his training over 6 months. Then you might be able to one-inch punch clean holes in plywood. After a year, maybe you can do three plywood.
@johndough8115
@johndough8115 2 года назад
One does not need to have insane muscle strength, to have lethal levels of Inch-Impact potentials. At a very thin 6ft tall, 150lbs, I was Knocking out fighters with ease, from my lead hand. Less than 6" of travel, and I never used more than 15 to 20%, of the power that I was capable of delivering. The power mainly comes from developing far more "Quick Twitch" muscle fibers.. and then training them to react precisely, within millisecond time-units. Lee was said to weigh something like 135 lbs. Yet he was able to deliver a strike from a few inches, that caused one of his demo-guys to have to call in sick to work the next day... due to unbearable pains in his chest. If one only build up strong muscles.. then you develop a body builder type of body... that is not that flexible, and is very "Slow" in its acceleration. Instead, you want something that is far closer to a Gymnast's, or Climbers, body. Strong, flexible, agile, and quick. Lee actually mentions that he had gotten to a point in his training, where he realized that his bulky heavy muscle mass was slowing him down. At that point, he changed his routine, and lost a bunch of the bulk, and regained the much quicker acceleration, in his movements. Instead, he focused on useful strength, rather than "Showy" bulk.
@Joshuatree7746
@Joshuatree7746 Год назад
@@johndough8115 I disagree. The power didn't come from his muscle. It came from the ground. Trust me. The energy generated from the ground is virtually limitless.
@gmork1090
@gmork1090 Год назад
@@Joshuatree7746 From the ground? You're using your hip, not some shonen anime energy transference technique.
@ALtheelectrician
@ALtheelectrician 8 месяцев назад
@@gmork1090truth is all that is right. I favor a balanced approach. Yes you lose speed with bulk but a bulky guy once carried Bruce Lee off set and he was powerless to break loose. Speed wouldn't save him there. Brute power generally makes up a ton for lack of skill. Then once you have power focus on maxing our reps quickly and explosively. This develops speed. Mechanics such as hip movement increases leverage from the ground which I think that's what the guy was talking about. It's no magic earth bending chi stuff. It's just using the ground as leverage for your strikes and driving the hip to snap that strike into your target. This takes years to develop. Basically you turn yourself from Bruce Lee to Francis Ngannou.

I admire the training and the effort and confidence you had while making this video you put a lot into this but really that's not a 1" inch Punch it's more like 3" inches...but really I think you did a very good job. You can get more strength and power out of that Punch by making your wrist and forearm stronger and always when you punch put your HIP into it. And also when you Punch you hit with the 3 bottom knuckles pinky ring and middle knuckles. I got all that out of one of Bruce Lee's books.

First, I'm far away from a pro, but I did Wing Chun for some years. Let me mention some points. 1. You shoult strengthen your wrist and turn the fist up, so that the punch hit with the three knuckles of middle, ring and little finger. That would damage your hand less. Also the movement should start with the hand hanging down, while movement you make the fist and turn the fist up until the wrist locks. This has two improvements: the arm geths stiffer because more muscles are tensed. And that little additional movement gives an extra big impact. 2. While your punch you went forward, but your left shoulder moves backward. This is energy going into false direction. All your mass should move forward. 3. You legs and body should be tensed like a spring before the punch/movement and explode forward while. You can see the smal forward and up movement also in Bruce Lees videos. This saved energy goes right into the punch. Would be nice to see another video whrer you try to improve the technique.

It is tho....I checked a video by ginger ninja trickster on one inch punch and he showed a clip of Bruce doing it (cuz I couldn't find an original video because everyone has made this to be the One inch punch lol)....but the way it was done was by keeping the board at an inch distance....which they roughly set by curling the fingers such that the knuckles are around an inch away from the board....some even do it by making a fist...then extending the index finger at the knuckle joint.....(I am struggling to explain here but the video would help ofc)

Solid content though

There's not even anyone to teach JKD anymore really maybe a handful of people and there old as old can get. Bruce Lee was the only one that knew JKD because he invented JKD and then he passed away didn't really get to teach everything he knew about it even when most people didn't even understand half of what he taught.

Try the side stand, right leg facing the board the other act as support and then while you going to do the inch punch move your body sideway together as you punch

When it come to punching with any kind of power its more about foot work and hip rotation. Pushing off the back foot and rotating the hips.

I love that the channel is about going beyond but I'm kinda worried that he may injure his joints and ligaments with these intense 1 week challenges. Just look at his knuckle, I hope it's okay.

@@hafu I'm sorry but I just wanna make sure, I could've missed but who knows. do you ever clarify that people should NOT try this? especially the knuckle things since that can seriously injure joints

I damaged a joint ligament in my right hand during an aggressive street fight with repetitive punches with my right to the opponent's skull, it's been 2 years now and it hurts me when I close and open my hand and a bone is visible in place of the ligament which has moved away from its natural place, and I don't know how to go about trying to avoid cherurgy at all costs, but how?

@@S.U7637 Hey Surf up. Sorry to hear about it. I think you better go to some orthopedic surgeon. Who knows it may get complicated.
