Congrats on a great experience. My wife and I are late to riding (mid-50’s) and loving doing so on our Triumphs (Bobber for her, T120 for me), but really want to get a Tiger. Got our oldest daughter learning to ride who is equally challenged in the height department, and your example and lessons are perfect for my bride and our daughter. I’ve been watching the channel for about 2 years now…congrats on taking a chance, betting on yourself, and building a brand and business. You really should be proud of what you’ve accomplished both on a bike and in business.
What I love is your level of humility and determination. When I was still teaching the Total Control Basic Course here in SoCal I would always tell my students that there is no room in a helmet for pride, but all the room in the world for humility and willingness to learn. You demonstrate that big time!
Just awesome!! I love your “Never give up!” Attitude! You did it! You are an inspiration! Such impressive skills here! Would you agree that being in Martial Arts has helped you? I’d say Heck Yes!! Id love to see you train with a long time Motor Cop! I’m not sure who that would be, but I’m sure someone on your channel would know of someone. Thanks again for sharing your amazing journey with us!!! You Rock!!! ❤️❤️😊🔥👏🏻👍
WOW Carolin, you had a ‘barrell’ of fun on this trip. Thanks for showing us newbies that one can do anything if they are willing to learn. Cheers ✌️🏍️💜
Been watching your videos for a little less than a year after buying my adv. bike. This one is so far my favorite. (My previous favorite was the one about doing a gazillion u-turns). You're making killer progress and I'm inspired to get out on my bike and drill more of this stuff like you do so I can be a better rider. I'm excited to see your next videos.
Mega Props! Jocelin is a terrific coach - while I'm a road and track rider, I'd love to train ADV riding with her after seeing your experience! Props again to you two!
What a great video! It's great to see you willing to share your mishaps and your positive attitude. It gives rookies like me a little more courage to keep trying and keep practicing.
Hey Doodle, just thought I'd let you know how much of an inspiration you are with videos like these. Coming from someone who isn't fully confident in their riding skills, to see you feel the same way and then conquer those fears and improving your skills is amazing. You're taught me a lot with these videos about perseverance how just how much self confidence matters. Keep doing what you're doing
It's so wonderful to see amazing young women getting involved in motorcycling and being so enthusiastic about learning and improving their skills and supporting each other. Brilliant!
"Honda Africa Twin 1200" doesn't exist. This is Honda CRF1100 D4 Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES DCT. And Jocelin is on the BMW GS Trophy R1200GS Rallye - not 1250.
well done Doodle and Magpie, those are heavy big machines, great to see you overcoming your fears and doubts and pushing your boundaries out with regards to your riding, you can only get better from training and mistakes. Well done Ladies xoxox
Awesome video Doodle! I have to say, I think your editing skills just keep getting better. This was so well done and looked like a lot of fun. I hope you can get the mud stains out of your gear.
I am 6'1" and 200 lbs and I don't know that I would have the courage to do what you ladies did! Simply put ,the only size that matters is the size of your determination. I am completely in awe of what you are willing to take on ! You are an inspiration and I would LOVE to train with Jocelin. But what to do about that courage thing? 🙂 You go girls!!!
Awesome video Doodle! Throttle control is probably the hardest to perfect and you definitely improved from the beginning to end and you were able to ride your bike home!
I have been riding doe 40 years and have taken several MSF classes and done a bunch of parking lot refresher work. Your dedication to the craft is amazing! Best of luck in your future rides and road trips!
I would like to say thank you both for sharing amazing training session! I laugh and cheering both you on! Joshlyn is amazing !!! Thank you again!!! 👏👏👏
Doodle..... THIS WAS YOUR BEST VIDEO to date. It took me back to my intro to adventure days class. I will add that yours had more obstacles. You did great, especially on the Tiger 900. I have the 850 sport mainly because of the height, After watching you, I'm kind of jelly because I could have gotten the 900....LoL. As for picking the bikes up, you did awesome. It's no joke picking up a dropped bike, especially out in the the woods. In your defense, the BMW has side jugs, so technically it is easier to pick up as it is already in a 45 degree angle when leaned over. ;-), so you picking up your bike was actually harder because it sits over lower when leaned over. So props to you. Looks like you all had a great time and I know you learned quite a bit. Keep up the adventure, especially when you are out of your comfort zone.
That looked like so much fun!! I know how hard it is to pick a bike up, I've had to pick my road king up on my gravel drive, and I weigh 153,and 70 yrs young
Absolutely great job ladies, you a’ll are amazing. I love the fact that you never give up after dropping your bike and continue to push forward and practice and learn. 👏👏👏👏 Great job by Jocelin on coaching you guys.
It's very good to see how much all of you were enjoying the training and the camaraderie that's evident in the videos. Well done and stay safe and keep the videos coming.
Nice! There are two types of riders - strong ones, and smart ones! I just finished taking Bret Tkacs course over the weekend, such an awesome time and I learned that adv riding takes A LOT of skill, especially mental skill, to master. A lot of the techniques seem counterintuitive at first, but boy oh boy do they work!🤣I found that if I'm getting tired, it's because I'm trying to fight against something instead of leverage it to work for me. Would love to take my Livewire down to Jocelin's ranch to pick up some additional skills. Great vid!
Great class, but fundamentally flawed concept. People you don’t need to buy Gs1250 to tour cause Ewan Mcgregor did it. BMW has made fools of everyone convincing them that they need humongous heavy bikes with over loaded luggage to tour. Nonsense you should buy the leanest bike + equipment to do the job, not what you saw on TV CAUSE BMW TOLD YOU.
I think going to the gym and working out with strength training would be both beneficial to your overall health and also aid in being able to pick your bike up no matter what scenario you’re in. You can already do it but if you train some good technique on deadlifts, back squat, and weighted lunges it would help considerably. Working on grip strength and core would be even better. I’m sure you’ve heard this, but strength and technique is the ultimate answer.
Great video. Thank you for taking your time to put it together. A good day trip is my favorite. But it's all good. Pedal bikes/motor bikes/on road/off road. I just like a good ride. Shout out to MAD TV aka @MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV. It would be cool if you could do a collaboration with Dave. I'm in the USA, but you and MAD TV are the two moto channels I find most interesting.
As a beginning rider I jumped to bigger and heavier bikes as quick as I could. Now I'm going back to lighter bikes. To anyone learning and we ALL are learning, it's FAR cheaper and easier to learn how to do this stuff on a dual sport. If you're afraid of your bike its a good indication that you've skipped ahead too quickly. If you think you need a giant bike for adventure look at Itchy Boots and what a small bike can do. I am having more fun on a DR650 than I did on Vstrom 1000 and Tiger 1200. YMMV.
Again, you've set yourself up for marketing 101 and I don't see that there's one even one thing that you're leaving out so you're totally marketable. Again, I would bankroll you if I had a motorcycle company but I don't. I'm just a simple building electrical contractor with an eye for marketing. You are doing everything right. Please keep it up. Thanks
I admire the resolve, but why not just get a smaller and lighter bike? A friend of mine ( male, 60Kgs, 175cm ) got the Honda CRF300 Rally for that exact reason.
It's a big contrast watching this video straight after watching Nathan the Postman's video on the UK ACT track (off road trail). His mantra is that smaller bikes are much more aproachable and manageable on the trails, and that the big (GS's of the world) are too much for the average rider to have to contend with. Or more accurately, a lesser skilled rider can have a lot more fun on a smaller bike than what they can have on a larger bike. This video is the exact opposite - big bikes are the way to go and they're manageable and you can do it and just get on! Sounds like more ego than sense. That said, respect for your commitment and resilience and obviously your skills are improving. And I get you couldn't ride from one side of the US to the other on a 125cc Honda. I think there is a sweet spot (and that it's different between the UK and US - and AUS where I'm from), but I'm not sure the GS litre + bikes are very close to it. May be the Tiger 800 nails it. Good on you, keep riding. Cheers from Canberra Australia.
Hi Jocelin, I am Praveen from India. I am 165cms height, I have not driven any bike since 11 months and recently I took a test drive of Triumph street triple RS. I was not confident, continuously worried about I may drop the vehicle. The worst part is I always struggle taking a right turn. Do you have any suggestions for me to come out of this fear?
Hey, it's a much better off road bike that the liter bikes some lunatics put knobbies on. 😂 Great job, that looks like fun, and teaches a ton of skills useful for all riding. For other coaches, Backcountry Discovery Routes has a list of ADV trainers around the country, even the East Coast. That could prove useful if you have any interest in hitting one of their amazing trails. There's a New England and a Mid-Atlantic route, so you don't even have to go far.
Awesome good job and inspiring 👍. I do most of my adventure riding on a 2012 tiger 800 in north Georgia. Hope to see you on the FS Roads here. From duke to tiger 900 rally pro that's an awesome trajectory.
Who to train with next? Let’s see, how about Chris Birch, RawHyde Adventures, or Ride Adventures as options to consider here in the US for Adventure training. Or you could have fun doing some trials bike training as another option. Think about what your long term goals are, then focus on training for that.
I had excellent luck picking my bike up with the handle bars. Turn the bars away from you and take the bar closest to you and walk the bike up. Very simple and much less strain than backing up to the bike and picking with the legs. In fact, supper easy. I was doing a U-turn on a hill (banked road) while trying to watch traffic behind me. The bike over balanced, when I put my foot down the hill made the angle too steep, and I dropped my bike. Basically, I just stepped off. the bike landed on the end of the bars and a saddlebag... no damage, except my ego, lol I ride a rocket 3r
I love the Doodle Stuff. It’s on my phone it’s on my I Pad. It’s on my boat and my big screen TV. It follows me everywhere. 😂. Keep on Doodle stuffing us we love it. I do have one comment. I think learning to fall and ride on the edge should begin on dirt bikes. Low siding, high siding, jumping and learning to wheely with confidence can only be properly learned on the edge and over the edge on a non intimidating bike. 450 lb bikes are intimidating on the edges of control. The J Ranch structure limits the intimidation factor and limits the range of the challenge and that’s all good. 🏍️
One of the best things to practice even for experienced riders who've never done it, is Throttle/Traction. Thats what I call it and its something I picked up from race drivers. How they maintain grip and traction going through corners and its the same way riders stay up. They do the opposite of what people do when unsure. Human nature is to let OFF the throttle whenever were unsure. How many times have you seen someone fail when loading a bike in a truck using a ramp and they fall over before they get to the bed? What did they do wrong? Let off the gas. And these are guys who ride bikes! Starting off at slow speeds in a parking lot, focus on how giving it throttle pushes you through turns and turning. Practice giving it slow, steady throttle while turning instead of letting off the gas. Yes you will be going fater than if you let off but you will stay up and it will build your confidence. Find a back roads place to ride and have that same focus approaching curves. You'll quickly learn that applying throttle is actually your friend and no offense to our lovely Doodle here but every time we see her drop her bike its for not applying throttle.
Doodle... I wear a HiVi helmet and a HiVi Turtle 2 air bag jacket because I do a lot of miles. I do get ribbed by other motorcyclists (unkoowl 😉). I have seen some stats that show that HiVi helmets are substantially less likely to figure in accidents. I need to verify this ! I do a lot of miles on very busy roads and I am certain this gear gets me seen and avoids many situations where drivers make a careless hasty check and turn into the path of a bike. They spot me in their peripheral vision and even when just glancing, I know because I do the same when I see another rider in a HiVi helmet. I spot them a mile off and spot their all movements. What surprises me is that most RU-vidr motorcyclists don't want to be seen in this kind of gear and, as far as I am aware, don't even investigate whether it is effective or not. I would have thought, in the world of finding content, just ONE RU-vidr would have looked into the possible benefits of HiVi helmets and gear ???
Great course & video Doodle 😝👍 looks like so much fun & your instructor is fun & has a caring personality 👍 Respect from steve in Bundaberg Australia 🇭🇲🕺🍹
That was so awesome! Thank you ❤️ The 3 of you together is the best thing ever to me! I love your dedication and determination, Amandas wanderlust and Jocelins insane skill. My version of a super hero collaboration ❤️🏍️🥳
I have a bagger but I have driven the new H-D Pan American a couple of times. I love the thought of ADV riding but can't make the commitment to purchase one. I'm working on it though, you make it look like it's a lot of fun!!
I’m at 2:26 so I don’t know ifn Doodle McNoodle is gonna do it but, I want to c her go over those rocks - at 0:23. B/c I know that drill scares her to death. And b/c I know, she will CRUSH it. I have the confidence in her ability to do so. I just hope she does too.
Not sure about that one - risk of injury is high on these kinds of obstacles so she has a lot of guidelines for the gear and bike - but could be worth asking
@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle Yeah there's no way the Rebel could do some of those obstacles because of the ground clearance, but some of the other training could be useful.
Boy Joselyn is great isnt she? Such a good coach with super skill and lots of smiles and encouragement. And you did great too. Im starting riding again after 29 years off and your videos give me real hope I can do it again and do it well. Thank you and keep up the awesome work!
Hi Ryan for sharing real life experiences on motorcycle, it’s been a pleasure seeing progress every post. Idk if someone have tried sharing this but when u were lifting the bike try not seating much on, instead use the upper part of your hips at lower corner of the bike seat, that way you switch some of the weight to your legs instead of just using your arms. Besides that I’m pretty jealous to see how good rider you becoming, ride safe.
Uh oh. I am just about to get my license and first bike... and i already want to make a goal of getting to a point where i could take a class with Jocelin 😅 This is so inspiring!
Doodle on. I am a new fan and watching this vid of the Adventure venture. In Salinas, CA. I am from Gilroy originally so that is cool to see the NoCal area. Anyway, way to go. Love your grit.
Big bikes are comfy for eating up long km's but not necessary, can definitely get away with a good Enduro bike kitted out running the right sprocket combo for longer distances, and much lighter.
What pants/jacket does Doodle wear? I noticed Amanda has the same pants so I assume they're pretty decent. My daughter bought a bike and I'd like to buy her some
I like the training you did, but do you think you can elaborate on the some of the techniques used in this video? That being said, I really enjoyed the video and I’ve said this before, your story telling is really good. Keep up the good work!
It appears that leg strength is a good quality (training) is necessary to be able to confidently self rescue/lift the motorcycle. I carry a block and tackle set just in case required.
That was awesome you always make my day better is very refreshing, we all need to take this training should help improve confidence in or street riding that dance was funny !🤣
So much privilege of a woman getting to train with professional racers at a much lower cost because you're an "influencer" meanwhile guys who have been riding for a lot longer and and putting out better content either don't make it or take more than a decade to get to such a point. Yet we're told that women are held back in action sports and must do more for them in every way...
